  1. One of the many negatives is that Don "Challenge" Mattingly will win Manager of the Year. They had a lousy roster to begin with, lost more than half their players to CV-19, played numerous doubleheaders and finished 2d while the Mets will (likely) be home on Monday.
  2. One time we need the MFYs to win and they lose. PHI lost, SF won the 1st game, so (per Tim Britton): "They need to get a wild card, which will require three wins, one more Phillies loss, two more Brewers losses (including tonight), and three more Giants losses." MIL is losing big so to stay alive for another day SD has to beat SF in the 2d game.
  3. Brief showers in Silver Spring, about 40 minutes from the Hell Hole they play in.

  5. Except for the fact that they are playing the last place Nationals, this is excellent.
  6. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1309100933121560578https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1309100933121560578
  7. At least it was under 3 hours.
  8. Per Tim Britton and others on Twitter, paths to the playoffs: 1. Win out (the hardest part) 2. Phillies lose at least 2 of 3 to TB 3. Brewers lose at least 4 of 6 to CIN and STL 4. Giants do no better than a split in their last six against COL and SD Mets would get the 8-seed on a tiebreaker. Mets win out, Phillies lose 2 of last 4 games and Marlins lose 3 of 5 last games. Amazins then grab the 6 seed. Don't forget one other possibility. Second place in the division. Obviously, the Mets have to win big,but the Marlins, who might be feeling the heat, play the Braves and the Yankees. Plus, the Mets have the tiebreaker vs. the Marlins. Tough, but doable. Might be their best path. (From Howie Rose). https://twitter.com/AmazinsNews/status/1308797461939523584/photo/1https://twitter.com/AmazinsNews/status/1308797461939523584/photo/1
  9. 3 runners out on the bases, 2 WPs in the 7th, an error in the 7th... it's shocking that they will miss the playoffs.
  10. That was a nice play by Frazier and a lovely DP. I hope that the next GM will strongly consider keeping Frazier around next year.
  11. There was something in Jeff Passan's column today about the draft order for 2021 and whether it would be based on this season alone or this season and all or part of last season. He speculated that it would just be this season. If it's just this season that the defending champions get a Top 10 pick while the Mets are around #10. http://www.tankathon.com/mlbhttp://www.tankathon.com/mlb
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I really think they should have decided to award three MVP, CY, and ROY awards this year, one for East, one for Central, and one for West. Everything else is off-kilter this season. This would be the least crazy thing on the list. This is a good idea as it's like there were 3 separate leagues this year.
  13. Marc Carig adds in the East v Central v West factor. Turns out that the East has the toughest hitters (so that's good for Jake): https://twitter.com/MarcCarig/status/1308412194942586880https://twitter.com/MarcCarig/status/1308412194942586880 Bauer has 2 more starts (the only "candidate" that does) so he has an extra chance to impress the voters.
  14. From Jeff Passan today https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29940841/passan-final-week-mlb-never-seen-beforehttps://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29940841/passan-final-week-mlb-never-seen-before Who should win the NL Cy Young? Player A: 69 IP, 7-3, 2.22 ERA, 2.22 FIP, 11.48 K/9, 1.70 BB/9, 0.65 HR/9, 2.7 fWAR, 2.3 rWAR Player B: 65 IP, 4-4, 1.80 ERA, 3.15 FIP, 12.18 K/9, 2.22 BB/9, 1.25 HR/9, 2.2 fWAR, 2.5 rWAR Player C: 55 IP, 7-0, 1.96 ERA , 2.62 FIP, 8.18 K/9, 3.11 BB/9, 0.00 HR/9, 1.9 fWAR, 3.1 rWAR Player D: 63 IP, 4-2, 2.14 ERA, 1.99 FIP, 13.43 K/9, 2.29 BB/9, 0.71 HR/9, 2.7 fWAR, 2.4 rWAR Player E: 56 IP, 4-0, 1.77 ERA, 1.79 FIP, 13.34 K/9, 3.54 BB/9, 0.16 HR/9, 2.6 fWAR, 2.1 rWAR Player F: 65.1, 3-1, 2.07 ERA, 2.51 FIP, 12.26 K/9, 2.62 BB/9, 0.69 HR/9, 2.3 fWAR, 2.3 rWAR This is a lot to digest. Player A is Chicago's Yu Darvish, Player B Trevor Bauer, Player C Max Fried, Player D New York's Jacob deGrom, Player E Corbin Burnes and Player F San Diego's Dinelson Lamet.
