  1. Great night to walk off.
  2. Fuck Cuddyer.
  3. With the offensive explosion this weekend the Mets jump up to 22nd in runs scored and 26th in OPS. Hey, it's progress.
  4. I thought he had closed his Twitter account after wrestling with trolls.

He missed over the plate way too much, and I thought that he was fortunate to get through 5 innings scoreless. He looked afraid to come inside on hitters, and that allowed them to feel very comfortable at the plate. His secondary stuff is just ok. Maybe my thoughts were skewed by watching Arrieta's curve dominate Mets hitters all night, but I didn't see anything from his off-speed pitches to think any of them could be a weapon. What I liked was that he was not afraid to throw them when behind in the count, but if big league hitters start anticipating that, these will be hit a long way. Both his curve and change up look very flat. In short, he looks more like Zach Wheeler than Matt Harvey. (Though I think he will be better than Wheeler.) I had to take my daughter to a birthday party so I missed this game, but from all accounts he addressed all of these points above. I guess it didn't take long.
  6. Falling in a heap usually means ACL tear. See you in 2016 Brandon Nimmo. In other news, David Wright set to resume baseball activities on Monday. No word yet on when the active roster will resume baseball activities.
  7. One hit? These guys are spineless losers.
  8. We regret to inform you that Benjamin Grimm has been suspended for 6 months without pay.

It'll be curious to see if they'll try to keep Syndie in the rotation and turn Gee into a bullpenner. But the real problem remains offense. Working for bullpen perfection is a fool's pursuit. Yup and yup.
  10. The Mets are still in first place, but for me this series is the point where I give up any delusions of a dominant team. I hope they will stick around and I think they can compete for a wild card if everything breaks right, but they are no where near the level of the elite teams in baseball.
  11. And I think it would be unfair to place that much pressure on them anyway. The Mets need a middle of the order presence, and I don't know that either will be that. Conforto has a chance. Nimmo, I don't think will be that. The Mets need a fearsome hitter that looms in the on-deck circle. No one on this team looms.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Of course he couldn't do anything. Your job as baserunner on a popup is to jog back within safety distance of the bag and then watch to see if the ball somehow falls in. With the popup 60 feet away from the bag, safety distance is spitting distance. Harvey's job is to assume nothing, and run like a cheetah until he hears an ump call him out. He assumed, and he ended up looking stupid and lazy. Exactly.
  13. Looks like TM started a similar thread while i was typing. Feel free to merge mine into his.
  14. The NY Mets offense is bad. How bad is it? *The Mets have exactly 1 player in the top 100 in OPS. Lucas Duda checks in at #56 with an .820. (Next is Granderson at #109). By comparison, the Nats have 3, St. Louis has 4, and the Dodgers have 4. Each team has at least one player in the top 10. In the AL, the MFY's have 4, Houston has 3 and Kansas City has 5. *The Mets have scored 125 Runs, placing them tied for 25 with the Angels (30 teams). All other division leaders are in the top 12. Washington is currently 4th. *The Mets are 28 out of 30 teams in team OPS. So the lack of runs cited above is not a real surprise. Much of this comes from the fact the Mets hit for no power at all (28th in SLG), but even their OBP, an alleged strength is abysmal. (.302, 24th overall). Ceetar will be quick to jump in here and mention Wright and Travis. And no question they would help, but keep in mind other teams have injuries too. Washington would be even better with Anthony Rendon. And even if Travis reaches his potential and David has a bounceback year, neither of these guys will end up in the top 10. I guess it's not impossible to make the playoffs with an offense this bad, but these numbers make it hard to believe that this team is a realistic contender.
  15. Ceetar wrote: they lost 2 of their better hitters. That's why they're not hitting. This is not true. I grant you that they lost 2 of their better hitters, but teams lose players to injury all the time. You hope that the rest of the lineup can cover. This lineup does not. The biggest problems are the corner outfielders. They make $25 million between the two of them and their production has been awful. We already talked about how Granderson sucks. Cuddyer is even worse. Whether or not d'Arnaud and Wright are in the lineup, these two have no excuse. Lagares, Flores, Plawecki and Herrera have potential, but haven't realized it yet. And Murphy waffles between suck (this year) and kinda sorta ok (other years). This lineup needs help, even when Wright and d'Arnaud return.
  16. Can someone explain to me why Ruben Tejada is starting 3 out of the last 4 games when the offense is struggling as badly as it is? Infuriating.

  18. The Mets are 7-10 since the big winning streak. I get that no one expected them to keep winning at a .700 clip, but this is now several weeks of lackluster baseball. The team has largely been what people feared they would be coming in, good pitching, not enough hitting. As FK mentioned, it seems like they get no-hit for the first 3 innings every night. I think, or at least hope, they will stay competitive for the rest of the season. But they are not going to take that next step until they get some legitimate threats in that lineup.

  20. Twenty years from now we are going to sit around and have trouble remembering the order of all of our 5 consecutive ROY's. We will remember it started with deGrom, and then was it Syndegaard next? Or was it Conforto then Syndegaard? Was Matz one of them? It will be doubly confusing when trying to separate it from the order of Cy Young awards. At least the World Championships will be easy to track. Every year from 2015 to 2030.
  21. I hope he checks in about 27 more times.
  22. I'm all for this. Future back pages: CINDERELLA HAVING A BALL! Syndegaard K's 12 as Mets Shutout Nats CLOCK STRIKES 12 FOR NOAH! Syndegaard roughed up as Mets streak ends at 14
  23. metfairy, we will be there. Let's exchange info.
  24. Centerfield wrote: Syndegaard was named the PCL player of the week. Hopefully he is going to show the Mets he is ready. I'm wondering if he can hit at all. So, um, yes. Yes he can it.
