Hi. I'm back after watching my son's summer league team lose to fall to a record of 0-10-2. If Cardinals fans are so "great" (as in "the greatest fans in baseball"), how do they tolerate announcers like Mike Shannon and these losers I'm hearing on FSN Midwest?

Sometimes you go for snark and you come up with accuracy! Phillips was DFA'd after Monday's game to make room for Armas. Muniz lives. Nicely done G-Fafif. I thought that you were going for the funny but that's as good an explanation as anything else for some of the roster moves. Let's hope that tonight's game doesn't go into extras because the Mets will be only be playing with 4 bench players.

Hi Steve--insulting a member of the Carey family is an automatic reaction for me. And Castillo's lengthy contract is an easy target. I thought yesterday's post-game rant was pretty mean: "Church was ready but the genius that runs the team didn't activate him today b/c a lefty was starting... as a result, Tatis batted in the 9th instead of Church coming in as a PH. Oh yeah, Andy Phillips was available. Great, great moves Omar. Why doesn't he sign Shawn Chacon and any other piece of crap that has been released this week?"
I took my younger son to see Wall-E. He loved it but I didn't care one way or another about it. It's not the computer animation: I loved both Toy Story's and liked Nemo, The Incredibles and Cars, but this story--a lonely robot that longs for love plus lessons on life and caring for the environment--left me cold. I'm clearly in the minority judging by the raves on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, but I wonder if there are others that saw it and could have lived without it.
Meanwhile, Moron Chip Carey, spawn of Moron Skip Carey, is doing play-by-play for TBS. He called the pitching mound "the bump." What, there aren't enough cliches and slang terms in baseball, he has to make up his own?
"Does the b stand for bile?" And it stands for Joe Buck as in "SHUT UP JOE BUCK!" which is what I said out loud in the 9th as he rattled off the Mets lousy stats.
MetsGuyInMichigan's losing streak continues. Church was ready but the genius that runs the team didn't activate him today b/c a lefty was starting... as a result, Tatis batted in the 9th instead of Church coming in as a PH. It's time Reyes grew up. The enthusiasm is wonderful and we want it but that doesn't mean that you should have the baseball instincts of a 12 year old.
Church is 0 for 3 w/2 K's for the Cyclones tonight. Pedro is also pitching in Brooklyn. http://www.brooklyncyclones.com/gameday/stats/index.html?autoload=boxscore&gid=2008_06_27_abeasx_broasx_1&sportcode=asx

The only reason that there's a game @ 2 today (and the reason that the Shea game starts @ 8 and not 7) is because "the players" (we don't if it was Mets or MFYs or both) didn't want to give up a mutual off day on 9/11 to reschedule the make-up game. (It might have been nice to play the game on 9/11, wear the new patriotic hats that MLB is pushing, and give the proceeds to appropriate charities but that means nothing when it comes to a day off.) And it would have been nice (but not expected) of Mussina to think of all the fans that would have been inconvenienced by moving yesterday's game in Pittsburgh to 1 as he desired. No way he would think of them or those that have to take off hours from work to get to the game @ 2 today which is a workday for most people.
Waah-waah-waah. "I'm just pleased that we didn't play at one o'clock today," Mussina said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "We had a beautiful day and we could have played all day long. It's frustrating. Now we have to come back, lose another off day and play another game. It's frustrating when we lose off days, because we don't have that many as it is." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/06/26/2008-06-26_mike_mussina_upset_with_schedule_makes_a-1.html