  15. I'll give you credit for that interesting point and not Smoltz. If you watch the videos where he's mic'd he likes talking to the opposing team and his teammates so perhaps sitting in the dugout as the DH, stewing in the juices of yet another K, without the distraction of the fans or knowing his cute fiancee is somewhere in the building, isn't good for him.
  16. He is and if you look closely he has been since March. As someone who watched numerous spring games in person it was obvious that he was chasing and undercutting. He hit no spring HRs but you had to think that this would be noticed and fixed by July. It wasn't and still hasn't been. Whether Chili Davis is a good coach or not is unclear but Alonso needs a long break from baseball and being "Pete Alonso" to chill before he starts lifting and swinging again.
  17. Martino says that he will be back in some capacity as part of the Cohen regime: https://sny.tv/articles/source-sandy-alderson-likely-to-return-to-mets-as-part-of-new-ownership-grouphttps://sny.tv/articles/source-sandy-alderson-likely-to-return-to-mets-as-part-of-new-ownership-group
  18. Another 3 hour game. Time well spent!
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: So we've seen Will Smith and Chris Martin out of the pen so far. I'm thinking it'll be maybe Neil Diamond for the 9th As if he he wouldn't strikeout the side.
  20. Pete needs an off-season where he's drinking wine, barbecuing, spending time with his fiancee, and definitely not thinking about baseball.
  21. Dammit. So much for the rebirth of Familia. I hope that he's in someone else's familia next season. d'Arnaud hit a HR off Familia last night but Luis left him in to face him again in a big spot. Was Luis watching?
  22. The ATL pitcher had a 7 ERA before today and the Mets can't touch him.
  23. This is glorious. It would be even better if the Mets participated. At the 506.com message board they are trying to guess when each game will be played (that's what they do there). Here's one example, from "fathugo" (posted on Saturday afternoon) which I am providing only to show how much baseball there will be (here's hoping that the Mets replace the Reds for the 8th slot): [bLOCKQUOTE]September 29th Indians @ White Sox 2:00 ABC Blue Jays @ Rays 4:00 ESPN Astros @ A's 7:00 ESPN Twins @ Yankees 7:00 TBS September 30th Cardinals @ Braves 12:00 ESPN Blue Jays @ Rays 1:00 ESPN2 Phillies @ Cubs 2:00 ABC Marlins @ Padres 3:30 ESPN Indians @ White Sox 5:00 ESPN2 Reds @ Dodgers 7:00 ESPN Twins @ Yankees 7:00 TBS Astros @ A's 10:00 ESPN October 1st Blue Jays @ Rays 12:00 ESPN (If Necessary) Cardinals @ Braves 1:00 ESPN2* Indians @ White Sox 2:00 ABC (If Necessary) Phillies @ Cubs 3:30 ESPN Marlins @ Padres 5:00 ESPN2 Reds @ Dodgers 7:00 ESPN Twins @ Yankees 7:00 TBS (If Necessary) Astros @ A's 10:00 ESPN (If Necessary) *Cardinals/Braves can move to either 12:00 ESPN or 2:00 ABC if there are no game 3 in those slots, with ABC at 2:00 getting priority. 24. Suck it, Smoltz. Let's get them again tomorrow.
  25. You see that? Other teams are dumb, too. Down 5, a lead-off walk and the next batter swings at the 1st pitch.
