  1. The offense sucks. They are 22nd in runs scored in MLB. Our lineup has no one with an OPS in the 900's. Our clean up hitter is at .752, and it took an incredible surge (mostly after we were out of it) to even get it that high. Our #5 hitter (Duda) is at .716. Jason Bay is at .546. We are lucky Scott Hairston played over his head to an .805 OPS or else we really would have sucked. Even our feel good story at SS is under .700 in OPS. Murphy has a nice looking BA, but his OPS remains in the low .700's. I thought our pitching was pretty good but we are 19th in MLB in staff ERA. This is surprising. I thought we had a pretty good rotation and the bullpen has been solid lately. I'm surprised to see this. So to sum up, we have shitty hitters and below average pitchers. I think the staff is pretty close to being a playoff caliber staff, so maybe just re-stock some bullpen arms and we will be in good shape for 2013. The offense is miles away from being competitive.

Shameful is also appropriate. If the players are too young or were not here in NY then it's the organization's duty to teach them. Bring in Todd Zeile or any fan and let them tell the players what that meant to the city. Fred Wilpon was here. He has no excuse. I distinctly remember saying they would never forget. I'm starting to think Fred never got it in the first place. Over the years these asshat owners have been searching for a Mets tradition. Remember when they tried stealing Sweet Caroline? In 2001 Valentine, Ordonez, Franco, Zeile et al gave the Mets a great one. The best one in all of baseball. And they threw it away. Something that great and they just discarded it. It disgusts me. I am ashamed of this team. It boggles my mind that they can fuck up something this simple. It makes me believe that they will never accomplish something as complex as building a winning baseball team.
  3. Naked cheerleaders.
  4. I get this bad feeling that the Mets are going to suck for a long time.
  5. It's great to see the effect this has had on Wright. Maybe next year they can move in the fences another 100 feet and revive the career of Jason Bay.
  6. New month. Mets will be undefeated in August.
  7. We're never going to win again.
  8. We went yesterday. First time a tough loss felt like a perfect day at the ballpark. On Edit: Thanks Ceetar!
  9. The best part about afternoon wins is watching the encore on SNY at night. Me: Ok, I'll let you watch just one more inning before your shower. I have a feeling David Wright is going to hit a HR. Ryan: Really? I hope so, but - OMG DAD! HOW DID YOU KNOW? WOW!!!!
  10. I'm with you on this. Outside of Wright, they don't have a regular player even approaching an .800 OPS. Several missing pieces here. Of course, the Mets might one day remember they are a big market team and sign a free agent masher in the OF. That changes the game quite a bit. But if they are not planning to go this route, they've got a lot of holes to fill in. I'm about done with Murphy.
  11. Whatever happened to soupcan's "C"? Was he stripped of the title?
  12. Did Carter ever have a C on his jersey? I remember Keith did, but as far as I remember, they were co-captains...
  13. Backman's way off base here. This is not at all a disgrace to the Yankee family. Mariano Rivera electrifying his pool and accidentally killing little boys (when he was trying to kill puppies instead) was a disgrace to the Yankee family. Jim Leyritz drinking and driving and killing a young woman coming home from work was a disgrace to the Yankee family. Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, and Alex Rodriguez juicing up was a disgrace to the Yankee family. Reggie was just displaying every-day assholeish Yankee behavior.
  14. Crap. Sorry. RMPL.
  15. I guess this is a pretty good decision by Tony LaRussa. Cain is clearly the better pitcher here. I mean, if you ignore the fact that Dickey has more wins, fewer losses, a lower ERA, lower WHIP, and struck out more batters. Other than that Cain is clearly the better pitcher.
  16. I watch so many shitty games a year. I go away one long weekend and they do this.
  17. We are going to sweep these worthless armadillo fuckers.
  18. You guys are much nicer than me. All I can think about is this shitbag giving up five runs to this douchebag team. We can salute the streak later. Right now, keep them off the fucking board. It's one thing to lose a big matchup like this. It's another to not even show up.
  19. As some of you may have heard, Jose Reyes signed a 6 year, $106 million deal with the Miami Marlins. Some on this board went a little nutty insisting he had to be re-signed at all costs. Ahem. Some were more level-headed and called it a bad deal and were glad the Mets passed. Checking in on Jose after roughly a third of the season has been played has him checking in at .270/.346/.386 (OPS .732). $17 million is a lot to spend on a player with an OPS in the low .700's. Jose has also swiped 16 bases (caught 4 times) putting him on pace to steal about 39 bases. (He's 5th in the league, 7th in the majors). His OPS puts him 9th among shortstops in baseball (Tulowitzky currently does not qualify). The knock on Reyes has always been his OBP. Last year, even when he hit .337, his OBP was only .384. Also, it was tough to know whether last year was the year he figured it all out, or whether he was likely to revert back to an OPS in the .700's again. He's 29 years old, and his days of swiping 60 bases seem to be behind him. If Miami came and offered him back to you now (at full salary), would you take him? Did Sandy make the right call?
  20. He's raised his OPS 100 points in about a week. That's both good and bad.
  21. There is no doubt that Benitez was a better pitcher than Roger McDowell. Just as there is no doubt that Benitez will ever win any sort of poll involving Mets fans. Ever.
  22. You're thinking of I-81.
  23. Chad, what was your former handle?
  24. One hitter. One hitter. One hitter. If I say it enough times it will get jinxed and the official scorer will change it to an error.
