Don't think I've ever seen a runner score from first on a single.

I was working and traveling today and missed the disasters. But, wow. Day game tomorrow. I understand our man in Michigan is making the three hour trip from Grand Rapids. i'm on the bus from LaGuardia to Astoria as I post this. My GF has a Zoom class tomorrow night and is booting me out of the apartment from 7-10. Anyone want to join me for a beer, send over a PM.

Boox. I had a vague feeling of impending doom that whole bottom of the ninth.

DUGOUT LIPS PART OF DIGITAL DOMINATION No comment I could make can possibly do more for this slide than it does on its own.

Mets gloves are definitely not ready for prime time yet. Showalter is managing this game. Don't know if he's going to travel to tonight's game or if one of the coaches will handle the managerial duties against the Marlins.

Kessinger's grandson ties it up with a double to left.

Billy Wagner's son is in ST for the 'Stros. A position player, but I'm not paying close enough attention to notice what position.

The largest effect might be from the new rule that limits the pitcher to two pickoff throws before throwing a pitch. It could just be that Alvarez is catching. And the Mets' stolen base was from Tim Locastro, who isn't in the org for any reason except to steal bases. The game is definitely quicker. But I never saw the previous pace as a problem.

Top of the third and 3 stolen bases in the game so far. The new rules look like they're having an effect.

And now a Batyboot allows some guy on the Astros to reach base. Take the bad with the good is going to be a theme at 3B for a while.

Batyboom! Is it "BAY-tee" or "batty"? I'm watching the Astros feed on MLB.tv. Don't think it's on SNY

2B Jason Kipnis, who was to saxophones at Progressive Field what Edwin Diaz is to trumpets at Citi. https://fox8.com/sports/thank-you-baseball-jason-kipnis-announces-retirement/https://fox8.com/sports/thank-you-baseball-jason-kipnis-announces-retirement/

Wouldn't it have been easier to list the teams he didn't play for?

Thinking it's someone who isn't thought of as a great pitcher. Livan Hernandez had a fine career and could hit. Not sure he lasted 17 seasons, but he's my guess.

My memory was that I thought he was a pretty good pitcher. I dunno. The frequent arm trouble seems more than bad luck and the subpar September performance was too consistently off from the usual DeGrominance to be chalked up to statistical anomaly. My wild guess, which is pretty bad but no worse than anyone else's, is that at best he has three strong seasons left in him, and $185M is way too much to pay for three strong seasons. Sucks to lose him, but that contract can turn into an albatross. Justin Verlander has to be a very happy man right about now.
