  1. I'd always thought that the Lyme-carrying ticks were only in the northeast and midwest, but I was wrong.
  2. Mike Vail. 23 game hitting streak. $34.17 share.
  3. When Bill Brasky and Chuck Norris get together, they talk about Lucas Duda.

Murphy backpedals far enough for a fly ball hit over his head that he crashes entirely through the right field wall, sustaining fatal head injuries. M2dR36mTkyo .305/.345/.450. Lots of line drive singles dumped over the shortstop's head. Plenty of doubles, too. Adequate defense at 2B. Is still a Met on October 1.
  5. I think Edgy's trivia question remains unanswered. But, since you asked, Randy Johnson?
  6. Toilet House did have some really good years, but I'm gonna guess Bob Gibson. OE - checked BBRef and Toilet House had 10 in 1985, so he beats Gibby.
  7. Vic Sage wrote: with a good glove and decent speed, he'll be our 4th OFer, spelling each of our LHed starting OFers from time to time. If he could spell Nieuwenhuis, now that would be something.

  9. Good luck, Mr. Gorski.

You're not human if it doesn't bother you." --- Mike Pelfrey I remember that, and it really pissed me off; I made a point of giving both of them a nice hand. If you're gonna boo them, at least wait until they actually make an out/give up some runs.
  11. Keef was also a one-position man as a Met, but played five games in left field and two in right for the Cardinals. He never DHed in his career, which surprised me. Mark Grace - 2,245 games. One inning as an emergency pitcher for Arizona. One game at the end of his career as a DH, also for Arizona. OE - Hernandez' entire career was pre-interleague, and he only played one season in the AL. So not all that surprising that he never DHed. D'oh.

Dickey's first basiness, given that he's never played there in an actual game. Jim Bouton's coaching nemesis, Eddie O'Brien, was an infielder in 1953, 1955 and 1956, and started a game as pitcher in 1957.
  13. Made the first putout in Camden Yards. Jack Heidemann. I want to know about Jack Heidemann.
  14. Every organization has to do what it feels is in its best interest, and I have no doubt that thats what the Mets did by trading Josh Thole, Mike Nickeas and me for two young players who, by all accounts, are terrific prospects. It doesnt make saying goodbye any easier. Wuilmer Becerra just called. And he's pissed.

  16. Mets Willets Point wrote: He was great. He was the best thing about the Mets for the past three years. Now he's gone like every other thing I've ever loved about the Mets. Anything anyone ever loves about any team is temporary. Baseball gods willing, one day we'll have a thread where we discuss D'Artagnan's HOF induction and concurrent number-retiring ceremony. In addition to being great on the mound, he was probably the Mets' best hitting pitcher since Mike Hampton. A skill that will go for naught in Toronto. I saw him pitch at Nats Park against Strasburg in July 2010, when Strasburg starts were known locally as "Strasmas" and you still had to explain to non-New Yorkers what an "R. A. Dickey" was. Dickey outpitched Strasburg through six. Parnell and Frankie blew the game. And he had a name that turned us all into Fmen. I'll miss the puns. Even the really dumb ones.
  17. Took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in an early season day game in 2008. I was working in NYC that day instead of my usual Jersey office, following along on Gameday, and trying to figure out what bar I'd meet a friend to celebrate when Pelfrey got the 27th out. Then it all went to hell. Nationals 1, Mets 0. And, yeah. Nothing wrong with groupie chick at all.
  18. Ceetar wrote: I wouldn't be unhappy if it falls through. I'm certainly not excited for prospects. I get that it..probably..makes the Mets better as soon as maybe 2014..but that's a ways away. The Mets could keep Dickey, sign every single free agent still on the market, and trade away every prospect in the system for established major league talent, and they still wouldn't match up well against the Braves or the Nationals in 2013. So I'm all in favor of planning now for 2014 or even 2015. Prospects are high risk, high payoff. So get as many good ones as you can, and count on the law of averages - the two or three stars will more than make up for all the ones that don't pan out.
  19. GUZ - Grass Ultimate Zone - UZR, on grass only.
  20. I'm not a fan of using WAR as a metric, but what surprised me about BBRef is that it gave Thole a 1.1 defensive WAR for last season. Joe Mauer hasn't ever had a defensive WAR greater than 1 in a season. Buster Posey hasn't done it yet, either. Yadier Molina gets high scores, but the other Molina brothers have only had three dWAR > 1 seasons between them. If Nickeas really is worse than replacement level, there should be a free agent that we can sign for the major league minimum who would be an improvement. So, sure, no reason not to do that. But I wouldn't want to give up a player of potential value for any of the available catchers we've been discussing in this thread.
