  2. hey larry, fuck you.
  3. does anybody still do that anymore? sorry, i tried to find the thread, but nothing comes up. so, with that. tomorrow, i'll be celebrating fathers day in the citi. surely the mets will win, right? not sure if keith hernandez will be joining us this time. i can only assume so...

  7. that's actually a good and reasonable point. if they give away the free food on the way in, they pay for it twice. once to, y'know, buy for it, and twice because you're possibly then buying less of other food. it requires no big cream cabal or corporate pressure, only functioning a pair of functioning brain cells occasionally bumping into each other.
  8. hey mets fans, go fuck yourselves. that's right. go right ahead and go fuck youselves. what are the options: 1. free ice cream as you walk in. but then you can't go to the clubhouse store or the mets museum until you gulp it down, and you've also gotta worry about ferrying your sticky-fingered clan to their seats through a crowd of other likewise stickily-fingered kids. 2. free ice cream coupon. lousy cheapass wilpons make me have to go out and get my own damned ice cream instead of handing it to me? all i would want on a hot summer night is some yummy ice cream to chase down a mets win. but no, i get a slip of paper that i'll probably lose in my car or on the subway anyways. 3. no free ice cream. 4. ice cream as you walk out, capping a nice summer day, and serving as dessert. what, are you going to bed right away? like, before you get to your car or on the subway? whose day is this seriously ruining, other than the guy who's a little too neat-freaky about his car, and feels compelled to down the whole thing before he sets foot in his precious bimmer? it always bums me when the ice cream cart closes after the 7th or so. late in the game is when i want my ice cream. to enjoy as the game wraps up or on the way home. who gets ice cream in the first inning, except to beat the line...?
  9. this is the most terrifying thread imaginable for minimm. keep up the good work!
  10. with shea, the center field fences opened up to ground level - you'd just run right in. perfect. with citi field, theplaying surface is elevated, at least it is relative to the street level on 126th. for the kid's races, you come in through the centerfield gate, go up a flight of stairs, go through a door or two, squeeze past the bullpen, and come onto the field just next to the mo's zone. that's no way to finish a 5k with a few thousand runners. or even a few hundred runners. stairs = no 5k course, as a general rule. after the kids race, you leave through the tunnels under the stands, going in next to the third base dugout, down a slight ramp, and then come out i think at the seaver gate, next to will call. (as an aside, i still am frustrated that this routing takes you out of hte ballpark after the event, which prevents you from shopping in the clubhouse store after the game. whose genius idea was this!?) it would be feasible, though less than ideal, to use this routing as the finish for a citi field 5k, the issue would be a narrow hallway, a sharp turn, and a short ramp, and another sharp turn (and then finish at the plate) in the last 100 yards or so of a 5k. crowding would be a problem there at the last turn, for sure. i think it could be manageable, if clearly suboptimal. barring that, a finish by the apple with post-run stuff on the field/ in the stadium would be more than adequate. prospect park? bullshit. anyone doing the 5k? i was ][ this close to signing up, but it looks like i might have some competing family things going on that weekend (grumble grumble)

