  1. I've felt each of those damning emotions at various points today with no Met game on tap and my schedule and routine in disarray. What the hell kinda shirt is that guy wearing under the tie?
  2. ]Maybe he can find a way to find a happy medium betewen the characters of Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter. That's not too much to ask, is it? Is it? It don't know if it's too much to ask for, but it's not too much to hope for anyway. But the perception I get with Wright is that he'd score very low on the FoS (Full of Shit) Meter. Sure, he's polite and nice and says the right things in the media, but he doesn't come across as a phony like it sounds like Garvey really did, and ARod sometimes does. I guess you could say that you never know someone's full of shit until you find out they're full of shit, but I get a feeling of genuineness out of him.
  3. That is some great writing by James (I love the contented cow line), but all early accounts of Wright through tv or radio interviews, printed quotes, chartible acts off the field, etc., point to a real grounded, humble, down-earthiness that seems to not be present in Wally, Brian, or the Garvey James describes. Wright's only 23 (I think I was working my last year at Pizza Hut at 23) so there's plenty to worry about if you think about it long enough, but I think a lack of humility and a complete absence of any self-doubt would not be among those things.
  4. Nicely done. Minor brain flap: ]Last year, Chris Woodward and Miguel Cabrera played third as Mets for the first time. It wasn't a story that the tally of Met third sackers had reached 131. Even Cabrera can't take the job from Wright.
  5. TransMonk wrote: Olson was apparently upset at Cabrerra's "error" and made some gesture or comment on the field. Cabrerra took offense that he was upset. Holy moly! I saw Olsen glaring at him after the error. Didn't know he was involved in the shoving. Thanks for the recap!
  6. I have the Met game on mute and saw some shoving in the Marlins dugout. Who and what?
  7. I don't know about bitching. Probably more like Glavine's a 40-year old guy and pitching on Sunday would make him unavailable to throw on Tuesday, so fill his spot. Capuano's been great and deserves it. Good for him.
  8. Marty Noble supplied the quote in a Mets.com article today and said the quote was provided "in typical clubhouse sarcasm." I agree Lima Time wouldn't find it as funny, though.
  9. ]"David should get Jose to throw to him... he'd win for sure." - Anonymous teammate suggesting Jose Lima should throw David Wright's BP at the All-Star Game's Home Run Derby, 7/8/06 Zinger.
  10. Blacked out of both games by MLB.TV. That's horse shit, man.
  11. Some more great quotes from the Post after Cliff's HBP: ] "I don't want to tell you what I really think. He is very dramatic." - Willie Randolph ] "He's like one of those European soccer players, just falling all over the ground. I thought he was dead at first." - David Wright And the best... ] "Willie was trying to grab it... I was like, 'Why are you grabbing it for? What's wrong with you?' "- Cliff Floyd when Willie Randolph checked on his forearm after he'd been plunked
  12. ]CBS Sportsline isnt a bad way to watch--if you have to and dont mind reading the game. Its amazingly quick time wise (most of the time) Game is on FOX. Thanks, Z. I've moved on to France/Brazil. Go Mets.
  13. And MLB.TV blacks me out now. Great.
  14. That's nice, Zvon, but not sensational enough. Headline of tomorrow's fictional LA Post: Brother F**ker! Jared Up, Jeff Out Of Work, Mom Heartbroken!
  15. Wow. Christmastime at the Weaver household's gonna be awkward this year.
  16. Great job with 2 months notice, even better with like, 2 hours. I don't pay much attention to the Yankees, but it seems like if we hear the names Proctor, Beam, or Matt Smith boom over the PA, then we're probably doing okay. LGM.
  17. There's a lot of really ugly half-swings against Lester tonight. Awful news about Gammons. I hope he gets okay and gets there quickly. I always liked his stuff and dug how he'd drop cool alt-rock references in his pieces. Gammo jammin' with Buffalo Tom:
  18. Stewart was great. I got a laugh when he complimented what they're doing with SNY, but the game's on WB11 today. Kudos to the interviewer for avoiding the trap of trying to be funny like the funny guy he's interviewing.
  19. Is that some sped-up house version of the Beverly Hills Cop theme song blasting over the PA?
  20. Odalis Update: Odalis Perez garnered press recently for retaking his starting spot from Jae Seo. That's not all he was recognized for. Here's this snippet from Dodger Blues' Asshole of the Moment feature: ]It was reported on Saturday by the Press-Telegram that since losing his starting spot, Odalis Perez has also stopped his O’s 45’s program, where he bought 45 tickets for inner-city school children to attend his starts. He said he wouldn't re-instate the program now that he's starting because he felt he never got enough credit for his charitable contributions. “When you spend your own money, you want to be recognized for that,” Perez said. “I don’t want to be a hero, but just pay more attention to what I’m doing. People don’t want to give me the recognition for it.” You want recognition, Odalis? Well, we all recognize that you're a dickhead. How's that?
  21. ]"If you play against A.J., you hate him; if you play with him, you hate him less." Great quote. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for ol' AJ.
  22. Have everyone in your group on high foul ball alert. Edit: And I'm Tony Tarasco. I meant "high", like elevated.
  23. Mackey Sasser (remember him?) was on the juice!
  24. David Weathers recently felt numbness in his arm and missed a week to what ended up being tendinitis. His old closer job now belongs to Todd Coffey, who apparently also refers to Weathers as "Stormy". ]"If that's the way they feel, that's fine by me," said Coffey. "If Stormy comes in or (Kent) Mercker comes in, that's fine by me, too. Either one of those guys would be good in that situation."
  25. Even Fonzie's UMDB link has seen better days. When things are bad, they're bad. Edit: The Fonzie link was bad but now it's, bah, nevermind.
