  1. Frazier also hit that weak-ass groundout w/no-out and runners on 2nd & 3rd when just about anything else would have plated a run.
  2. Two hits so far for Rosario ... AND he's fielded two ground balls without a major incident too!!
  3. Soto was lucky not to draw a Yellow Card for his berating of the referee on that called strike
  4. In honor of the English Premier League ending its season on Sunday (Manchester City hung on to outlast Liverpool for those of you who haven't called SPORTSPHONE yet) I think it would be cool to hear baseball called by British soccer announcers. Hellickson thought he was going to get away with a clean sheet for the first inning but, following the assistance of the 'Video Referee', his hopes were dashed by a lovely ball struck by the Venezuelan international Wilson Ramos
  5. Sure it suxx ... but think about how good a trading-deadline (or maybe post-deadline?) pickup he'll seem like once he finally does get around to being healthy enough to make the roster.
  6. Over the last month or so, (since April 10th) Bryce Harper is 21 for 107 (.196)
  7. So the rainout on Sunday moves Syndergaard's start to Tuesday. Prior to that this series was looking to be one without: Scherzer, Strasberg, deGrom, Syndergaard, and Matz It's still missing all those other guys so we will miss both those two 'S' guys -- although the Nats are somehow 2-7 in Scherzer starts this year (1-1 vs NYM) So as things stand now: Tuesday 7:05 -- Syndergaard vs Jeremy Hellickson [6 starts; 2-1; 5.52; 1.62] Wednesday 7:05 -- Font vs Patrick Corbin [8 starts; 3-1; 3.20; 1.11] Thursday 1:05 -- Wheeler vs Anibal Sanchez [8 starts; 0-6; 5.27; 1.68] The now 16-24!! Nats are 4-8 in May despite coming off a four game split at the Dodgers, a series which finished off on Sunday with Ryu no-hitting them for 7-1/3 Anthony Rendon is recently off the IL, as is Juan Soto as of today. Both 1st sackers Zimermann and Matt Adams are currently sitting on the IL, as SS Trea Turner has been for most of the season. Howie Kendrick has been playing 1B over the last week or so joined by Geraldo Parra whom the Nats picked up on Thursday two days after he was released by SFG Kendrick and Adam Easton have been their two best hitters once you get past Rendon They're just below average (and also just below the Mets) in RS/G but are towards the bottom (and again right behind the Mets) in RA/G Their relievers have a collective 6.13 ERA and 1.62 WHIP ... and I bet you thought the NYM pen 4.78 / 1.47 is tough to stomach.
  8. Or maybe you could hope that he'd be pitching to a sub-4.00 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP like he did the second half of last year. Seems like that would be much better than is hoping for failure and release, especially with no better options in mind, but, hey, that's just me.
  9. I suspect that cartoon is directed towards me although I have no idea what it's trying to say.
  10. Braves @ Cleveland, Sat April 20 Game 1 = 3:04, Game 2 = 3:54 That's what killed the double-header! OK, so it wasn't the only thing, but it's certainly a factor. DH's existed in the old days for two basic reasons: - to give extra off-days in the days of slower travel - to increase attendance by giving fans the equivalent of a two-fer-one deal. The first of those conditions no longer applies, and, given the length of game times (7 hours as in the example above plus whatever between-game time is involved), and the second would probably be considered a disincentive to a lot of folks now.
  11. =kcmets post_id=9790 time=1557624766 user_id=53] =Fman99 post_id=9778 time=1557621194 user_id=86]It's nice that the Geico cavemen could get dressed up for this game and enjoy some cocktails from the second row.
  12. Are there really any physicists currently claiming that curve balls don't curve, or is this something announcers like to repeat so as to make themselves seem smarter?
  13. The German-born Altherr is one of those uber-athletic types whose baseball skills just never caught up (at least not yet). The Cubs, on a Wilson Contreras walk-off in the 15th inning, and the Rays, on a tight game until some TB runs late, even up each of those 1st-place-battling series at a game apiece.
  14. =Fman99 post_id=9726 time=1557539307 user_id=86] I love when the dig into the baseball cards. God bless these guys.
  15. Rays, down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, loaded the bases with no one out ... and proceeded to go K - GiDP Fuck you, Tampa!
  16. =Fman99 post_id=9713 time=1557534586 user_id=86] Wheels is dealin'. Most of these hits by MIA were seeing eye singles. Big lead for the good guys and a Kinks song. That's already a solid day right there.
  17. Two big May series going on this weekend. - Brewers draw first blood on Friday afternoon at Wrigley, 7-0 is your final. The win pulls Milwaukee into a tie w/Chicago atop the NLC although not with identical records: MWB = 24-16; CC = 22-14 - And the Yanx visit Tampa/StPete to go against the 1st place Rays Yanx start the weekend in 2nd place 1.5 games behind the Rays who are allowing BY FAR the fewest R/G in the majors (3.06/G) Yanx up 2-0 midway thru the 3rd
  18. Amed Rosario ties Derek Jeter for career Grand Slams (1)
  19. So tonight it takes Mattingly one entire pitch before asking for an umpire challenge.
  20. Seeing Ron, posing awkwardly in a set of duds he probably never wore again and in a picture he's probably embarrassed to look at today, is why I have no regrets on passing on the multiple fashion magazine cover opportunities I had back in the '80s. Can you imagine how hard I'd try to hide those things today and how much I'd live in fear of one of youse guys dragging up a copy off of some obscure website?
  21. This Schaefer PotM award for Alonso gives that Milwaukee pitcher another reason to get pissed off.
  22. =kcmets post_id=9679 time=1557513900 user_id=53] Where's that lineup, this is a baseball thread!
