  1. when minimm picked keith hernandez' nose
  2. i don't want the moral ambiguity of having to go through the arbitration process twice. i don't think it would be fair to let me assign arbitration dollars against myself (or to allow me not to assign arbitration dollars to myself on behalf of the new owner of the clockwork orange and blues). it also muddies the waters of how i would assign arbitration values to the rest of everybody, i should think.
  3. i like the new arbitration process. it seems more equitable. i'm looking forward to figuring out how to run my team this offseason. also, i think it might be good to acquiesce control of the 'bot's team as soon as reasonably possible. Certainly before the end of the arbitration period. important dates for next year, per the ottoneu website: Start of Arbitration - October 16, 2012 End of Arbitration - November 15, 2012 Keeper Deadline - January 31, 2013 Auction Draft Day - March 24, 2012 12:00 AM Start of Regular Season - TBD Trade Deadline - TBD End of Regular Season - TBD
  4. trout has the second highest OPS in the AL (naturally behind miggy), but also has the most stolen bases in the majors and plays great D. bbref has the defensive difference at over two wins. oh, he's got a higher OPS+, as his home park suppresses offense whereas miggy's boosts it. miggy's season is one for hte history books, sure, but trout's is one for the ages.
  5. y'know, it just occurred to me, that despite the injury, ra fielded his position rather well all season long, in addition of course to pitching himself right to the top of the cy young discussion.

  7. ripped abdomen dickey
  8. and yet, trout is out-hitting the most-feared hitter on his team. albert's slash line is 0.289 / 0.347 / 0.523 good for an 0.870 OPS and a 143 OPS+ trout's slash line is a whopping 0.325 / 0.398 / 0.564 good for a 0.963 OPS and a 170 OPS+
  9. Batting Average: 1. Cabrera (DET) .329 2. Trout (LAA) .325 be cool if trout caught him in batting average...
  10. hey, cool, they restored the original dimensions of the park, too!
  11. in a dystopian future, there will always be the mets. i suspect that in the future, groundskeeping becomes a much more expensive proposition, what with the wake effects coming off hte hypersonic electrified plasma-ball ripping it to sheds on each pitch
  12. "we" and "our" and "us" is the determinant for announcer bias? we've got a big problem here.
  13. well, then i suppose it all depends on how dimly you view the future. with the arms the mets are growing, i think the future may well be bright. provided the mets will have the ability to build the team through free agency as well. if there's no free agent money in the coffers, and doesn't look to be any in the years coming either, then no, they should not keep wright, and they should trade him for budding offensive talent, and the same for dickey. if there is money in the free agent coffers, then there is reason to hope for the future, and to consider the mets akin to the nats extending zimmerman, or the reds extending votto, or the rockies extending tulo.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: I think it's more than a little deceptive if you only count money awarded to free agents. Reyes may seem to be worth every penny he gets by that measure, but not necessarily when you see the productivity one can get out of a pre-arbitration player like Ruben Tejada for pennies on the dollar. Seawolf is arguing $40 million. or the yen on the dollar you can get with a mike trout. like i said, it has some arguments against it. but if you're using it to price a free agent, it's a decent way of looking at things. if you pay wright $20M per year, you expect him to give you 4 WAR per year (on average). you hope for more, obviously. for what it's worth, wright has more fWAR to this point in his career than either jeter or chipper.
  15. if you could guarantee 7.6 WAR per season for the duration of the contract, somebody probably would.
  16. metsguyinmichigan wrote: From Marchman: "All of this makes Wright, a great player still in his prime who projects to be worth about twice the $16 million he'll make next year." Wright is worth $32 million a year? That's crazy. based on the fancy schmancy WAR - to - dollars conversion, wright's 7.4 fWAR (that's WAR as fangraphs.com calculates 'em) equates to about $35M on the free market. it's a little complex how they derive that, and some might argue flawed, too, but basically, you take the total salary doled out to free agents, and divide it by the total WAR they produced, and you derive an average $/WAR expectancy - where for every, say, $4.5 million dollars you spend on a free agent, you would expect, on average, a return of 1 WAR.
  17. eh, the yankees already own the greatest collapse ever.
  18. do it today, david. do it for me.
  19. i'm another (belated) vote for open 'em up in april, not september.

  21. well, that oughtta get some people to rethink the whole 'round number' thingy.
  22. dark horse: medlen. will never happen, but damn if he's not eye-popping!
  23. mets home LD% = 21.9% mets road LD% = 22.7% mets home HR/FB% = 9.5% mets road HR/FB% = 10.5 oddly, for mets pitching, they give up a higher HR/FB% at home rather than away... 11% vs 9.8% mets pitchers must pitch up in the zone more at home - they have a 1.07 GB/FB% at home vs a 1.26 GB/FB% on the road. the batters are more consistent 1.41 GB/FB% home vs. 1.43% GB/FB% road.
  24. well, i'm not sure if these two stats have been mentioned as yet... on the road, mets pitchers allow a 0.309 babip to the tune of a 0.733 OPS, while mets hitters have gotten a 0.309 babip to the tune of a 0.730 ops. at home, mets pitchers allow a 0.284 babip to the tune of a 0.695 OPS, while mets hitters have gotten a 0.292 babip to the tune of a 0.674 OPS. relative to the road team, the mets do a better job of getting hits when they put the ball in play, they just don't put it in play for (much) power. citi seems to increase strike out rate for batters, but the effect is more pronounced on their opponents than on the mets. so that's not it. yes, they take more walks, but how do they get more hits with what looks like worse contact? is it that, at home, they swing easier, just content to serve the ball into the shallow outfield, whereas on the road they're more likely to swing for the fences? that's like the only thing htat makes sense. i don't see ld% or anything like that on bbref for home/road splits, so the answer may lie therein as well. its just really really odd.
