  4. Friday's MFY win vs the Twinkies marked their first (and currently their only) in 2019 against a team with a winning record. The only two winning clubs they'd faced prior to this Minnesota series were Houston (0-3) and the DBacks (0-2) so this in-progress series puts them at 1-6 Against sub-.500 clubs so far they're 17-8, to date they've faced: BALT (4-2); DET (1-2); CHW (1-2); BOS (2-0); KCR (3-1); LAA (3-1); SFG (3-0)
  5. Eric Thames (right spelling, wrong pronunciation) joins Johnny Sain (right pronunciation, wrong spelling) and Tim Hudson on baseball's All-River team.
  6. Third DP in six innings. One on the steal attempt and two grounders
  7. That's 'Front Row Amy'. Monk talked about her last year https://www.frontrowamy.com/#homehttps://www.frontrowamy.com/#home
  8. Almost all the hits tonight (13 for both teams combined so far) have either been because of the shift, not out of the infield, or Both.

Brew's pitcher Woodruff needed some 35 pitches just to get thru the top of the 1st which, especially when you consider that he got two outs on just one pitch (strike-out/throw out DP), was a whole lotta pitches for just one run. Matz, while not nearly as bad, wasn't exactly quick in getting thru his one-run bottom half of the inning. Things have been scooting along a bit faster since. The funny part is that Matz has mostly been working fast.

  11. Yeah, I don't think Rosie is in any danger of being sent down, but the very presence of Hechavarria at least gives Mickey the option of sitting him down once a week or more if and when he goes into a funk. Certainly less tempting to do so with Guillorme as the option.
  12. -- The Cubs' Kyle Hendricks tosses a complete game shutout on Friday afternoon at Wrigley using just 81 pitches: 63 strikes; 4 hits (all singles), no walks, just 3 K 4-0 final. Game took as long as 2:28 thanks to 6 hits plus 6 walks/12 Ks by StL hurlers
  13. The late-90s Yanquis run was marked by them consistently playing above their Pythag status with 1997 being the only exception [1996 thru 2001 = +4; -4; +6; +2; +2; +6] And while none of the seasons were outrageously high so the whole thing could simply be written off to random variation, those teams often had a stark two-tiered bullpen system where the 3 or 4 best and most highly paid relievers [usually Rivera, Stanton, Nelson, Mendoza] fronted a pen where the bottom half were minimum wage no-names hired so that George could demonstrate that he retained some control over total team salary. Torre, forced to use what he was given, was good at resting his top guys in games where the Yanx were trailing. If those scrubs pitched well in those games the offense often erased the deficit and he'd go to the top guys to close it out. But when the scrubeenies would blow those deficits into routs the to guys would get the day off, resting up until they were actually needed, and the size of the loss was written off as nothing more than one day of bad headlines in the midst of a dominant season. Cause and Effect, or coincidence? Impossible to prove one way or the other of course, but I remember thinking at the time that those teams seemed particularly susceptible to blowout losses out of proportion to their usual 100-win status.
  14. =Centerfield post_id=8999 time=1556894844 user_id=65]I imagine Keith is still kinda pissed that they no longer keep track of [GW-RBI]. Imagine being awesome at it, setting a record, getting this card in its honor ... Thinking that it's something you can brag about, put on your HoF resume, then poof. The stat is gone.
  15. The DH in question had the NYM pitchers -- Koosman & Cardwell -- each driving in the only run in a pair of 1-0 wins, but neither was via a HR https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PIT/PIT196909121.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PIT/PIT196909121.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PIT/PIT196909122.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PIT/PIT196909122.shtml
  16. East side, west side all around the town The Cincy bats are stifled, Joey Votto's sitting down deGrom's been perfect starting, then hands off to Ryan O'Rourke When the Mets win we'll going dancing on the sidewalks of New York
  17. CC=3K on Tuesday night, making him the 17th pitcher with 3,000 Ks and just the third left-hander, although seeing as how the first two LHPs (Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton) both have north of 4,000 that's as far as Sabathia is going to go in what I believe he has already announced will be his final ML season. Even the 82 additional Ks he'd need to catch John Smoltz for 16th place overall will be iffy. Justin Verlander -- 2,759 -- is the next highest active pitcher Yanx lost that game and then again this afternoon to cool off a bit after winning 8 of their previous 10 mostly on a west coast trip.
  18. A heavy workload for JdG in the 4th, but he got through it with a bases-loaded K
  19. Funny, he doesn't look Drewish
