I think I voted once, awarding Mike Cameron and Carlos Beltran 5 points each after their violent, face breaking collision. I admire the dedication and attention to detail you all have demonstrated with this. Thank you BG for the labor of love
I once read a book that characterized umpires into three categories: 1. "Some pitches are balls, and some pitches are strikes and I call 'em as I see 'em." 2. "Some pitches are balls, and some pitches are strikes and I call them as they is." 3. "Some pitches are balls, and some pitches are strikes...but they ain't neither till I call them." Obnoxious bullies fall into the third category. This system replaces 1 and 3 with 2. That's Good.
I'm friends of a friend with Angels C Logan O'Hoppe, a Long Island kid and really great guy. Glad to see he's getting some recognition and I hope lots of votes.
I attended this game---the energy was palpable. Not Gooden-era, but approaching Harvey/Syndergaard I would say. A 2;13 minute game---it almost took me that long getting to/from the stadium what with the Open next door. I saw a post about next year's schedule, where the Mets have a rare off day in Philadelphia on a Friday owing to a football game next door and the terrible parking situation (I think they share a lot?) but it would be good for the schedule makers to consider sending the Mets on a West Coast trip when the Open is in town: traffic was absurd.
My pick for dark horse of the year. Derided by some as his having a proven track record and therefore ineligible for consideration. I guess we’re both wrong
I can get behind the ATHLETIC realignment scheme better than the others that have been proposed. But boy do I miss twilight doubleheaders, no DH, and 18 inning marathon games.
When i saw the other Rogers traded this morning I assumed PIT would flip him (and hoped, to us). Like BG, I initially thought this was a lot (too much) to give up but am liking it more. But it seems we gave up less to get the STL closer. And I thought the big BP need was a lefty and each of these acquistions is a righty so what do I know?
In the preseason prediction thread (I think), I expressed concern that Vientos was headed for an Alvarezian 24 season. I would've hoped I was wrong or at least that Alvarez rebounded to his 2023 numbers. Having them both be this unproductive was not on my mind.
[bLOCKQUOTE]Just saw Pete's second HR , wow , he crushed [/bLOCKQUOTE] The reaction of the pitcher and, especially, the catcher, is classic. I bet they'll play the clip of this homerun for a long time in Pete videos.
The ghost runner is deplorable. I am also not a huge fan of inter-league play. On the other hand, I love the steps MLB has taken to quicken the pace of play: pitch clocks and limits on mound visits are great (the MFY were the worst in having conferences after each batter, it seemed).
Decided to play hooky and take advantage of a gorgeous day at the stadium--unbelievably large crowd for a Wednesday matinee in April. And the energy was off the charts. Really glad I went and really, really glad they won!
Great game--thinking of playing hooky and going today. GKR mentioned that Mendoza sticking with Torrens was reminiscent of his doing so with Bader in a similar situation last year, and that he is most definitely a "player's manager."
