  1. Bobby Valentine's busy? Ok, call Joe McEwing. You're single, about to go on a date, and you need five Mets to be your "Queer Eyes".
  2. Darling Bass Green Bell Long

Even when I was smoking, it was after he went to sleep for the night and I would go outside to have my cigarette. I seldom get preachy, but I think smoking around kids is just blatantly irresponsible. Smoking is weird. When I'm craving one I curse myself for having quit, but when I'm not, quitting is one of the things I'm most proud of having done. Even though you didn't smoke in his presence, I bet you and your clothing smell better in general now that you've quit. Hey wait a second, I still have a bunch of sources of stink remaining, even without the cigarettes.

  5. Fantastic TM. He lives with his parents, which would be fine, except he's renovated the basement and calls it his own place. He claims to pay rent but he doesn't. In fact, his mom still does his laundry.
  6. Yutz
  7. ...that wears Jeter cologne. Other than being driven, what else can we expect from him?
  8. These memorial/honorary spots need to be more specific. On again, off again guys should be one category. Injuries that wipe out an entire season should be another. You should distinguish between your Cliff Floyds and your Mo Vaughns.
  9. Alou hurt now as per Metsblog.com.
  10. Fuck you Milledge. You got to play big league ball in New York at the age of 22. Everyone should have it so bad. I hope Pedro cleans his clock this year.
  11. "You see, Roger was a bit confused. At the time he was there, he believed that the party was the ball..."
  12. I think Delgado lost batspeed, and I don't think that comes back. Here's the thing though, if he's lost some batspeed, why not choke up? Or use a lighter bat? When he got a hold of one last year, they still went a mile. He just swung and missed too much.
  13. Who cares. They fucking lost.

There will never be a 100 percent vote. There will always be some writer who likes the attention, and will trot out some lame excuse. I remember one of the morons who didn't vote for Seaver said he just never votes for someone in their first year. I thought Ripken had an outside shot only because everyone loved the guy. Those writers should be immediately stripped of their vote.
  15. Someone ask him about throwing at Piazza while he's under oath.
  16. Michael Vick broke the law, Pedro did not. For me that's difference enough...though I think it's important to note that Pedro appears to have attended an event where Vick set up the whole operation. I think if Michael Vick got caught attending a dog-fight, he would still be gainfully employed. As far as from a moral standpoint, I don't get worked up over cruelty to animals because I simply don't understand or see any logic in our arbitrary definitions of cruelty. By our society's standards, dog-fighting, or cock-fighting is cruel, but it is perfectly legal to take a gun and shoot certain animals. People say hunting is different, because the animals are not tortured, but if I were an animal, I would think any sport where I'm unarmed and people are shooting at me would qualify as cruel. To make matters more complex, shooting deer, ducks, geese, rabbits, foxes etc. is perfectly ok so long as they are in season, but if anyone were to shoot a dog, that would be considered cruel. Making chickens fight each other is bad, but making horses run really fast to the point they break their legs and have to be put down is not. No one blinks when we eat cows, chicken and pigs, so long as they are killed humanely, but if one were to serve dog and cat burgers, people would flip out no matter how humanely they were killed. Mice are rodents and can be killed in traps, but hamsters and guinea pigs are pets. It all seems too arbitrary to me.
  17. I hate Clemens, but I'm skeptical about this evidence. Wouldn't it be possible for McNamee to take steroids, and mix it with Roger's blood that he might have had from legitimate injections? (cortisone, B12 etc.)
  18. I can't believe there is any question about retiring Piazza's number. In 1998, over 109 games, he hit .348, hit 23 HR's, and drove in 76. Those are great numbers. In '99 and '00 he had MVP-caliber years. In 2001 and 2002, he had very good numbers for any hitter, great numbers for a catcher (averages out to .290, 34.5 HR's, 96 RBI). He was hurt in 2003, and remained a productive player, albeit not a star, in 2004 and 2005. He was a perennial all-star, led the team to a World Series, and almost single-handedly rescued them from what had been nearly a decade of mediocrity. No one on this current team, or the 80's Mets or the '69 Mets had as much pressure to carry the team as Piazza did during '98 to '01. Take Piazza out of the picture and that team doesn't even come close to being in a pennant race...meaning there is no contender playing at Shea from 1990 to 2006.

I like the drop shadow. Hate the fucking orange dot.
  20. Wow, great post.

How would you like to be the front office executive sent to hammer out the Feliciano deal while the rest of the team bangs out one of the biggest deals in Mets history? Must suck to be Jeff Wilpon.
  22. Worried that they won't hammer out a deal. Worried that one of our four prospects will get hurt in a cab. Worried about failed physicals. Will remain worried until I see Santana smiling for photographers in a Met jersey.
  23. As an aside, I sure as hell hope we are keeping Guerra, Mulvey, Gomez and Humber completely covered in bubble-wrap during these 72 hours. We certainly can't have them taking any cabs.
