  1. This inning is just a perfect microcosm of this game: - NYM pitcher gets ahead but can't put him away and instead gives him a free pass - Brewer bat, in this case Cain for the third time tonight, hits a piece 'o shit that finds a hole - Met fielder does something stupid - more free advances on the bases
  2. =bmfc1 post_id=8384 time=1556409731 user_id=73] It would be nice if Mets catchers could catch the ball.
  3. My local theatre had 41 showings of this film today, starting at 8:30 AM with the final one at 11:50 tonight. 37 regular plus 4 more in 3D Looks like only 38 time/screen choices on the docket for Sunday But I'm on team FMan on this one, the appeal of these superhero films eludes me. And, let's face it, I highly doubt this movie is going to be the 'endgame' of anything.
  4. Not even a little bit.
  5. To say that the fans in Toronto are a wee bit excited over the debut of Vladdy Jr would be a wee bit of an understatement. The standing O he got for picking up a foul ball might have been the first clue. A bit shorter but definitely a thicker build than the old man, he's listed at 6' 2"/250 (vs Sr.'s 6' 3"/235) which, considering he just turned 20 a few weeks ago is rather large. The swing is not dissimilar, particularly the long follow-through finish. Sr is, of course, up in the box watching, looking a bit thicker himself these days with a bald spot up top but otherwise looks great (hell, he's only 44 y/o at this point) 0-2 so far: bouncer to 1st and a liner caught at the wall in the LF corner. Wasn't going out but a very nice play to save a 2B
  6. But now you corrected the spelling so the joke doesn't make sense!!!
  7. Does more than one Rosario at SS mean more errors?
  8. If Rhame (or anyone) admits to throwing at someone the suspensions are just going to be longer, so the 'got away' stories are virtually required. It would be like saying 'No, your honor, I'm not at all remorseful for my crime' leading up to your sentencing.
  9. Gary & Gelbs went through a quickie Brewers KTE during one of the Philly games the other day. - Their 13-13 record looks OK until you realize that they started 8-2. That's a June-2018 Metsian-type collapse. They've lost 7 of their last 8 - Their pitching is now officially the worst in the NL, they 'caught' the Mets in ERA (going the wrong way) a couple of days ago - Are ridiculously dependent on the HR with HRs accounting for over 70% of all their runs scored to date this season. The Mets in their HR-happiest year were only around 50% Yelich (13) is the main power source followed by Grandal (6), Moustakas (6), Braun (5) & Thames (5) - Their only good starter this year has been Zach Davies. We've seen him six times as a Brewer, twice in each of the last three seasons; he's the skinny dude (6' 0" / 160) who looks like he's about 15 years old. So to combat that he went out and got himself a bunch of dorky tattoos and they worked to the extent that he now looks like he's at least a 16 y/o ... only with a bunch of dorky tattoos. He actually just turned 26 We're scheduled to see him on Sunday - the big blemish on Josh Hader's season to date is that 3 of the 6 hits he's given up is his 12 IP have been HRs - and he would have had a 4th on his record except that Lorenzo Cain stole a sure game-tying one back from over the fence on Opening Day
  10. I'm reluctant to visit Progressive Field out of fear of running into Flo
  11. Jonathon Niese, previously 'selected' by the L.I. Ducks in what I suppose passes for a draft of sorts for that league, instead runs as far away as he can get in the continental U.S. by signing a minor league deal w/Seattle.
  12. The manager of a running team once said that his speedsters would stop running with a big lead just as soon as the power guys on the other side stopped trying to hit HRs. That essentially gives you license to run forever. During Tuesday's game Gary did pick up on at least the oddity of Realmuto running, then noted how Lagares doing so an inning or so later was likely a form of tit-for-tat. On Wednesday Keith mentioned a pre-game chat with Philly announcer John Kruk who told him that Conforto thought he was being buzzed as a result of all that which in turn could have planted the idea of retaliation in the pen/Rhame's head. The problem wasn't that Rhame buzzed Hoskins it's that he was head-high in doing so. I'd be pissed at that too and it's not like the second one would make me less so. I'm pretty indifferent to how long his run around the bases took.
  13. A coupla errors tonight, plus a buncha plays not made.
  14. IIRC, McClain's biggest self-proclaimed vice was something like a 24 can/day Pepsi jones. Not that that's quite the same as butts and booze (which he could have had in addition to being the leading member of the Pepsi Generation) but he sure packed on the pounds over time and that certainly doesn't help a career.
  15. Yeah I was going to say that Frank might have been involved in some great moments in sports, but that swing wasn't one of them.
  16. I think the thought about Keuchel/Kimbrel is that it's only six or so weeks until the draft at this point and that teams are willing to wait until after that passes at which point compensation picks would go away.
  17. Obviously it's the 'Wheeler Game', but a 2-out/5th inning Grand Slam by a guy fresh off the DL in what was then a 4 run lead with your starter, while good, already on a high pitch count and clearly not finishing the game, shouldn't be dismissed as mere 'tack-on' runs.
  18. Nimmo = Oblique "tightness" Better to get him out of there before he 'Stantons' himself and is out for a while. Would also be nice to start the 1st inning without a backwards K for a change.
  19. The assumption is that he'd automatically be an upgrade for the rotation but that's hardly a given. Gonzalez has had the better career than Vargas but not necessarily the better recent track record. 2nd half of last year comparison: GG: 13 starts; 69.3 IP; 67 Hits; 38 ER; 32 BB; 54 K; 4.83 ERA; 1.43 WHIP JV: 11 starts; 54.3 IP; 45 Hits; 23 ER; 16 BB; 52 K; 3.81 ERA; 1.12 Vargas's start to this year has been lousy but so has Gio's and his was at AAA Vargas is older but Gonzalez has about as much wear on his tires. And, yeah, he's slow and annoying to watch and often into his 80th pitch w/one out in the 4th inning so won't be doing the bullpen much good either.
  20. Where do I sign up to miss Huey Lewis and the News?
  21. -- The BoSox, after sweeping a three-game series from the high-flying Rays last weekend celebrated their first good stretch of 2019 by getting swept in a Tuesday DH by the not-so-high-flying Tigers -- Yadier Molina pulled off a straight steal of 3rd base on Tuesday. No truth to the rumors that the pitcher, catcher, and manager of the opposing team (Brewers) have all since been not only fired but deported.
  22. =MFS62 post_id=7867 time=1555939624 user_id=60] I fear this thread is going to be a chilling read all year.
  23. And I'll remind everyone that this game is for sole possession of 1st place in the NL East
  24. mlb.com is crediting Wheeler with being this season's first 100/100 player: first to throw a pitch over 100 mph and also hit a pitch over 100 mph in the same game
