  1. There are going to be a lot of ugly covers this year.
  2. Dubai? Bet there aren't a lot of day games with the roof open.
  3. Not a huge fan of the Rangers, but F the Astros.
  4. I didn't realize that only 2 other GM jobs were open; seemed like there should be more. But Stearns seems like a very 'hands-on' guy and I would think that any GM under him will have their options limited, the kind of situation Ng just bailed out from. Of course Cohenbucks can be a powerful lure, both in one's paycheck and roster flexibility.
  5. Yeah, I'm betting that 88.72% of those steals were stranded on second.
  6. Boy, the post-game press conferences would be solid gold, wouldn't they? You'd have to think Counsell is the front-runner just due to Stearns' familiarity with him. I'd thought when they hired Buck that they'd finally gotten the best manager available, but things didn't work out (a lot of which was out of his control). So I don't know what they do next. Glad it's not my call.
  7. The judge deciding Trump's fraud case has a Met history that goes waaaaaaaay back. Engoron first made headlines in 1964, when he and three friends won the grand prize in a "Banner Day" contest where the New York Mets, then just two years into their existence, invited fans to parade across the field carrying banners painted with creative messages about the team. In an early sign of Engoron's irreverence, the message was a take off on a popular political quote from the era: "Extremism In Defense Of The Mets Is No Vice." Engoron was just 15 at the time.
  8. Say what you want about Buck, he always had his players' backs. He had trouble managing the bullpen, but I don't think anybody could have properly managed this years cast of arsonists. Stearns will have a clean slate as I expect all the coaches will be shitcanned as well.
  9. Hmmmm. I guess Stearns wants his own people.
  10. I'd just as soon wait the year and let our prospects mature. Trading for Soto would be an 'all in for 2024' move, and they've discouraged that kind of talk. Can't just get Soto, they'd need to overhaul the rotation and bullpen too. In for a penny, in for a pound at that point. My gut tells me they won't get either Soto or Ohtani. Next year the kids will have another year under them- Alvarez, Mauricio, Baty, Vientos. By then, you have a better idea what you've got. The pitching after Senga/Quintana is the real worry. None of the guys they got back in the player dumps look to be of help to the rotation in 2024 or 2025, and what's already in the system is a crapshoot. Vasil and Tidwell might be good or they might be the next round of Peterson/Megill- not quite consistent enough. David Stearns, we turn our lonely eyes to you.
  11. So many people in Europe wear Yankee hats, it's really annoying. A kid in Prague was sitting on steps near our hotel, so I loudly proclaimed to my friend that Derek Jeter sucks. No reaction whatsoever. Later, we were in Budapest and I saw a woman with a Yankee hat, and said the same thing. She didn't react but her boyfiend said in a very New York accent, "Hey, whadda you, a Red Sox fan?" I have stopped doing that.
  12. Thought they couldn't hire him until the off-season?
  13. http://techgameworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Apple-Books-Any-author-will-be-able-to-publish-audiobooks.png>
  14. I was in the 'What's the point?' camp, but..... the Mets at this juncture are just trying to get through the season. Carrasco hasn't just been awful, he's been awful while giving them no length. If Thor can give them a few good starts, if Hefner can see something he's doing wrong and give him a tweak, why not? And yeah, maybe he's just a one-inning guy at max effort these days. But it'd be interesting to find out. As seen last night, this bullpen is toxic. Anything to limit its use and/or get a fresh arm with ML experience would be helpful, if only for my agita.
  15. Thor seems to have lost a ton of velocity on his fastball. Not everybody recovers from Tommy John. Picking him up now is pointless for a team going nowhere. That being said, I wouldn't mind signing him to a low-value, high-incentive one-year deal for next year. If he still sucks, cut him.
  16. Missed his Met career entirely. Therefore, no memories.
  17. That bumping noise you hear is the Mets falling into last place.
  18. Immaculate! https://scontent-lga3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/369779147_6976341375709290_5383962933977976178_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5cd70e&_nc_ohc=optIq5-nhCwAX95j_aL&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-2.xx&oh=00_AfCu8yGVp-uEKtMpiu-mTrkggtCE4bPBOPOanhs9o1nGyA&oe=64EC2F9E>
  19. I see no need to do this. Gooden screwed the Mets repeatedly by wasting his talent on a variety of recreational drugs. Strawberry left for more money. Straw has at least turned his life around. Gooden is still figuring it out, which is not a good look at 58. Who's next? Al Leiter? I'd rather have the numbers in rotation.
  20. Go FeCkLes!
  21. Gerrit Cole 6 runs in 4 innings. Yanx looking like the wheels are falling off. Well, misery loves company. My loudmouth Yankme friends have gone silent these days.
  22. ......campers no longer happy. Megill starting to piss me off.
  23. I'm here as well, Section 309. Hoping Megill doesn't pass me off.
