  2. what was the schneider play in game 1? i must've missed it when i got up for beer, or unwiseley opted to purchase stadium nachos (they were stale. they're always stale. i know they're always stale. yet i bought them anyways. why!?)
  3. good point, and i'd basically just want to keep him around in the minors to work on his skills (not sure if he'd be displacing anybody tho) we can't really use him at second (yet) because we've got castillo, but such is the price we paid to get santana.
  4. i like his bat backing up our corner positions a hell of a lot better than the rest of our bats that currently back up our corner positions.
  5. if he somehow manages to stay a met, i'd really like to see gotay given either a third baseman's glove or a first baseman's glove, and see if we can't build ourselves some internal depth and/or an insurance policy of some measure.

  7. i'm a slacker. i need a much later deadline than that, and frequent reminders, please.
  8. i must admit that, as part of his supporting cast, i'd really appreciate it if, in some spy movie somwhere, uncle sam were not cast as the bad guy... it would also be nice if julia stiles worked in my office. but one thing at a time, i guess.
  9. so if we all vote down paper clips, will edgy be forced to come up with a new list? this could be fun, like that time we did that thing with the baseball players...
  10. heading into year four of the mofo fantasy baseball league (which i've won twice) i had to choose five keepers of the following: brandon webb john lackey travis hafner chone figgins albert pujols nick markakis curtis granderson brian mccann rushed for a decision, i selected webb, lackey, pujols, markakis, and granderson, and immediately cursed myself for leaving hafner unprotected. i had also, in the finals last season, absentmindedly dropped carlos guillen to try for a quick boost in stolen bases for the win. i didn't get the stolen bases i had hoped for, but won anyway, on a tiebreaker. in the first round of the draft, i was sweating bullets, hoping to correct both mistakes. happily, i was able to do exactly that. i forget when mccann was taken, but it was fairly later in the draft, i think, and figgins wasn't taken for a while - conditions i dont expect would've been duplicated for either granderson or markakis - so i think it turned out as well as possible. as for the rest of my team, i have no idea who i ended up with - i can't really check on these things from work anymore. but seven rounds in, i was pretty happy.
  11. my team sucks, i'm fairly certain. i have no saves, virtually no steals, and really lack the slugging to make up for it. i only hope my bevy of middle relievers helps drive down my whip and era...

  13. i've gotten my time down to about 15 minutes i think, depending on how deeply i decide to need to look for specific criteria... i like to give credit for batters who drive in a game-winning (or simply go-ahead) run, and sometimes divining that isn't straightforward. on a side note, i'm planning this year on giving some beer to the guy who actually scores the go ahead run as well. then i read the game recaps to see if there's something i've missed, like an outstanding defensive play, or a boneheaded baserunning blunder, or the like... but i've gotten much quicker at inputting the voluminous data into my overly cumbersome spreadsheet, so my cycle time is definitely trending downwards. i its only when i have to play catchup after a weekend or extended absence that it becomes truly time-consuming. or if i decide to try and tweak the formula midseason or the like...
  14. SteveJRogers wrote: Fair point, but who says you need anything Metly to be discussed? You could go on nonsensical rants on topics based on "talking points" you don't really believe yourself just to try and get yourself to believe said talking point.. is that actually better than discussing the merits of a trade which, while currently denied, can still make for an interesting conversation, as it brings out a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the team, and opens the door for speculation into, okay, so this trade doesn't seem like it could happen - what trade or signing can the mets make to improve the outfield depth, if they need to at all? what would it really take to get crisp, if pagan is not enough? and what could the mets really get for pagan if the mets decided to trade him now, while his value might be at its peak? would that really be as much a waste of time as somebody trying to convince us and himself that steroids are really a healthy thing that all ballplayers should be encouraged to try? i'd much rather them discuss the news of the day and follow the tangential paths down which it may lead them, than for them to just dust off some old 'controversial' talking point.
  15. SteveJRogers wrote: ="Frayed Knot"]]Sadly they weren't the only ones, down the dial on 1050 Don LaGreca needed some time to kill so he ran with it for a couple of segments So what? Once it's been brought out into the open they're going to discuss it for the same reasons we were. As long as they are reporting it as speculation (and not pretending that it's their scoop which IS something ESPN tends to do) they'd almost be wrong NOT to talk about it. Yeah, but there is a difference between a broad topic sports show and a Met focused message board. FWIW he brought it up around 5:40 or so, the rumor was shot down hours before and the local reporters were all telling the update guy that there was nothing to the speculation. Also a sports show is a controlled environment. This board isn't really in terms of that. I could throw up a thread saying I heard the Mets were going to trade Pelfrey to Atlanta to get Glavine back. Some back and forth goes on between posters, then confirmation that I got real bad information arrives an half hour later, and that ends the posting. Even if it means that posts continue to trickle in the thread, for all intent and purposes, once confirmation that there is no validity to the deal, topic over. A talk show host can control what goes on during the show. Something broke a few hours earlier and had since turned out to be not true, is still a topic of discussion for no real reason other than to kill some time. from a metly standpoint, what else is there to talk about on a day like today, really, without just rehashing the same hash that's been hashed about for the past few weeks already?
  16. HahnSolo wrote: M & MD are acting as though it is near official. And of course saying it's a bad trade for the Mets. i'm shocked that they could possibly be wrong about this! on both ends of it! i'd love the trade, myself, as a sox fan i know and i have been discussing it. he can't really think of good reasons for the sox to do it. but, sadly, from boston.com... ]Ignore that rumor started about Coco Crisp heading to the Mets for Angel Pagan. Theo Epstein, through media relations director John Blake, said that the Red Sox have not been talking to the Mets. That the story was a fabrication.

  22. i think its just silly, honestly. if it was in the old yankee stadium, and i were a sox fan, i'd just be giggling the whole time about the whole 0-3 playoff comeback thing, and that it happened right there. in a new yankee stadium... i'd just be giddy at the opportunity to point out the glaring lack of any inherent history to the place to all the yankee fans wetting themselves. i'd also revel in the opportunity to spit on the same ground that babe ruth never walked upon.
