  1. A's announcer Ray Fosse said Scutaro will always wear the green and gold because of today's heroics... a bit of hyperbole to be sure but his gritty style has endeared him to the Bay Area (but so did Eric Byrnes' and he was shipped to the desert)
  2. Previous "record" was held by Tommy John and Jerry Reuss..
  3. If putting Wagener in with a one run lead is "as close as you can come to a no-brainer" because he is not likely to implode, then the risk of substituting Endy for Green AT THE SAME TIME as Wagner enters is also a no-brainer: Wagner will not blow hte lead so Green's bat will not be needed.

How is Delgado "African"? And he's a resident (or native) of PR, but an American citizen.

African Americans currently comprise a bit under 12% of the general population in the US, so 1/15th of all MLB players would represent a significant down-grade.
  6. Zvon, good to see you again. Baseball, great to see you again! Seaver: hail!
  7. Interesting tidbit on Pud Galvin, who apparently injected monkey testosterone in a n effort to gain a competitive advantage: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5314753

  11. I say Reyes is the preferred target because while he can hurt you on the basepaths, Carlos would annihilate me in a brawl.
  12. The post-HR ritual with Delgado grates me. And if I were a pitcher Reyes would be a more inviting target than Carlos D. I was also unaware that the dance was pre-game-- which does make it more palatable.
  13. D-Wright. If I were an opposing picture, I'd plunk Jose the minute after I saw him dancing in the dugout or engaging in any of his other antics.

  15. Am I the only one to think the Mets will not win 90 games this year?? I see closer to .500 and a second (or third) place finish. This rotation does not impress me, I think Wright's second half slump may be more than that, and a team with Franco, Easley and Alou looks like a geriatric unit to me. And I second JD's worry about our catching situation. The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
  16. That's awful. Any one of a dozen CPFers could have created a better slogan. Let's see who can create the best.
  17. X-Met X-Man needs X-Rays: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2007/news/story?id=2777979
  18. I read it as "More" --as in Cliff stirs it up (again)
  19. As a Bay Area resident, I can handle Oakland.
  20. I just figured the Mets needed an extra catcer to keep all the Spring Training pitchers loose and active-- don't see him sticking beyond that.
  21. When the Jets left for NJ, they claimed Shea was a dump and that they needed a facility with modern amenities-- while it may not necessarily have been true at the time, conventional wisdom tells me that label stuck and can be traced to that period.
  22. I like Gweck's idea of assigning hte season by halves (or thirds, or quarters). Getting assigned an August series in March is just too unpredictable-- peeps forget, leave the pool, go on vacation, et cetera. For example, I was in the middle of Wisconsin for my KTE, had trouble finding an internte connection and then had to rely on Edgy to post it for me after I sent it to him via e-mail. Time consuming, frustrating, not fair to him, and more trouble than it was worth. But I do appreciate the effort that most posters put into the KTE, and I enjoy reading these.
  23. Elliott Maddox-- UM and NYM alum. Anyone else?
  24. I associate Darryl Strawberry with Dwight Gooden for obvious reasons.
