1. I joined late, too, but his response about calling out teammates who broke Covid protocol was really thoughtful and something I'd wanna hear out of my neighbors, let alone a pro athlete.
2. Lunchbucket mentioned him another thread, and the last couple of days have yielded reports claiming that the Mets have talked to the Cubs about Bryant, with the Cubs seemingly eager to shed his salary. I mean, why the hell not, right? Well, he's 29, set to make $18.6M this year and a FA the next. He has a world of talent but a bunch of injuries lately. If the deal is right, I could fancy him as a one-year rental.
3. I go for that. And it would leave some bucks behind to fill out the rest of the roster. FWIW - I fully understand the Mets saying they won't go over the CBT threshold. Why would they announce to the world if they were fine with going over? If it comes down to getting the dude or dudes they want and it takes exceeding the CBT to do it, I fully expect them to.
4. Mets sign utility infielder Brandon Drury to a minor league deal. My recollection of him was much better than the story his baseball card numbers tell. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/01/mets-sign-brandon-drury-to-minor-league-deal.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/01/mets-sign-brandon-drury-to-minor-league-deal.html
5. I do think we need a 3B, but Turner is asking for 4 years and I'd be afraid to give him 2. Tormund is already 36. I think yesterday's trade dampened the chance of Springer landing. I don't know who is a competent righty CF out there, but I'd be trying to find one of those, a lefty reliever (Brad's Left Hand will do), and maybe another SP.
6. =Centerfield post_id=53569 time=1610126024 user_id=65] This bro spent a week in the US and was like yeah I'm good.
7. Some Mets fan with a YouTube channel tells us all about what kind of people Francisco Lindor and Cookie Carrasco are.
8. Carrasco had a pretty amazing (and inspiring) return to play after battling leukemia. I'm really excited to watch him in our uni this year.
9. The Mets twitter has it available for re-watch.
10. Porter seemed to repeat himself a lot, but I loved hearing what he had to say. Never content, will always be trying to upgrade, and his #1 hit "creative and opportunistic".
11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: When Valentine heard what the Mets were giving up in the Alomar trade he asked "What's wrong with him?" (meaning Alomar) New York's a tough city to acclimate to. If only Alomar had had some decent neighbors to make him feel at home...
12. Sandy and Jared going live at 3 eastern to give us the low-down.
13. Is it too early for the Opening Day IGT, I need to see this lineup
14. =LWFS post_id=53446 time=1610042159 user_id=84] AND we keep Dom Smith! Nimmo, too! AND we're still likely in on Springer and Hand and more pitching help... MY COUNTRY IS BROKEN BUT MY BASEBALL TEAM IS A BURGEONING DEATH STAR
15. It is both. Final trade, per Rosenthal. Heck yes, Mets!
16. Rosario heading to Cleveland, per Mayo. So Gimenez and Rosario, huh?
17. And Cookie. Holy shit, I don't know what we're giving up, but what a get.
18. Carrasco, too?! WTF is happening
19. Holy shit, that's true! Pete LaCock is actually from the goddamn San Fernando Valley!
20. Pete LaCock does look like the handsome, little-known 4th Brady Bunch brother who had to break out of the family life and the burbs and ended up in the San Fernando Valley shooting porn in the back of really sweet vans.
21. You know Dick Pole from Dick Pole Plumbing will show up in the third act to "unclog those stubborn pipes". https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fph0wu-ieUg/WpvXkyRaqeI/AAAAAAAANo8/D0J0iKxK2U0YQqsVeTbOLMfcxEOvimvzQCLcBGAs/s320/1977-MARINERS-DO-OVER-DICK-POLE.jpg>

And as with so many late-career reclamation projects, who you go for or don't go for may be too dependent on which days you happen to be scouting him, from which it's hard to gauge how many times through the rotation his arm is going to respond. You don't want to miss an opportunity in signing such a guy, but you sure want to be in a position where you have to go into the season depending on him for anything. Yeah, I think you nailed it and Rich Hill strikes me as this kinda guy. Still very good when he's on the hill, but if you get 120 innings out of him, you're probably thrilled. Kluber (or Paxton) as one of 7 or 8 starters intrigues me, though.
23. =Centerfield post_id=53320 time=1609951141 user_id=65] How healthy are each of these guys now?
24. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/01/mets-notes-kluber-paxton-coaches.htmlMLBTR sez the Mets are keeping tabs on Corey Kluber and James Paxton. Klubes will be 35 and 3 years removed from his last bit of dominance, in 2018. Paxton just turned 32 and was last good in 2019. Kluber won 2 Cy Youngs and was a top-shelf, #1 ace guy for 5 years. He's had shoulder woes, but as a big-spin guy, he hasn't really lost much velo. Paxton lost 3 full ticks off his big fastball last year, which probably helped shape his 6+ ERA. He still averaged 11 K/9 but this dude is always injured. Do either/both of these dudes interest you? I'm a little gun-shy on formerly talented dudes who lost big velocity, but both of these guys are better than Porcello and Wacha were. I think Kluber as a depth signing would be wonderful.
25. Baseball Prospectus 2020 commentary on Trevor Bauer heading into the 2020 season (player comments are typically at least one paragraph long): "For all the coverage concerning Bauer, we now have a lot of data - 1,117 innings worth - suggesting he's a mid-rotation starter. " Bauer's a little like McCann, though, in that his best work is his most recent work. ‘18 and ‘20 are top-of-the-rotation numbers. His behavior seems to be mid-rotation for sure.
