But it was still funny (mostly), was built around a very good story, and some of the performances were awesome. Ellen Page and Jason Bateman were great. Garner and Janney kicked ass, too. George Michael may be a one-trick pony right now, but his one trick is damn funny and endearing. I've listened to the soundtrack now and think some of the songs (I'm thinking mostly of that Kimya Dawson girl) were quirky and just the kind of shit a 16-year old girl would latch on to. That's all. And some of the music is pretty cool anyway. The Kinks, the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and "Piazza New York Catcher" by Belle and Sebastian. That's a good soundtrack, people. You guys need to lighten up or something. Swear to blog. The important question is....You watch Gilmore Girls?!? Like you don't? Nah, I used to work for Warner Bros. and the WB Network. Saw lots of that show at work.

  4. Best Foreign Film at the Spirit awards yesterday. Seen it a couple times now and still just love it.
  5. Moistest Alou is a winner. Nicely done.

  7. *bump* Would like to talk about some of these now.
  8. Registration's open. If we're doing this thing again, maybe someone should sign up so we can get a good draft day/time.
  9. The soundtrack's really, really good. The versions of the songs are fuller in production than they appear in the movie, but they're no less beautiful. Here's that Academy Award nominated tune performed on a sidewalk in Utah apparently.
  10. Getting lots of nice reviews from Sundance. The story of a Dominican ballplayer trying to make in American pro baseball. IMDB. Review. Might be hard to find, but might be worth the look.
  11. I completely dug this movie. I have 3 Frames albums and mostly like them, but I really, really love this guy singing with this chick. I thought it was a perfect, little ending and you can't beat "Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy". Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
  12. Yeah, I completely dug this movie. Great usage of "vag" throughout.
  13. Deleted for a reason.
  14. Funny movie. I loved all the dudes from Freaks and Geeks. I find that I'm also fond of that Kristin Wigg chick from SNL.
  15. Based on the non-fiction book of the same name, the film chronicles the 2 plus year journey of a college graduate from an affluent, but dysfunctional east coast family who gives up all his money and possessions to travel to Alaska in search of peace and some kind of enlightenment, all the while living off the land, his own will and determination, and the kindness of peeps he meets along the way. Stars Emile Hirsch (the kid who falls for the porn star in "The Girl Next Door") and is directed by Sean Penn. The outstanding soundtrack, as mentioned in the NBF, is by Eddie Vedder. I saw it tonight and thought it rocked.

  17. Had fun in the league this year, but a few things I didn't get. One, why so many active offensive dudes? Looks like the idea was going for a realistic 25-man roster, but 4 outfielders and 2 utility is pretty softball-ish. I don't know if that's the default way fantasy baseball is done, but 4 infielders, (edit here), 1 catcher, 3 outfielders, and one Util (DH) would seem more realistic to me, be more restrictive, and would present tougher choices requiring more brain power from all of us. Pitching's a little tougher, but I think the setup now is pretty good. The IP cap makes you really figure out what stats you want to go after. Second, why the long period for waiver transactions to be finalized? Wouldn't 24 or even 48 hours be more than sufficient? Same with the trade veto thing. Is it even needed? And if so, why 3 days? Regardless, it was cool playing and I wish my all-NL team would've come through for me. Bah. Signed, Curmudgeonly in California.
  18. Career high 11 K's in 8 shutout innings last night, his 1-0 gem saved by Carlos Muniz. Kevin Mulvey and his cartoon superhero chin:
  19. Cool story. Cool wifey. Go Tim.
  20. Vic Sage wrote: i'm already clearing a space on my mantel... thanks, folks. I'm going to cherish it forever. well, for a few minutes, anyway. Talk about reverse jinxes. Poor Vic lost like 20 points within a half hour of typing this message.
  21. Vic- Who's the chick smiling at me from your avatar? I'm quite sure I've seen pics of you wearing a beard. Have you gone Victoria Sage on us?
  22. So Tipperarymets is metsirish. DL AllStars -> metsmarathon. P-Funk AllStars -> Roblatt Fairfield Stags -> Steve J Flying Dutchman - Steve J's homeboy, right? Farney Farm?? I think that one changed after the draft. Who's that again?
