  1. 5 run 7th innings are fun. I've seen several level swings producing opposite field hits today. I like it.
  2. I have a three hour phone meeting this afternoon that could have easily been an email. I'm going to try to keep my attention on the game...my first of the spring.
  3. I wish they wouldn't - but I'm pretty sure they will. I'm hoping that they'll limit it to no more than 12 home games and that they will have some purpose in choosing the games. They could wear them against Arizona and have a 1999 NLDS night. They could wear them a couple of time against the Braves and have a Grand Slam Single night and a Piazza post-9/11 HR night. Invite back old players and have matching promotions...John Olerud mini-helmet giveaways and the like. I'd prefer they never wear them on the road. And if they do it, I hope they only do it for this season. I'll be disappointed if they go back to randomly wearing a dozen different uniform combos for no reason.

  5. I think the media and fans are making more out of what a Bauer/Stroman teammate relationship would have been like. But the crux of whatever "feud" they seemingly had on Twitter seemed to revolve around race. Like many these days, Bauer seems to revel in being a douchebag and provocateur. It seems to me that Bauer is much more likely to not act like an adult and professional. There is a difference between not agreeing with the views of someone on the team and being an African American having to deal with a teammate who may constantly spout racial and political views hoping to incite a reaction.

  8. I'm tired of the days when they field an 85-win team on paper, take them into the start of the season and then (maybe) upgrade at the deadline depending on health, depth, etc. I was hoping that was a Wilpon thing. I'd really like to go into the season with a team I was really confident in. Honestly, 2006 was the last time I was extremely confident in an Opening Day roster. The team as is could make a lot of noise, but I agree there are holes that may lead to stumbles if not addressed.

He would've been eaten alive in NYC and it would have been embarrassing for all. The Athletic article in question was an editorial from a female reporter pointing out what Bauer didn't say at his Dodger intro that she wishes he would have.

  13. Same with the White Sox. If the over/under is 83 wins for them, I'd bet on them to beat it.

  15. 100% OK with him going to LA.
  16. I saw all I needed from Mickey when I saw him hunting sharks with Matt Harvey and Don Jr. Not that I thought he was a harassing creep at the time, but on a personal level he and I probably have very little in common.
  17. There's a pretty long and detailed story behind the paywall. No dick pics, but unwanted advances toward multiple women in multiple cities while he was with multiple clubs. The Mets, when contacted by The Athletic, said that in August 2018 – about 10 months after Callaway joined the organization – the team learned of an incident that took place before it hired him. The team investigated that matter, a spokesperson said, but declined to reveal the nature of the incident, the outcome of that probe or whether Callaway was disciplined. Callaway continued managing the rest of the season. Creepy stuff.

  19. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=55110 time=1611930285 user_id=68] I took another look at Matz's numbers from his 2015 debut season because I remembered him as being terrific his rookie year and that terrific-ness is what maintained my patience with him for just about his entire Mets tenure up until sometime last season. And I noticed that he only started six games in 2015, pitching about 35 innings. In fact, I think he was injured even in his rookie year, missing like three or four starts. So all this confidence in Matz over such a small sample size. Maybe he was never that good and simply capitalized on his opponents' initial lack of familiarity with Matz. Who knows?
  20. Great thread title. Yeah, I've seen Cohen's investment toward Melvin labelled incorrectly as a "bailout" in many places on the interwebs. I believe Steve expects a nice return.
  21. He seemed to take over the Jon Niese role of staff lefty who had flashes of goodness, but had a hard time getting out of his own head. They would both get frustrated when outings went south, which too many times led to things getting out of control and giving up too many runs.
