Currently only 00, 7, 69, 84, 85, 99 available, but at least 1 number frees up when they drop from the 40 to add him and Pillar. It's likely Syndy to 60-day il will clear 1 spot. I got a small bet on 99 https://twitter.com/tai_walker/status/1363280440677851138/photo/1Apparently, he's going with the old drunken-figure-eight. Between Walker, Stroman (0), and Jake, there should be a whole lotta zeroes on the mound this year.
  2. This guy... he gets it, this guy.
  3. Three other things: 1) Not only do we have a rotation that's deep enough now to feature a Peterson/Lucchesi battle for the #5 slot, we've got a AAA pool that'll likely be something like Montgomery/Gsellman/Yamamoto/Reid-Foley/Eickhoff/Kilome/Szapucki/McWilliams/Oswalt. Depth-- meaningful depth, with nobody punching above-weight-- is important. 2) Piggybacking on FK's joke from the other thread, I like the idea of calling our guy "Formosa" 3) Formosa should probably individually-wrap any Spring Training tacos he gives out this offseason, given COVID concerns
  4. I got a problem with people saying that Bauer only pitched 73 innings last year. Only. It's only but that only is more than Walker pitched the last three years combined. And Walker wasn't ever better than Jake deGrom was. But last year, Bauer indisputably was. Maybe he'll be better than deGrom in 2021, too. That's likelier to happen than Walker besting Jake. So that's my problem. That and the money posts where some of youse let out a relieved breath of air at all the money Steve Cohen saved by Bauer not signing with the Mets even though Bauer's contract would've been pizza-pie money to Cohen and that ain't no hyperbole. Cohen and the Mets are gonna put a positive spin on the outcomes of all of their failed FA pursuits but nobody here knows whether or not Cohen is kicking himself for not upping his offers a little bit more. Maybe Cohen secretly thinks he misplayed his hands. (all emphasis mine) First: "indisputably" ("arguably"/"marginally" is probably closer to the nut of the thing) Second: Given that they're working on three or more long-term deals for their own players (including one pitcher whose on-paper profile is very similar to Bauer's), how COHEN feels about Bauer's salary probably isn't exactly the only consideration with regard to Bauer's salary. (Another consideration: the luxury-tax implications of multiple large signings, which would be more like pizza-pie-for-life money to Cohen, at least.) Third: Near as I can tell, the question most Bauer-doubters had/have regarding track record wasn't so much whether someone with his track record was GOOD; rather, it's whether it was prudent/advisable to give someone with his track record (nevermind someone with his track record, brand-building priorities, and yellow-flag-dotted wish list) the highest AAV in baseball for multiple years.

That said exhibiting it the way he does strikes me as a questionable mindset. Baseball has a way of devouring over-the-top bravado Exactly it. Don't cry "ME ME ME" out loud. Y'know, unless you're taking fun vacation or food 'Gram photos or whatnot.
  6. Taco time! Call me an http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30066early adopter. on a more serious note, i was hoping, given the options remaining on the table, that they would go after either walker or odorizzi. so i'm pretty cool with this move. Same. I do wonder what they saw in Odorizzi, since he seemed to be the one player this offseason they were never even rumored to be "in on."
  7. Good heavens, Mr. Yamamoto-- you're (darkly) BEAUTIFUL But since his dance card's cray-cray full... I'll throw my money behind the hyphenate Mr. Reid-Foley, who'll have a fun run of 5-6 starts during a particularly low ebb for this squad, injury-wise.
  8. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Intense is the perfect word. I think Marcus is a gun guy, btw. I've seen a couple shots of him on IG at shooting ranges. Was a little relieved to hear he doesn't hate Pillar. "High-strung" is another good word. Sometimes, the intensity is put to good purpose-- standing up to bullies, getting righteously righteous-- and sometimes, it's silly shit. But he does keep it interesting. Give him a league-average infield this season, and I think dude can surprise.
  9. Or DJ Dozier, even.
  10. Hits lefties better than Almora. Otherwise, if we are aiming to get guys who can go get it, I'd rather we go out and get guys who can STILL go get it, rather than guys we kindasorta recall could go get it back when. AND he taunted Jason Motte with "f#ggot" repeatedly a few years ago. Bestill my blue-and-orange heart.
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I don't think this is happening, but I do KNOW from researching this that Tracksuit has apparently https://twitter.com/martinonyc?s=09blocked me on Twitter. I need to see the incident NOW!!!! I wish I'd said something to merit the Heisman treatment... I may have said something with the tone of a vague eye roll a while back, but this-- sadly-- was out of nowhere.
  12. I always thought his stuff and weird delivery would add up to more. Hey, at least the Mariners have to watch him in Spring Training along with Kelenic.
  13. I don't think this is happening, but I do KNOW from researching this that Tracksuit has apparently blocked me on Twitter.
  14. Possible trade fuel for a Bryant deal? Like, Lee for Bryant-plus-cash, or Lee-plus-Davis-plus-arms for Bryant and Hendricks?
  15. Marisnick went to the Cubs for a year on a major-league deal. So, in a way, it's like HE was designated for Almora.
  16. I really, really still don't understand why we were part of this trade, but I feel glad that we were. Sandy should write a nice thank-you note.
  17. All joking aside... seems a pretty slick parlay. From our side. If I saw what the Red Sox had turned Benintendi and Betts into, and I were a Sox fan? Oh, well, that's a different corner of field. [ED: And they're sending the Royals CASH to cover half of Benintendi's, like, $6M deal.]
  18. Any time you can trade a pitcher whose name I can't pronounce and a player whose position and name I don't know for an outfielder whose name I've never heard before, it's obviously a win
  19. With all due respect to Des Moines... call me when Dubuque or Davenport confirm this codicil
  20. Oh, he'll play, like, 140 games for the A's
  21. To be fair, Lil' Donnie does do a LOT of some things
  22. As long as we keep him alive in our hearts, it's like he never died at all
  23. =seawolf17 post_id=55791 time=1612889128 user_id=91] Rules That Are Stupid, Ranked: 1) Three-batter minimum 1a) (outlawing defensive shifts would go here if they try it) 2) Extra Inning Secret Bonus Runner 3) Fucking up the minor leagues 4) Not allowing position players to pitch 5) The DH 6) Seven-inning doubleheaders
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Villar's got the big-league contract hanging over Peraza's head, as well as the copious big-league experience (162 games in 2019!). As with the plaster beneath the bathtub and the guy with the loyalty card at the open-air drug market, he gets the first crack. WAITWAITWAIT-- this was a BIG-LEAGUE deal? As with the non-emergency appointment at the dermatologist and the order of bacon from the diner cook who isn't the regular diner cook, this seems a little rash.
  25. 7-inning doubleheaders aren't terrible. Neither-- deep breath, then proceed-- is the DH, really. (Our current personnel make it a much, much easier transition for me, mentally.) These don't change the fundamental game. But, yeah, the second base thing. Hoo, boy. At least in fussball, they play a bunch of overtime before going to penalty kicks. Getting ON base and getting a guy in position to score is kind of the big challenge of, like, offensive baseball, right?
