  1. I grew up on the block where Lou Gehrig was born. For years there was no marker (and earlier one had been stolen) but now it is commemorated.
  2. You know, Steve, that's not a bad idea. In grad school, I had a number of friends who worked as guides for Big Onion tours-- highly popular walking tours of various neighborhoods in NYC. While the logistics of a NY baseball tour might be challenging it would prolly be a popular enough junket to gain the interest of enough peeps that it would be profitable. We should jump on that before Big Onion or someone else does.
  3. I know Irish has a few, including Ralph Kiner.
  4. Those early Bridegroom teams featured Oyster Burns, Candy LaChance and Brickyard Kennedy.
  5. Great photo-- greater story. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Bill Pulsipher Alex Ochoa
  7. I remember Piazza caught a bat to the head (drew blood too) while catching. Not sure if it caused a concussion, but it sure looked like it hurt and he had to be replaced immedately.
  8. Mike Schmidt (80 81 and 84 I think)
  9. Frank Robinson?
  10. Glavine Sele Maine Perez Williams
  11. Other: 2+0= 2

In the hilarious Gorman Thomas piece, he says the Brewers were robbed in the '82 series by Don Denkinger. Wasn't that the Cards in 1985?
  13. Green sits for Yom Kippur, Delgado for his kid's birth-- what a bunch of freeloading loafers. SC= astronomical.
  14. In another thread, SteveJ suggested that Notre Dame WR Jeff Szmrdija chose MLB over the NFL not because of money or "the health of the game" but because as a white guy he'd never get the "respect" of other WRs. Just piling on Steve here, but suggesting that this fellow also fled football for MLB due to racial concerns (and I'm not even sure if he's white/black/biracial/multiracial or).
  15. Teach him to avoid reverse racial discrimination!!
  16. Can this be true? If so, the Cubs are the most generous team in sports. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070121&content_id=1783591&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Among the items being given away on the 2007 promotions calendar are iPod nanos, Lou Piniella bobblehead dolls, Andre Dawson road jerseys, bears from the "Build-A-Bear Workshop," and Ryne Sandberg No. 23 player caps. ... The "Race to Wrigley" 5-K run will be held March 31.
  17. Living in California I see more than ten Mets games: six vs. the Giants, and whatever is on TBS or WGN (Braves and Cubs). Plus whatever FOX and ESPN have to offer-- I'd have to say I get like 30-40 games each season.
  18. I already have DirecTV, but much preferred when we had DISH network. I'll have tosee what it costs-- I do like NFL network, which comes free and re-broadcasts many Sunday games during the week (in addition to several Thursday exclusives).
  19. Foul Ball Freddie is pretty ghetto. His uniform is reminiscent of Mr. Met is his "saucy teen years"
  20. ESPN reporting that Endy just got a $1 million raise from the Mets
  21. Do you really think the 2007 Mets have a greater chance (35%!) of making the playoffs than the team that started 2006?
  22. Apparently Jeff Weaver is seeking 4 years, $40 million. This according to MLB.com's hotstove report
  23. Karim Garcia inks minorleague deal with Colorado. And Richard Hidalgo (who's only 31??) drawing interest from Houston, sez MLB.com.
  24. MLB.com reports the Bosox signing P Joel Piniero (1 year, $4.5 million) and are looking at him to close. Cross another one off the Mets list.
  25. Mark Loretta to Houston: 1 year, 2.5 million
