  1. Sheffield to DL with torn wrist ligament. According to ESPN, he will attempt to rehab through physical therapy rather than surgery. Article: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2466987
  2. Vizcaino and Strawberry come to mind.
  3. The funny thing is when they show people in the crowd wanting to show their support for the team, but realizing how silly they look. No one, no matter who they are, can look cool clapping their hands to that beat.
  4. Did you guys see what Mussina did last night? With his team up 6-0, Torre let Mussina try to get the shutout. Mussina lost it with 2 outs and Torre moved to come out of the dugout. Mussina yells at his manager to "Stay right there!" Torre backs off, and puts up 2 hands as if to say "no offense intended". I'm all for gamers and all that, but I think I draw the line at showing up your manager. Here's to hoping one day Mussina tries that with Bobby Cox or Frank Robinson. Also, although I missed this, I guess the Tigers intentionally walked A-Rod with the Yanks up by 6. My MFY-fan friend: "so funny last night the yanks were up 6 and they intentionally walked arod. they know arod will hit one out in that spot."
  5. It's not often that an IGT reaches the 8th inning on the first page, then continues on for another 5. Did you guys hear Keith talking about how fast the game was going? He was practically giddy.
  6. That was a great post Vic. I wish I could have summarized my thoughts so succinctly. The only thing I would add is that it is unbelievable the extent Bonds is vilified while others, who have a much stronger link to steroids (Caminiti, Canseco, Palmeiro, Giambi, Sheffield) are given much less blame in comparison. It is shameful that the Post would refer to Bonds as the "Shambino" while glorifying Giambi and Shef.
  7. Maybe I've been influenced by Madden's article, but it seems like the Mets think Milledge's attitude could use a little adjustment. Gary and Keith were talking about how the guys on the team were talking to him about conducting himself in a way that doesn't upset other players...and in the post-game, Willie made it a point to say that Milledge's error could help in "keeping him humble". Am I reading too much into this? Maybe there is something, though it may be minor, there. Here's my take on the guy...there is something dislikeable about him. And it is more glaring considering how likeable the rest of the team is. He has a completely different aura about him than Wright, or Reyes, or the other young guys on this team. The first thing I noticed was on Tuesday night, he didn't bust it on a ground ball. Now, it was a sure out, but he was taking it about 3/4 speed down the baseline. For a veteran, I wouldn't have thought twice, but for a kid playing his first major league game, it was surprising. I would have expected a kid to go all out, even if he hit it directly to the first baseman standing on the bag. Secondly, there is something about the way he carries himself that leads me to think he is too cocky, but at the same time, insecure. In any case, I realize he is very young, and if there is any team that will put him in his place and show him how to conduct himself with class, it is this team. I hope Floyd makes him carry his bags like he did with David Wright.
  8. Martinez 6 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 Valentin 1 Chavez 1
  9. Maddux, Glavine, Pedro and El Duque? Wow, 1999 is going to be great year for the Mets! If only we had held onto Lima!
  10. Maddux sounds good to me. He should have a few more wins on the season. He's had his bullpen blow up on him a few times. What gets it done? I'm assuming Bannister and Diaz aren't enough.
  11. Speaking of Rookie Cards: http://www.homeruncards.com/rookiecards/mets-rookies.shtml Click on the link, if for nothing else, to see Cliff Floyd's picture on his rookie card.
  12. Good point. It would seem there are enough chips there to bring in someone who could fit in towards the front end of the rotation.
  13. Funny. I had a baseball card experience this weekend as well. We went to visit my parents, who are doing some extensive renovation. They had moved some stuff out to the garage and I shrieked in horror when I realized that one of the things they had moved were a box of my old baseball cards. After rescuing the box, I looked through my binder full of cards I thought were good enough to be stored in plastic. There were a couple of future hall of famers there (Puckett, Gwynn, Rickey, etc). But there were also quite a few who didn't quite pan out. (Ben McDonald, Matt Nokes, Kevin Maas, Eric Anthony). I was thinking I probably wouldn't have made a very good scout. To top things off, I looked through some of the piles I had dumped into shoeboxes...cards that I deemed not worthy of preservation. And promptly found the rookie cards of a few nobodies named Glavine and Smoltz. And some lanky Expos pitcher named Johnson. I have 18 Gregg Jefferies rookie cards.
  14. A-Fraud: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/060530
  15. ]Xavier should be able to resume baseball activities in 7-10 days. That is encouraging. Good luck to Nady and Milledge.
  16. I feel like I'm in some twilight zone here. I'm eager to see what Milledge will bring to the table as well, and I am happy the kid is making his major league debut, but I don't see how you guys can be happy when we just lost our 3rd leading HR hitter for an indefinite period of time.
  17. This is bad news. Nady had been a pleasant surprise. I hope he gets back quickly.
  18. LoDuca 3 Chavez 2 Floyd 1 Valentin 1 Wright 1 Reyes 1 Sanchez 1
  19. Where is Victor Diaz?
  20. Before I forget, Piniella was not only an awful broadcaster, he revealed such flawed strategy it's hard to believe he was a big league manager. I remember the M's wanted a pretty significant compensation package for him. I'm glad they decided not to give it to them.
  21. Cubs have 4 in in the 9th to tie the Braves. Still in the 9th, 2 out, winning run on first.
  22. What's the latest word?
  23. 2 of 3 from the Yanks and Phils. I was hoping for more, but I will take that. I'm looking forward to frying some fish this weekend.
