  1. Reyes leadoff double. Let's get 'em back boys.
  2. You know, Mike and the Dog are better than I thought they'd be.
  3. I will be happy when Jeremi Gonzalez is no longer on this team.
  4. Gwreck wrote: Stat of the day: the Mets have never lost when Jeremi Gonzalez starts. And yet they've lost Pedro's last three outings. Maybe we're bumping the wrong guy from the rotation.
  5. "Sweep the Phils. Do you have a problem with that Mr. Randolph?"
  6. That's an interesting theory. To take it one step further, you could make the argument that a trade can't fully be evaluated until you've taken into account the careers of any and all compensatory draft picks granted as a result of losing someone involved in the trade. By that token, Roger Cedeno and Octavio Dotel for one year of Mike Hampton may or may not seem like a good trade, but Roger Cedeno and Octavio Dotel for one year of Mike Hampton and David Wright is clearly a winner for the Mets.
  7. I meant to give my thoughts on this but forgot. It was a fun read, certainly a quick read, perfect for commutes etc. Reilly has a very enjoyable, witty writing style that does not get old even over the course of a full-length novel. (By comparison, I tried reading Bill Simmons' book and couldn't get through the first few chapters). Basically, the book is about Rick Reilly caddying for guys like Jack Nicklaus, John Daly, Casey Martin, Donald Trump, Tom Lehman, David Duval and others. It's funny, informative, and at times even touching and inspirational. I recommend it...even if you don't know anything about golf.
  8. I think the foolishness of that claim was demonstrated long before yesterday. By cutting their losses, they became slightly less foolish in my eyes.
  9. Although I would rather have Benson than Hernandez, I am happy about this trade because I would rather have Hernandez than Julio. I have criticized the Mets about not realizing their mistake and cutting losses. Something it looks like they were willing to do here. Benson for Julio was a mistake. Everyone can see that. But rather than keep throwing Julio out there hoping he'll get better and justify the trade, they sold high (or at least, they believe they sold high) and got a serviceable starter. I like the deal.
  10. Hearing the trade rumor that we were going to trade Benson for him and thinking "Who?", then looking him up, realizing he sucked and thinking, "Well, I don't see that trade happening."
  11. Like I said, El Duque is no longer what he was, but considering who have been throwing out there, he is an improvement. And considering what he gave up for him, it's a great deal. I was resigned to an Odalis Perez or Chan Ho Park or some other cumbersome contract. El Duque only adds about $2 million to payroll. I still think we need a #3...but at least no more Jeremi Gonzalez.
  12. That's amazing. I mean, not that El Duque is what he used to be, or even that good anymore for that matter, but Julio flat out stunk. I wonder if the D-Backs are interested in purchasing my broken VCR I've been meaning to throw away.
  13. The part I wondered about, and I don't know if this makes any difference or not, but why did LoDuca has his mask on? I've never seen a catcher leave it on before.
  14. Maybe instead of having stupid facial hair rules, Willie could make some useful ones, like no more diving into first base. Or no more dropping the ball on plays at the plate. The weird thing is that first base is the only base Beltran slides into headfirst. He goes to every other base feetfirst.
  15. This was a fabulous game. However, in the midst of this great win, I think it's important to focus on the Mets allowing 8 runs to begin with. Like Friday night, this win was fun, but unless this pitching gets turned around, this team won't be able to compete like this for long. The offense just can't score this many runs a night. Trachsel is being asked to be a #3, and I think tonight he demonstrated he is not up to it. Good start, bad start, ok start...this is what Trachsel is. If the Mets are serious about making a run this season, they need a starter to slot in ahead of Trachsel.
  16. Thanks guys.
  17. Sorry to start a new thread, but I can't find the old one. A few weeks ago, you guys were talking about a DVD set that was released with the '86 World Series games and Game 6 of the NLCS. It was multi-DVD set and I remember thinking I should pick it up. Do you guys have a link to this? I don't want to buy the wrong thing.
  18. Floyd is the guy we let off the hook in that rain-shortened game. Retribution time. Can't say enough about how important it will be to take Game 1 with the guys we have slotted to finish the series.
  19. Watched the Sox beat up on the Yanks and Phil's guys beat up on Vito. Good night.
  20. Email from my buddy who is an MFY Fan: did u see the yanks game last night.... of course arod hits a focking 2 run hr when they are down by 8 it's like automatic
