  1. They opened the roof in Arizona because they were sick of Beltran denting it. Beltran put Bank One out of business. If I were you, I wouldn't buy any Chase stock either. It wasn't Wilie's decision to remove Beltran from yesterday's game. To leave him in would have been a violation of the Geneva Convention. When facing Beltran, Webb refers to his sinker as his "riser".
  2. 70. Lastings Milledge's bat breaks Mariano Rivera's cutter in two. Cool.
  3. The problem with the blue cap these days is that it has that ridiculous orange dot that makes the damn thing look like a beanie. If they're going to go with the blue hat the majority of the time, they need to get rid of that damn dot.
  4. Three out of four is even better. Red Sox win Game 1 of a doubleheader on a Big Papi 3-Run walkoff in the ninth. They are however, getting pounded in the second game to prevent today from being a perfect day.
  5. Everyone with an effective change knows you go in with the changeup grip because it's easier to switch to a fastball then from a fastball to a change.Duh.
  6. Well, other than the fact that Ichiro is hitting 160 points higher, is among the league leaders in steals, and plays gold glove defense, they are practically identical.
  7. ="KC"]That and the rarified air? They should check his contact prescription too, maybe feed him more carrots. I can't believe no one has ever looked into this. You watch him for 5 minutes and he looks like a guy who is having trouble with his vision. It would suck if, during his flight to Colorado, Matsui discovers that the root of his problems was that he accidentally switched his right and left contact lenses three years ago. (There is a joke about Asians mixing up there R's and L's in there somewhere).
  8. For what it's worth, Colorado isn't out of it by any means. Only 4.5 back starting play today. Trades like this make me think of worst-case playoff scenarios. So far, I've got: 1. Rockies beat Mets in NLCS behind Kaz's HR in Game 7. 2. Julio throws 4 perfect innings as DBacks eliminate Mets in 13 innings. 3. Benson wins Games 1, 4 and 7 of World Series to lead O's past Mets.
  9. Does Marrero offer anything that Matsui doesn't? If we're going to be paying him anyway, it seems like we're only trading away upside...no matter how improbable or remote that upside may be. I guess at least it gets the negative energy away from the team. His struggles aside, I felt bad for Kaz...and it was really nice to see him smiling when he was producing earlier this year. I liked the guy...I wish he didn't suck. I hope he finds his swing in Colorado. Because if it ain't there, it ain't anywhere.
  10. I was really encouraged by El Duque's performance, but I feel like he gave up quite a few loud outs in this game. Not that I'm complaining of course, but I point that out to show that this type of performance, is probably not going to become the norm.
  11. In that poster, shouldn't Reyes be in his follow through?
  12. I don't know if this is the right place for it, but something Milledge did last night irked me a bit. It was on the play where he misjudged the ball, overran it, leaped, juggled, then caught the ball. All of that was fine, but as the ball went off his glove, Milledge located it, then instead of catching it, popped it from his glove into his bare hand. Again, not a big deal, but if you misplay a ball like that, you'd like to see the kid grab it with two hands on the rebound instead of pulling some fancy shit like that. If he had dropped it the ball by doing that crap, he would have been ripped. The fact that he pulled off that crap, doesn't make it a better play. Again, I don't know what it is about this kid, but he seems to find a way to rub people the wrong way.

  14. I don't know about his play-by-play, but Murcer is one of the few Yankee announcers I can stand. When he does color, he usually comes up with something interesting to say. He also, in my opinion, isn't blinded by incredible pro-Yankee bias like his partner Kay. No example really comes to mind, but if you listen enough, at some point, Kay will use a superlative to describe something Yankee, and Murcer will calmly point out just how wrong Kay is. In fact, I think I read something a while back that Murcer's frankness may lead to his time getting cut in Yankee broadcasts.
  15. Who was that fat guy wearing Jae Seo's uniform?
  16. I just wanted to say I don't think the Mets should trade for Odaliz Perez. G'nite all.
  17. ScarletKnight41 wrote: His IMDB profile also has his Shallow Hal credit, and points out that he shares a birthday with CF's kid. Cool. Ron Darling moving up my list of favorite people.
  18. Sometimes Carlos Delgado reminds me of Pedro Cerrano.
  19. How bad does Durham's pitcher feel knowing Randy Johnson hit a bird and it exploded, while the bird he struck later flew away on its own.
  20. Cabrera made a nice catch, no question about that, but you have to wonder what Damon was doing in this picture.
  21. I meant to mention this the other day...ESPN had a story on him where he agreed to pick up all the meals for all his teammates while he was with the club. He also donated a big screen TV, couches etc to re-do the locker room. I thought this was a pretty cool thing to do. Not that this changes the fact that he's a moose-fucking asshead.
  22. Milledge swings at a ball 8 feet out of the strike zone. Horrible job by Valentin not even driving in the runner on 3rd. This game reminds me of Sunday. Ugly, winnable, and will likely result in a loss. New Rule: No more throwing away potential double-play balls.
  23. Grady shoulda stuck with that Broxton dude. That guy's got too quick a trigger.
  24. I get the feeling those tack-on runs Heath Bell allowed are going to hurt.
