My mind got fuzzy listening to Michael Kay try to figure out the rotations for this weekend (I almost yelled at my car radio "look it up on the internet!"). So Figueroa is scheduled to pitch one of the two games in Atlanta on Tuesday. Not good, either.
Don Sutton says that the Mets were given "a gift" in the bottom of the first. What was gifted to the Mets? The walk, OK, but then a steal and a single.
I'm watching in beautiful HD on MASN but I am not delaying the TV so I can listen to WFAN on the internet as I usually do. Let's see how long this lasts. Dopey Bob Carpenter and No-Nothing Don Sutton call the game for MASN. Carpenter just pondered if Figueroa realizes that he's pitching from the stretch even though nobody is on base. "What? I'm in the stretch? Are you kidding? Thanks for pointing it out Bob!"
nymr has it exactly right. I know this from coaching youth baseball. We had a game a few seasons ago when we ended an inning on play at the plate. The batter that hit the ball started the next inning. After he singled in the next inning, I told the ump. He went to the other team and they denied it (which was impossible). Since they were "home", they had the official book so their lineup was the one that counted and they got away with it. We won the game anyway. I'm not bitter at all.
Thanks. I agree that he should get one, what I'm wondering if both he and Wright can get one in the same game. If Easley plays SS, then who can play 3B? If not, perhaps one will get this Wed. and the other this Thursday. After 4 games with the Nationals, the Mets then have the MFYs for 3, a day off, then 4 with the Braves in 3 days (away), then a three game trip to Colorado.
Great first inning. I have the FSN OHIO on the TV but I paused the game so the internet feed from FAN catches up. It's a pain but worth it to hear Howie & Wayne instead of out-of-town announcers. Howie said that the Alou double bounced into "the grassy knoll." Was there a second hitter (or spitter)?
I'll start this one.... There's a sub franchise in Cincinnati called "Penn Station." I wonder if a transplanted NYker owns it. The answer to that one is "no." http://www.penn-station.com/history.php
They weren't booing, they were saluting Boog Powell. I agree with G-Fafif... it's frustration from the events of the game, not "you suck player X! We hate you and everything you stand for!" The fans weren't booing Sanchez or Wagner, they were pissed that they spent $200 for tickets, $100 on food and souvenirs, an hour each way on transportation, all to see a sucky game. That doesn't make it right, it just means that it's not about the individual player. Unless Doug Sisk is involved... then scratch the above statement.
This is embarrassing. 24 runs in the last two games, they're facing a pitcher with a thousand ERA, and they can't hit him. This afternoon, they looked great. Tonight, they looked like the team that did you-know-what, you-know-when. Maybe things would have been different if Alomar held Wright, but I doubt it.
The game is on mlb.tv b/not EI. Lousy call by the sub ump at first--Cohen said he's there because of the DH... umps can't work two games? Does the ump scheduled to work home in the 2d game get the first game off?
Who the heck is Hal McCoy to talk about Shea this way! We can, not somebody from elsewhere (even if he is a HOFer): http://www.journal-news.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/pro/reds/2008/05/08/ddn050808mccoyweb.html
18 is compensation for Glavine. There's a good draft chart within this article. We can use it for our MLB draft parties. http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2159&Itemid=1
I heard a 20 minute interview with Tim Beckham on XM's Baseball Channel. I was with my son, a JV freshman player, and three of his teammates. It was amazing to think that they are only three years younger than Beckham who is on the verge of becoming a pro. The host asked him about going to college and he said "12 years of school is enough."