  12. well, david wright is known for his exemplary kissing technique.
  13. is the yankees' apple the most uninspired, least imaginitive design possible? what ever happened to the top hat logo? or are they too busy being serious all the time? if i were a yankee fan, i'd be all about the top hat - screw the interlocking ny and the pinstripes and the nnob. the top hat is where its at. but then, if i were a yankee fan, i'd be an insufferable douche...
  14. well, yeah, the backwash off those engines is gonna toss those cars right along if they get too close, and the goons hanging onto the back of hte truck are well, yeah, there's a few things that'd be happining.... firstoff, the backwash off hte engines is going to hurl all manner of rock and pebble and dirt and dust backwards at an incredible velocity. the goons will be picking rocks out of their faces for decades to come. then, if hte car gets too close to the backwash, it's going to get tossed. the airflow over and under the wings is going to give them a little bit of extra resistance, and the plane will be squeezing that air down to generate the lift, and i imagine there will be some increased air flow as a result of this. not to mention the eddies and vortices that'll be generated. and those cop cars and the big trucks aren't terribly aerodynamic. theyre going to see a lot of extra lift. probably lose some ability to control the vehicle if they catch a good vortex. could conceivable flip 'em right over, or send 'em sideways. i think we need to get the mythbusters on it.
  15. it depends on passenger load and wind conditions and atmospherics and the flap settings, but if you said 180 mph, you wouldn't be off by all that much. 150-180 mph is probably a reasonable estimate for most jet-propelled passenger planes.
  16. finally saw this in full. very convincing retelling, and the historical inaccuracies don't get too much in the way (i'd likely feel different were i canadian, british, or kiwi) until the very end. they kinda had me going until the gun-toting iranians drove their car in partly in front of the engines of hte 747 trying to take off, only to have it finally lift into the air as they were about to shoot out the tires. this movie trope bothers me each and every time i see it. it's forgivable to an extent when it happens in toy story 3, i suppose, but less so here. there's no way those iranian police cars and certianly the big truck can catch let alone pass a 747 on a runway trying to take off. taxi, maybe. take off? puh-leeze! it's silly, but seriously, these kind of things just bother me, and kick me right out of hte movie. it's like when you're seeing a movie set in 1987 or '88, and there's this guy walking around in a pair of reebok pumps. it's like, hello, time traveller, welcome back from the freaking future. it just ruins the whole thing. i'm kidding. but the final scenes just had "artistic license" scribbled all over them. otherwise the film was really quite good. i gave it 4 stars. i think a stronger ending - hte original was surely tense, and it did a very good job of keeping my concerned about the success of the mission, but it relied too much of just. in. the. nick. of. time. the tickets are confirmed just as she checks the second time! he picked up the phone on the last ring just as the guy was hanging up! the gates are closed but they can still catch the plane! the revolutionaries just figured out who tehy were just after the gates closed and were locked and chained and welded shut, with an invisible forcefield to boot! the plane took off just as the guy had his finger on the trigger! the revolutionaries climb the tower but the plane is already in the air! seriously, i was waiting for the 747 to have to dodge a SAM, or dogfight an iranian jet. it was all too much. maybe without all that stuff, the movie would have ended dully, but i like to think otherwise.
  17. i like duda a lot, but, unless the metrics are wrong about him, his defense really is so bad that it's detracting from his entire offensive worth. baseballreference has him at -0.1 WAR, and fangraphs has him at -0.4 WAR. that is a terrible score.

  19. i'll take hte over. there's talent there. and if the issues are mechanical, or timing, then those are hte things you'd think can be adjusted and corrected. confidence may be a little more of a challenge. but it looks all the world like his problem is mechanical, not athletic.
  20. oh, lookie there. first place. why, hello, first place. my offense is freakin' on fire. what a delightful difference a year makes.
  21. i just downloaded iOOTP13 for my iphone. a steal at $4.95. i decided to run this current season and see what happens. it starts off on march 31, and marcum is on the dl - he still has about 4 weeks till he can come off, along with johan santana, out for hte year. so i've basically got he same starting point as the real mets. my rotation, however, is slightly different. 1. harvey 2. niese 3. gee 4. hefner 5. wheeler. yup. computer thought he was a better play than laffey, and who am i to argue. i've still got laffey in the pen as my long reliever. so the first game, ike has already mashed a homer, and harvey is cruising through 5, with a homer allowed and 7 k's. he's on first after a fielder's choice. colin cowgill hits a grounder, and harvey tries to take the extra base. slides into third and... injured! laffey comes in and ultimately gives up 4 in the 8th. it was a very metsian start to my season. harvey is out 6-8 weeks with a strained pcl. in the meantime, i've brought up montero. we'll see how that goes. i love that this is on the iphone. love love love. i don't really have time to sit in front of my home computer all that much, but i've always got my phone. and now, i know what i will always be doing with my phone.
  22. i'm not so sure i share the alternate reality view that the mets would have been better off not trading for santana. the would be better off TODAY having kept cargo and not gotten santana (assuming of course that all other things unfolded the exact same way), but cargo took forever to develop. i'm certain he would have been ridden out of town well before he finally broke out last year.. and even last year, his obp was barely above 0.300. resigning a player like that...? really?

  25. i don't much understand hte pujols hate, nor the jhamilton. all pujols did is be good. is it just to protect against the notion that he couldn't possibly be that good, thereby protecting the sanctity of those hwo we know to have been that good, that they may have fewer peers? and why would you want to see hamilton rended? i'm much prefer his to be a story of triumph, or at least of righting his own ship. too many people fall down already. why not have some stay up. jeter would be, in a sense, delicious. in another sense, it would be terrible. i don't find myself rooting for his destruction - only for the slap in the face to the mfy fans. and that makes me feel somewhat awful.
