  1. The first of many good years, we hope!
  2. There's agood deal of rivalry in the Bay-- the Giants get all the headlines, the A's get all the titles. One billboard, which appeared by the Bay Bridge exit nearest the Giants stadium welcomed visitors with a reminder: "while they were building a ballpark, we were building a winner" Go A's
  3. Glad the Mets didn't sign that one...
  4. Top three Christmas movies: Miracle on 34th Street A Christmas Story Elf BTW, I gave it five lamps-- some lines are classic. This is destined to become our generation's "It's a Wonderful Life" for better or worse.

    Suppan

Suppan to Milwaukee for four years-- looks like Boras has us over hte proverbial barrel, given the lack of arms. With the FA field all but barren and likely trading partners (ChiSox) dwindling, we need to get this deal done.
  6. Texas lands ChiSox' Brandon McCarthy in 5- player deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2707317
  7. But I remember reading somewhere that baseball was dead??
  8. Jeff Conine-- a career .300 hitter against lefties --goes from Philadelphia to Cincinnati. Will platoon at 1B and spell Ryan Freel in the OF. At $2 million for 2007, the Reds found him worth two prospects.
  9. Upon arriving, he commented on how the Mets blue hats and pinstripes were classic, etc
  10. ]best day of 2006: 4/21 got married overall rating (out of 10, 10 being great) for 2006: 7 Better not let Mrs. KC see these answers.
  11. http://www.kcmets.com/Pictures/jay_satan.jpgDo we have a photo of Jason Anderson??
  12. Jose Vidro off the board as Washington sends him to Seattle for Chris Snelling and a prospect. Nats to play Felipe Lopez at second (!) keeping Christian Guzman's lethal bat in the lineup.
  13. Jason Marquis to the Cubs: 3 years, $28 million. The optimist: he won 14 games for a division rival! The pessimist: he lost 16 games for the WS champs! With an ERA over 6.00 and fewer than 100 K's, he is the epitome of what Bob Murphy used to call a "contact pitcher".
  14. Former Giants SS Jose Uribe... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2691022
  15. Steve: How do you account for the proliferation of fantasy leagues/rotisserie leagues/ and sim leagues? Doesn't that elevate Joe Six-Packs knowledge of out-of-towners and show that the "average"fan is just as interested in MLB today as was the strat-o-matic guru of the halcyon 1960s and 70s?
  16. gotta think we could've put together a better package than Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez for 17 game winner Freddy G.
  17. I guess that means we're stuck with black hats for a while.
  18. I'd prefer Loretta over Valentin as a starter--the same does not go for Belliard. Still wish we could've locked up Rich Aurilia.
  19. I was at his start in SF where he injured himself rounding third. I remember him throwing lots of pitches, even in that truncated outing, and getting frustrated by that. Wags gave upa tying homer to Bonds in the ninth that day; that frustrated me more.
  20. As did Mark Loretta.
  21. Lugo to BOSOX 4 years, 36 million
  22. Originally, Murph was listed as one of the 15 living Frick winners. They've now updated this to 14, dropping Murph.
  23. Bob Murphy lives! At least according to mlb.com, which lists him as such in thier latest update on the Frick finalists.
  24. Reds replace Rich Aurilia with Mark Loretta: 2 years, $6 million
  25. Robo gone to Cleveland
