  1. you have a high OBP guy with marginal power and average speed, and a low OBP guy with excellent speed and marginal power. which one is your leadoff hitter and why. why does tony larussa bat his pitcher 8th? what are the pros and cons of this strategy? you're on the road. it's the 9th inning and the score is tied. your starting pitcher got you through the 8th but is out of gas. do you bring in your closer or save him until you have a lead?
  2. y'know, if he wants to improve his english, what better place to learn than a forum populated with such erudite mets fans. and if he wants to learn a much more interesting vocabulary, introduce him to fman.

  15. could it be that kranepool is retrieving the ball from clemente, to deliver it to his clubhouse or first base coach?

  17. after how many bounces?
  18. and, of course, if we are to make the playoffs, lee then becomes much more valuable than pagan in a short series.
  19. according to fangraphs, thus far this season, cliff lee is the best pitcher in the majors, at 3.7 WAR. 1. cliff lee 3.7 2. francisco liriano 3.6 3. roy halladay 3.5 4. ubaldo jiminez 3.3 5. josh johnson 3.2 thus far this season, angel pagan is the fifth best centerfielder in the majors, at 2.5 WAR, while jenrry mejia sits at -0.1 WAR. for this season, and presuming that the performances we've seen thus far would continue (ie no improvement from mejia or regression from pagan) the trade would net us just over one win. maybe approaching a win and a half. i'm not sure it's worth it. if we could make this trade without giving up pagan, that would be a very helpful thing to do for this season. is it worth mejia and fartinez? um... i dunno...
  20. yeah, but they did it wrong. my dumb high fence was intended to cause balls to ricochet into the bleachers in left center - get the angle right, and a ball off hte wall becomes a home run (if hte ground rules were so written). i'm also apparently responsible for the mo's zone. and, like the mets, i appear to have left out bullpens from my original design, and would be similarly forced to shoehorn them in in a much hurried fashion, resulting in an unfavorable arrangement that would have to be torn up after only one year's use. but i don't have any wonky fencey protuberances in centerfield. i figured the depth there would be enough.
  21. so... when did the first designs of citi field come out... i like to think that pinball alley might've served to influence some of the design.
  22. i find it plain silly that the argument could be beltran vs. pagan. the only argument is beltran vs. francoeur, and in that regard, it's entirely likely that beltran will be more valuable to the team than frenchy is, even after you factor for defense and the steps carlos is sure to have lost. but why should we have to trade anybody? carlos is going to need time off, as is pagan. carlos is definitely going to be needing days off, and if he's your primary cf, on the days that he's resting, pagan takes over cf duties while frenchy steps into right, and we have the outfield we're currently playing. when carlos is playing, then angel is in right, and we're a better team. maybe not as good as if they were swapped, but i'll take it. (who has the better arm between beltran and pagan, anyways?). so frenchy will get his playing time, too, and will get enough of it. no need to trade anybody, really. and as well as he's playing, i'd be really surprised if angel pagan could be the centerpiece of a trade that would bring back a good starting pitcher. so why trade him away for less than that?
