  1. Nuke: A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
  2. Nicely done AG/DC. I like having the minor league rosters there, too!
  3. Nixon will wear #6... add another one to the count!
  4. AG/DC wrote: Joins the fraternity of Presidential Mets, providing he gets voted in by Claudell Washington, Stanley Jefferson, the Taylors (Billy, Chuck, Hawk, Ron, and Sammy), the Jacksons (Al, Darrin, and Roy Lee), Brian Buchanan, the Johnsons (Ben, Bob, Bob, Howard, Lance, and Mark), the Wilsons (Mookie, Paul, Preston, Tom, and Vance) and Gary Carter. Assuming I didn't forget anybody like President Schmelz (very unsafe assumption), he'd be the 24th Presidential Met, one short of a roster. Playing for the B-Mets this year... and ready to be the 25th... Harry Obama.

Martinez, who spent several seasons with Nixon in Boston, had plenty to say about the acquisition. When asked about Nixon's demeanor, Martinez joked: "Quiet. Gamer. Doesn't say much. Very aggressive, as you can say, on the field. ...Very good person, he just doesn't say much. ...He's got that little bull-face. He can be a little crazy. I suggest you really find a moment to talk to him to really find out. Some people called him the 'snapper.' ...He looks like a little grouch all of the time. Other than that, he's a great person." ... "I'll tell you what," Martinez said. "He can play for my team any day." http://web.sny.tv/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080614&content_id=1463596&oid=36018&vkey=9
  6. So the fans w/tickets for the original Friday night game now have tickets for a Friday afternoon game and the fans wtih tickets for a 7 PM game now have tickets for a 8 PM game! Baseball loves its fans!
  7. You guys are right. I give him credit for saying "I suck" after the game but F him.
  8. Billy Wagner, whatever you say about him, is tougher than most of the ballplayers. He has a weekly (paid) interview on ESPN radio in NY and he's there now. He could have made something up but he didn't. He also said that if he does his job, the team is doing OK--"I'm not doing my job."
  9. Wright walks right past Aguila in the dugout. The new guy must feel horrible and I pat on the back would have been nice.
  10. That wuss in the white hat should have reached for it as soon as it was over the bar--it might have impeded Jackson.
  11. Wow. After a great run, the BP has become a problem (thank you, Captain Obvious).

  13. Thanks for the nod, but it's according to John Delcos: http://mets.lohudblogs.com/

  15. Phew. I mean HOORAY!
  16. This is on me. I didn't get home until the bottom of the 8th.
  17. I missed the first 7 innings as I was at my son's game (a 14-4 loss). I just want to say that you people have done a fantastic job tonight!
  18. Alou is amazing. He hasn't played for 2 weeks, didn't have a rehab game, and he swings at the first pitch to drive in 2.
  19. METS SS Jose Reyes 2B Luis Castillo 3B David Wright CF Carlos Beltran 1B Carlos Delgado LF Moises Alou C Brian Schneider RF Endy Chavez RH John Maine Goodbye Casanova, welcome back Moises and Marlon. Nunez remains on the roster.
  20. For the theme song for tonight's game, please welcome Warren Zevon! "Johnny is my main man."
  21. Gwreck wrote: Delcos is the Mets beat reporter for the Journal News (the Westchester/Rockland paper). In my opinion, his blog is among the best of the Mets beat reporters (only Adam Rubin of the Daily News and perhaps David Lennon of Newsday have better ones). Delcos does a great job. He answers questions from fans during the game and seems to enjoy reading fans comments. It's pathetic that a Mets staffer went after him for asking a tough question.
  22. http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2008/06/09/lawrence_braves_0610.html Good news for the Mets! I hope that they call him up soon.
  23. Erik Karabell made this comment today on espn.com: The Mets might want to take a look at Chris Aguila in the outfield after he hit his 17th home run for Triple-A New Orleans Monday, knocking in five runs with a 5-for-5 night. Aguila has eight home runs and 20 RBIs in his past 10 games. Yes, this is the same singles hitter who did very little in the Marlins outfield as a part-timer from 2004-06, but he's playing well and hitting for power now.
