1. Two more NYM HRs and we'll tie Yelich and Goldschimdt (pending their games tonight)
2. The guy who scored the go-ahead and potential winning run should have been out twice before he ever reached home; once at 1st and then again at 3rd
3. OK, Davis's throwing is a bit of a concern. Both on his lob throws on potential DP balls to 2nd (twice now) and also on his harder throw across the diamond, he just doesn't seem CAHNfident that the ball is going to end up where it needs to go.
4. I think it was always pretty knowable that he was a chowderhead. That he turned out to be a barely civilized borderline sociopath was perhaps beyond what could be expected.
5. Giancarlo: 10-Day IL -- Biceps Strain
6. I was OK with leaving Wilson in on Sunday. He had retired "every" batter he faced this year up to that point -- OK it was all of seven batters (4 RHB, 3 LHB) but the point is he was pitching well. And basically if you get through that inning unscathed then you're in extras with Familia & Diaz ready to go vs Doolittle & Rosenthal already spent. Advantage = Us
7. Well, I'm going assume you meant Drew Smith until I hear otherwise. That leaves our final vote at: 30 - JACOB deGROM 29 - BRANDON NIMMO 28 - ZACK WHEELER 27 - NOAH SYNDERGAARD 26 - MICHAEL CONFORTO 25 - JEFF McNEIL 24 - ASDRUBAL CABRERA 23 - SETH LUGO 22 - AMED ROSARIO 21 - STEVEN MATZ 20 - JEURYS FAMILIA 19 - TODD FRAZIER 18 - WILMER FLORES 17 - ROBERT GSELLMAN 16 - JOSE BAUTISTA 15 - KEVIN PLAWECKI 14 - YOENIS CESPEDES 13 - DEVIN MESORACO 12 - JAY BRUCE 11 - JASON VARGAS 10 - DREW SMITH 9 - JERRY BLEVINS 8 - JUAN LAGARES 7 - AUSTIN JACKSON 6 - DANIEL ZAMORA 5 - TYLER BASHLOR 4 - COREY OSWALT 3 - ADRIAN GONZALEZ 2 - JOSE REYES 1 - PAUL SEAWALD
8. "Wait til you guys [the press] see Bill Pecota"]And Bill (please tell Joe Beningo that I'm NOT the guy who makes those numerical projections) Pecota.
9. His given name is Jonathan Gregory Davis ... not quite sure how 'J D' comes out of that, particularly when followed by Davis, but I suppose it doesn't matter much.
10. At least one report is billing him as baseball first "21st Century player", which he actually isn't but Blue Jays reliever Elvis Luciano made his ML debut on Sunday which bears noting because he was born on February 15th of 2000, the first player NOT to be born in either the 18__'s or 19__'s and reach the major leagues. The first true 21st century player will be born in 2001 or later but we could be within a year of seeing that at this point.
11. Yanx wind up losing two straight to the Orioles after their opening day win. And you know they're counting on going at least 15-4 vs Bal'mer this season or something like that. That today's game took them over 7 hours between rain delays and a really slow game only makes today's loss better, as does Tulowitski K'ing to end the game with the tying runs on. Of course it helps them that the other supposed powerhouses in the AL didn't have good weekends either: - Houston went 1-3 (vs TBR); Boston also starts 1-3 (SEA); and Cleveland 1-2 (Twins)
12. Harper got his phirst Philly HR (and curtain call) on Saturday. A solo shot in the 7th which upped the Phils' lead to 3-runs The phightin's have taken the first two from the rather sloppy-looking Braves
13. Let's fuck 'em in the other ear tomorrow. Or, y'know, the baseball equivalent of it.
14. - Yes, d'Arnaud is on the shelf to start the year. I still would have pr'd for Ramos there. Turned out to not matter although it looked for a while like it might when WR couldn't go 1st to 3rd on the single. Third catcher or not, you can't be afraid of the 'what if' scenario of the backup getting hurt in the final two (or more) innings. Don't recall Mickey being shy about that last year so maybe he had a reason for this one. Damned if I can figger out what it was though. - OK, it's official: Alonso is one big strong boy. That he also seems to have an idea of what he's doing up there just makes it better. First double was impressive; second one even more so. He also went chasing after a couple of outside sliders which, unless he proves he can lay off those, is something he'll see a steady diet of starting ... like tomorrow and every day after that. - Not really sure why Mickey went to Lugo when he did. Not that Familia looked great, but 22 pitches wasn't horrible especially considering that he should have been out of the inning. And wouldn't you think Lugo is more likely to give up a HR than Familia ... y'know, one bad curveball? 3 HR last year in 70 innings for JF (1 as NYM, 2 w/OAK) but 22 HRs for Lugo in 2017-18 combined, or about 200 IP. And you had to know Adams was coming in to PH with just that on his mind. That one is six rows deep in Philly, and 16 rows in the Bronx - 3:50 game time ... Ugh!

16. Yeah, a lot would depend on where you're staying. If anywhere within the area served by METRO you can just leave your car wherever you leave it Friday night and do the equivalent of the 7-Train in. https://dctransitguide.com/static/images/WMATA_system_map.pnghttps://dctransitguide.com/static/images/WMATA_system_map.png See 'Navy Yard/Ballpark' stop on the Green line due south of the Capitol If you want to drive to the stadium or simply near-er to it there are various parking lots in the area, the closer to the stadium the more costly they get. Go to the Nats team page for maps, suggestions, etc. You can also pre-buy a parking pass to various lots. https://www.mlb.com/nationals/ballpark/transportation/driving-parking#parking-informationhttps://www.mlb.com/nationals/ballpark/transportation/driving-parking#parking-information
17. The old line about DiMaggio is that he never made a mistake on the field. Presumably that included stuff such as correct routes to the ball, throwing to the right base, when to take the extra base, etc. Of course those quotes always came from DiMaggio acolytes speaking about how awesome DiMaggio was so it's tough for those who didn't see him to know how they rate on the accuracy meter. Doesn't mean he wasn't great and graceful, only that there was usually a degree of hagiography involved in discussions de DiMag. On those rare occasions (or ocassions if you prefer) when someone would suggest that Joe D wouldn't rate with the greater athleticism of more modern players, such as saying that he never dove for balls, the retort would always come back that he always got such great jumps and was in such great position that "he didn't have to". Of course one could suggest that an OF who got great jumps and took great routes and caught balls with athletic dives and leaps would be even better ... but I think those points were put down with some version of "[insert number] Rings!!"
18. My response to MI in another thread: Frayed Knot wrote: =metirish post_id=5575 time=1553871243 user_id=72]...Cano makes everything look effortless (as a MFY I classed this as lazy Oh make no mistake, both conditions can be, and often are, true. There is both an effortless ease about him AND more than a bit of a dog at times too.

20. LWFS, which Smith in slot #13?
21. I was once at a game at Shea when none other than Barry Bonds ran into a Triple Play under similar circumstances. Barry was on 3rd in a 1st & 3rd situation (no outs obviously) and decided not to break until the relay throw was headed to 1st. The play at home was closer than this one but BB became the 3rd out

23. Yanx win their opener vs Baltimore, 7-2 Not sure when the pin-stripers are scheduled to play their first Major League game.
24. And the 38-12 OD record is as cool as it is unexplainable. Never before heard the 'stat' Gary quoted about it being the best 50-year streak for any team in any sport. Well, maybe not the Globetrotters, or probably the personal hoops squad for Kim il-Sung/Kim Jong-Il/Kim Jong-Un, but you get the idea.
25. =Fman99 post_id=5483 time=1553801253 user_id=86] Want to see Familia settle in to his new 8th inning role with some success here.
