  1. Final Harvey line: 4 IP, 8 runs all earned, 10 hits, 2 walks, 5 K for the now 1-6 Angels At 91 pitches over those four innings, the Angels can at least be happy that the Dark Knight got his work in. Cleveland's Trevor Bauer became the second pitcher in a week to get pulled with a no-hitter going. 7 innings, 8 K, 6 BB, 117 pitches In Bauer's first start this season he went seven inning while giving up only one hit, so that's now one hit across 14 frames for the season Indian relievers kept his no-no going through the 8th but the Jays got 1 run on 3 hits in the 9th The last no-hitter for the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" was Len Barker's perfect game, also against Toronto, in 1981

Yeah, you never saw the lip of the infield screw up infielders before, because infielders used to play in the infield. K & G kept saying how they've never seen that before (at least not a hop to that degree) but I fret about such a hop each and every time I see a deep-playing NYM 2nd sacker waiting for the grounder to get to him. iow, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, even though, as they mentioned, those lips aren't as stark as they were in years past.
  5. And there's another by-product of the shift.
  6. I'll tell you one thing though, deGrom's beard isn't winning any awards.
  7. I have no idea how a stadium can affect exit velocity. And if wind is a factor then it's not really exit velocity that they're measuring but rather the speed of the ball sometime after it exits the bat.
  8. One more inning (at least) out of deGrom, please Mickey.
  9. Phils become the final team to drop from the ranks of undefeated, losing this afternoon to the Nats 9-8 Nats were winning most of the afternoon but then their bullpen struck again and coughed up 4 in the 8th. Phillies, though, returned the favor by giving up 2 to tie the game in bottom 8 then David Robertson came out of their pen in the 9th and went: SINGLE, WALK, WALK, walk-off WALK
  10. Average number of pitches, but 8 hits thru 5 including 5 for XBs and more than a few loud outs iow, Yeah, it was time
  11. Zack Greinke, who got roughed up by the Dodgers on opening day [7 ER in 3-2/3 IP] had a slightly better outing in start #2 vs SDP on Tuesday: 3 earned on 6 hits over 6 innings Oh yeah, and he also added 2 HRs and 4 RBI with the bat
  12. These numbers don't help in that regard: 3:50; 3:15; 3:10; 3:23 Only opening day so far (2:44 for a 2-0 game) has clocked in at under 3 hours
  13. I wondered if he was passing along a 'tell'.
  14. You guys weren't nervous were you?

If he pushes it past Chen, there's nothing but grass and everyone walks to the next base. Gary didn't like it but I think it was clever up 3 runs in the 7th with them giving you the entire left side. Yup, even Ramos scores on that ... particularly since he was able to get a YUGE lead with the lone IF playing some 75 feet away. I saw the Turner play tonight and, like Lagares the other day, he was bunting when he got his hand plunked.
  16. And word is that Lagares (as I suspected) was bunting on his own.
  17. SF Giants deal three minor league players to Toronto for defensive CF specialist Kevin Pillar Odd trade for opening week, but apparently SFG have been after him all winter and the two teams just now figured out a satisfactory package
  18. Phillies @ Nationals tonight (Tues) which of course means the return of Harper Expect much booing, gnashing of teeth, columns of ink, etc. So far I've been unable to confirm the rumor that he's already been in a confrontation with DC writers. The story goes that one asked him about his favorite people, places, or things in Philadelphia so far and that Bryce responded with a terse; "That's a Noun question Bro!"
  19. Orioles hung on for a 6-5 win as the Rays score 5 times in the 7th, 8th, and 9th That would be your 3-1 1st place in the AL East Orioles. oe: Actually the Rays are now 4-1 in that 'upside down' division.
  20. More than a bit sloppy tonight plus far too many Ks ... but they won anyway.

  22. You can't stop Dom Smith's speed, you can only hope to contain him.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe it's just my impression, but it seems like Mattingly never wins challenges. But then somehow argues into being awarded six more.
  24. The Marlins should try a nine-pitchers/nine-innings strategy, cuz all we do facing pitchers for the 1st time is go down on 3 Ks
