  1. open up sortable stats in another window, and select only your team, and the timeframe you care about. be nice if it was more slickly integrated, but it's good enough. pain in the ass when you've gotta manage two teams though...
  2. i think my team is playing all of their games in citi field. the old citi field. only with higher outfield fences and way more fould territory. i have a great rotation and bullpen, but my god, my offense is abysmal. my team, with its 0.324 OBP and 0.426 SLG can barely out-produce daniel murphy.
  3. SHaM record: (76 games left) 43-33 SHaMVP: murphy Most wins: santana Most saves: parnell Most HRs: duda Highest BA: murphy

  9. nah, they should really float it. and hurry, too, before dubai gets in on the action.
  10. his lips are superimposed over the beard. it's just creepy as all get out. make it stop.
  11. some sort of large, sea-worthy platform. perhaps a modified cruse ship or a carrier. something that's massive and stable enough to damp out any waves, and which can also carry the requisite number of people. it would be a massive tourist attraction all by itself. a wonder of the world, if you will.
  12. float it. how awesome would that be?
  13. Ceetar wrote: I was extrapolating further, not not reading. What makes the ball go that fast and what would it's effect be? the pitcher's hand is actually made of antimatter (they missed it in the physical, apparently), covered by a thin, non-reactive layer of dead skin cells, and possibly vaseline. on this throw, however, as he released the ball, a slightly out of place stitch lightly scraped the skin cells off, and hte resulting matter-anti matter annihilation accelerated the ball to it's new, near-light-speed speed.

Later That's true, someone email Randall and have him do the bio-mechanical write up on what a pitcher's arm would have to look like to do that. It'd probably tear right off his body right? "We'll suppose it's a normal pitch, except in the instant the pitcher releases the ball, it magically accelerates to 0.9c"
  17. i voted havana and mexico city, but would like to nominate for consideration, europe.
  18. i don't buy the argument that requiring a member from each of the 32 teams degrades the level of the rosters. perhaps in practice, where some scrub reliever is selected to represent his schlubby team, but really, it doesn't have to. if, using fangraphs' WAR metric, you selected the top player at each position for each league, as well as the top starter and reliever, you would have 7 AL teams represented, and 8 NL teams. if you expanded your roster to include the top two players at each position (counting david ortiz as a 1b), you would have representatives from 12 AL teams (only seattle, and baltimore excluded) and 12 NL teams (colorado, san francisco, los angeles, and chicago excluded). add a 3rd starting pitcher, and you bring in seattle. and that only has 21 players per side. you bring in baltimore with the 3rd best catcher or centerfielder, or 6th best starting pitcher. you bring in colorado with the 3rd best centerfielder you bring in san francisco with the 6th best starting pitcher (grumble grumble matt cain grumble grumble) you bring in los angeles with either the 3rd best catcher, right fielder, centerfielder (tied with colorado), or the 8th best starting pitcher chicago, of course, gives you some trouble. their best player is only the 4th best shortstop. but even he is only 0.1 WAR behind hte #3 guy. and since, in reality, the all star rosters tend to average 35 men, if you set that as your number, you can have the top 3 players at each position, plus 9 pitchers (7 starters, 2 relievers), and you only have to bend the rules to fit in a cub who barely got edged.
  19. i hope to be back on the voting bandwagon after the break. i just too k a week off work to work aroundhte house, and have a few big things happening now the next week or so. stupid work getting in the way of fun internet things.

  23. in his defense, he didn't actually try to deceive the ump. he was still trying to pry himself out of the seats when the ump called the out. i don't really expect him to open up his glove and tell the up, 'no, actually i never caught it. go talk to the guy in the red shirt a few rows up. i think he has it' he just smiled and ran, undoubtedly happy the inning was over so that he didn't have to return the phantomball to the pitcher.
  24. oh, holy heck, mets. the cubs are supposed to play like shit, not us.
