1. Typical Met game- one bad inning they can't recover from.
2. Don't understand why they didn't send him there. Need to push the envelope a bit.
3. Looked like Marte lost that one in the lights. Regardless, your pitcher needs to pick you up there, and Manaea didn't.
4. It is blisteringly hot here, something that was not on my bingo card.
5. This turf is really fast- you're gonna see a lot of doubles.
6. My fear is that Mendoza has a quick hook because he has a rested bullpen. Even though that bullpen is trash.
7. Rap music blasting. Really annoying.
8. Got to the stadium early and can report the beer is cheaper than Citi. 65-70% Philly fans. Can't really blame Met fans for not showing up. The entire outfield is a sun field- I imagine that'll get better as time goes on. No sighting of either Mr Met or the Phanatic yet.
9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's seeming more and more that this isn't about bringing baseball to the people of London but about bringing American baseball fans to spend money in London. I think if I was there I would ignore the MLB promotional stuff (other than the game, of course) and spend my time exploring the city. Is this your first trip to London, or had you been there before? Third time. We've done all the tourist stuff (Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, The Eye, Globe Theater, show on the West End, Picadilly Circus, Windsor Castle, Churchill War Rooms, etc, etc), so this time we went further afield, visiting Oxford (I feel smarter already) and Bletchley Park, which is a fascinating place for students of WW2. And we've been to a few pubs for a pint. Tomorrow we're going to the top of The Shard for a view of the city before heading over to the stadium. There's so much to do that it almost feels wrong to interrupt it with a Met game or two. As far as I can tell the Brits don't care at all, but they're happy to take our money.
10. I have a novel theory: the shift. Or more properly, the end of the shift. He had a knack for hitting against the shift for lefties, hitting balls that would have been outs if they were playing straight-up. Well, now they 're playing straight up and he hasn't adjusted. Just my .02.
11. Went to the Trafalgar Square 'MLB Takeover' today and what a mess. Crappy swag you have to wait on an enormous line to get. Crappy American food. A batting cage you wouldnt get into until 2026. And two Brits playing hip-hop music. Neither of them could pick Bryce Harper or Pete Alonso out of a lineup. Easily 70% Phils fans, obnoxious and overconfident.
12. Yes, if only I could figure out how to post pics from my phone....
13. I was sure right about my November misgivings. But here we are- Lefty Jr is with us courtesy of my United points and her Marriott points. Met some Philly fans on the Tube today. They're nervous that they'll be embarrassed. We told them we eat embarrassment for breakfast. I also told them if they're down two runs going to the 9th, they've got the game in the bag. As far as a CPF sign, they won't let you take in anything larger than a small purse. Just hope we won't be having any more embarrassment for Sunday breakfast.
14. Cool. Have noticed some Mets fans but even more Phillies fans here the past few days..... The weather has been sparkling and it looks like it'll be okay for the games, too.
15. If the Mets are still bumping along below .500 at the end of July, I'd expect Pete and a bunch of others will be gone. Remember Cohen is OK with paying off contracts to get something better back in the deal, so I'd expect Alonso will fetch more than he otherwise might have.
16. Stephen Colbert piles on Trump and the Mets. He then introduced, “on the condition of complete anonymity,” Juror #11, who though faceless at first, is immediately identifiable as Benanti with her signature Melania Trump accent—with a twist. “I am just a random New Yorker with a random New York accent,” Benanti said as the anonymous juror when questioned about how familiar her voice sounds. “How about those Mets? Not good at baseball, yes?”
17. They need to DFA about half of this team.
18. =kcmets post_id=157130 time=1717029047 user_id=53] Players-only team meeting per Brandon... you know what that means... Bad News for The Diamondbacks!!!
19. Yeah, soccer stadiums don't really work. Cricket grounds would work better but I think they're in use this time of year. Anyway, we shall see. They're also doing a big MLB hoo-hah in Trafalgar Square featuring Daniel Murphy and Chase Utley (boo). Maybe I'll take a whack at his leg. This seems to be less of a 'let's introduce the Brits to baseball' thing and more of a 'let's get die-hard fans of their teams to travel thousands of miles to a foreign country' thing. I think the Brits could care less.
20. So we're off shortly to Old Blighty. We'll be in Scotland first and then taking a train down to London, sightseeing all the way and winding up in London Stadium on June 8 & 9 to see the Mets play (and hopefully not embarrass themselves in the process) the Philadelphia Phillies. London Stadium is where West Ham United normally plays soccer and was a location for the 2012 London Olympics track & field events. Soccer stadiums generally make for poor baseball fields. This one was a little more flexible, but not much. It'll be 385 to center, compensated for by a 16-foot mini-Green Monster. 335 down the lines and shallow alleys. There's a good chance there'll be a lot of long balls. Look at all that foul territory. Makes Oakland look positively cozy. Also an incredible amount of room for the Phanatic to ride his ATV, alas. Looking forward to seeing the Mets suck on two continents. You can't miss me, I'll be the one in the Alvarez jersey. Even my jerseys get injured. Apparently still tickets available for the Bravehearts among you.
21. His .234 OBP will fit right in. Unless he's Worlds Away in Syracuse.
22. Parada's the safety net if Alvarez fails. They're not going to rush him up before he's ready. And if Alvarez thrives, he's the first baseman in a post-Alonso world. Oh, and the Mets are just bad. I'd like to know 'the plan', like we always used to ask of Sandy Alderson back in the day. 'Cuz it's not really working out so far.
