  1. They Don't Got It kind of encapsulates the season.
  2. Lows? Start with the NL DH and go from there.
  3. I get the feeling that this is a warning to other GM's as much as it's penalty to Eppler. He was the sacrifice made to tell everybody, 'cut it out or else'. The Mets paid the remainder of his contract thru 2025 the day the investigation was announced, so he's not losing any money. He's essentially getting a year's paid vacation followed by a year of severance.
  4. Liked it, didn't LOVE it. It was surprisingly sad which I wasn't prepared for based on the trailer.
  5. Streamed it at home, and it was okay. Not really sure what the fuss was about. Ryan Gosling looked like he was having the time of his life, and it's always good to see Rhea Perlman. But I couldn't look at the color pink for a week.
  6. =metsmarathon post_id=146229 time=1706803499 user_id=83] the hoodie with sport coat is all i need to know
  7. We're little more than a week from pitchers and catchers and this team looks woefully inadequate, with some gaping holes. Sure, there are BODIES there, but not productive bodies. Baty at 3rd, Vientos/DJ Stewart as DH, Severino, Manaea, Houser in the rotation, Marte in RF, and a box of Munchkins in the bullpen do not inspire confidence.
  8. I must have missed each of the 47 games he played in. 'Cuz I got nothin'.
  9. These days it's a two-man booth as often as not. Ronnie and Keith get plenty of off-days, and Ronnie has his TBS commitments. Gary is the only constant.
  10. I've heard Murphy talk and as a broadcaster he's a great second baseman. Zeile is okay, but he has a little too much Fran Healy in his voice. Not crazy about Floyd. Haven't heard Brian McRae so I can't judge. Maybe I need to hold Hadji hostage so Keith stays put.
  11. The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.- ancient proverb.
  12. Yeah, this pitching staff will be 'killer' all right. But not in a good way. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/stdi-1tIUhM/hqdefault.jpg>
  13. Certainly helps but this is still a bad bullpen getting to Diaz.
  14. Didn't really work. Moving on.
  15. However much you wind up paying him, you'd probably pay more than that to replace his offense. And yes, you'll have to go longer than you want, which means some down years at the end of the deal. Ryan Howard and the Fielders were FAT. Pete Alonso is not fat. Big, but not fat. I'm betting he can keep himself in shape well into his 30's. Show him the money. This is certainly an adjustment year, but it should be the only one. To 2025 and beyond!!!!

  17. They keep describing these moves as 'low-risk, high reward' moves. The vast majority turn out to be 'low risk, no reward.' I'm guessing Stearns is going for 'low-risk, high quantity' this offseason.
  18. That rotation is scarier than a 7-11 burrito. If this is it (and in fairness it may not be) it is going to be a very long summer in Flushing.
  19. =nymr83 post_id=144464 time=1704657439 user_id=54] He'd fit in well in Baltimore, where he could draw only favorable comparisons to Ray Rice (who, by the way, the Ravens honored last week - talk about tone deaf.)
  20. Yeah, this one's been eating at me for a while, too. Money really isn't everything, as we've learned to our sorrow. The quick jump to 101 wins in 2022 followed by the drastic pivot at the trade deadline in 2023 left a lot of heads spinning. This offseason has been confusing, too- a willingness to pay $300 mill+ for Yamamoto, and yet lots of dumpster diving by Stearns. It's hard to know what the plan is here, at least short-term. I guess it's as Seo said, 'get by' in '24. But I'm not sure there's enough to get back to contention in '25. Waiting on the kids to develop may not exactly work by then. Jury is still out on pretty much everyone except Alvarez. Baty and Vientos have been underwhelming, Mauricio's hurt, Parada is a great prospect who's position-blocked, there's no sure-fire pitching prospect on the near horizon and it's too early to tell on the deadline pickups from last year. I know they'll never admit it, but it sure looks like this is a rebuilding year. Just not sure what they're rebuilding TO.

  22. That's a 75-win pitching rotation.
  23. =Fman99 post_id=144501 time=1704716974 user_id=86] Very few of my memories of him involve actual game play. His glove was not as strong in 2023 as it had been in years' past. I think that was what led to his DFA
  24. How does a team that spends so much money have so many holes?
  25. Only if it's one year and heavy on incentives. I'm reminded of that scene in Animal House where they're looking at slides of potential pledges; everyones moaning and groaning as the pictures come up, but somebody in back pipes up, "We need the dudes, man." Right now we need the dudes. They have a 3-man starting staff at present.
