  1. =Centerfield post_id=51308 time=1606228207 user_id=65] 1 year, $15 million. Whatever we end up doing, Braves are going to be tough in 2021. Good pitching, good lineup. Morton would have been a nice option for the Mets.

Sandy advocated for him to return, saying he told him (paraphrasing), "Why let COVID policies end your career?" I dropped in just in time to hear this. I mean, come ON, man. "Whither black uniforms" is a headier someone-else-took-my-other-questions question than this... hell, "What kind of tree would you be" is, too.
  4. The hair is worth the league minimum, in and of itself. It's like he's Randy Johnson with a great perm. https://cdn.newsday.com/polopoly_fs/1.50071158.1605908829!/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_768/image.jpg> I put this on Twitter, and Sam liked it! Point is, instead of putting ourselves and strangers at greater risk, we ALL should be home liking my Tweets.

  6. LeMahieu IS 32. Not arguing against, per se. Just bears noting. Realmuto SEEMS like he's a Met if the Phils don't put together something concrete soon, and they seem farther away from getting their front office in order than we do, but... why does this still not feel likely to me?
  7. What's he, 27? I think I'd be more confortable with 5 years, but sure.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Do the Mets now consider someone like Kolten Wong? Or do they fill the position internally with McNeil or Gimenez? I wish they had a GM (I assume Sandy is acting in the role for now) and a decision on whether or not there will be a DH. Sign Springer. Trade Davis/Gimenez for Lindor. Trade a low-level prospect to Colorado and take the Arenado contract off their hands. 1. Lindor - SS 2. Springer - CF 3. Smith - 1B 4. Arenado - 3B 5. Conforto - RF 6. Alonso - DH 7. McNeil - 2B 8. Nimmo - LF 9. Who Cares - C This is... um... pretty, um... I'm sorry, but I can't stop drooling on my erection. So, Brodie-grumbling aside... this feels almost as good to hear as the Cohen buy being finalized. Talk about a positive test, amirite, folks?
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: What Sandy has said to date is: Bauer “would be a great personality in New York ... the kind of guy that fans would endorse. We're in the entertainment business.” Bauer's response was: “I heard Sandy's comments, and it was refreshing to hear him speak that way about me, ... In the past, a lot of the narrative surrounding me is I couldn't handle a big market, a big media market, I was a headcase, or whatever the case is, that's kind of been the narrative. So to hear that someone as high-ranking as Sandy feels the way he feels about that is refreshing and good to hear him speak like that. I'm certainly very appreciative of that." I don't translate either side of that to be evidence of a love-fest. Sandy/Stevie don't want to give the impression that they're going to be scared away by someone who is a little different, nor is it in Bauer's interest to act like he needs the perfect conditions to succeed and start shutting doors before this whole thing even starts. He would definitely appeal to a certain segment of New York/Mets fandom. I actually like what he does on the field a LOT-- he's bright as hell in terms of applying analytics to tweak his own performance, and the self-analysis he does after most starts (including the ones where he gets bombed) is intriguing. I have to admit, I've watched a few of his post-start breakdown videos. That said... he seems to be of the mindset that being smart-for-a-ballplayer leaves him with the right to be the nasty, condescending sort of smart to others online... even if you set aside the doofy Libertarian politics, he's got a nasty habit of whoops-ily sending his fanboy army to doxx/harass people who have the gall to disagree with him online. I think it's that sort of stuff that bothers me more than the particular-- if loathsome-- political slant. I'm torn. But, yeah, if I had my druthers-- and it seems we're increasingly able to dream of very specific druthers, regardless of cost-- I'd rather not mix my Doms and Petes and Stros with my Bauers, rooting interest-wise.

We wanna go the overqualified-ladyroute, there are still some options out there nearby, like https://theathletic.com/876076/2019/04/11/yankees-exec-jean-afterman-wants-to-see-a-team-hire-mlbs-first-female-gm-shed-just-rather-it-not-be-her/Jean Afterman.
  11. I think I trust Sandy to rebuild a team from scratch more than I trust BVW to half-heartedly implement Cohen/Sandy's thing
  12. Whether by mutual agreement or me-tual agreement... we've got a decision: BVW-- along with Minaya, Baird, and a couple of others-- are out.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If I owned the Mets and had billions of dollars, I'd build them a new stadium. I'd put it on the shore of the East River somewhere around Long Island City. And I'd call it Kiner-Murphy Stadium. Nice plan. Billions of dollars just might get you enough land to build the stadium.
  14. It may be time for J.D. Davis to shuffle on out of our offseason planning.
  15. one of the last times i went, we went with a friend who was not the strongest swimmer. they did the cannonball slide - the one where you drop out of the tube into a pool several feet below. he had to be pulled out by a lifeguard. he was ok, but did get to have "CFS" written on his arm. we reasoned then and there that it meant "Can't Fucking Swim" one day, i'll watch the HBOmax movie about it. SPOILER: That's exactly what it meant.
  16. This Marlins-Cubs game is the antithesis of the Yankees-Indians game. Brisk, well-played, great pitching and defense. Sixto Sanchez matching Darvish frame-for-frame. When balls are getting hit, they're getting hit hard... they're just getting played very well. I mean, Kyle F#cking Dancing Bear Schwarber just made a great play to nail a fast runner at second on a ball hit into the ivy.
  17. I can't see the Indians giving up the number of home runs in bunches that it'll take to keep the MFYs in their series.
  18. Somehow, someway, playing like THIS, Wilson Ramos produced positive value as a player on field, according to B-R AND Fangraphs. Guillorme/Gimenez/Cano/Rosario (with Mauricio eventually lurking in the wings) is exactly the sort of middle-infield depth you'd like heading into a season, no?
  19. Keep the ball down, maybe?
  20. Maybe we should start Diaz?
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: What's really luck is getting a base hit because of a bad hop, or having the ball deflected by a base, or if the fielder loses the ball in the sun or the lights. Or bad calls by umpires. Placement of a grounder or line drive or flyball-- most of which is out of the batter's direct control-- is tremendously luck-dependent.
  22. So... unlimited challenges, then?
  23. Ramos, he does do that
