  1. That includes the owners.
  2. This is really inexcusable. Five years of rebuilding and this is the lineup they put out there? Seriously. Fire everyone.
  3. Oh well. Game over.
  4. It seems inevitable to me that Terry Collins will eventually be fired. It's a shame. This is not his fault. Ownership slashed the budget. The front office has had incredible missteps. In his five years, Sandy has landed us one productive offensive player (d'Arnaud) and he had to trade a Cy Young winner to do it. (Two if you count the half year of Marlon Byrd). Last year, on the brink of contention, and badly needing power for the lineup, they added a 36 year old outfielder coming off a major injury. And did nothing else. For an offense that needed an impact, middle of the order bat, he went the easy way and took middling talent. They are paying the price for that now. Someone should write a book from Omar's perspective how he set up the Mets for contention (Harvey, deGrom, Familia) but Sandy Alderson could not supplement the team with the talent to bring it home.

  6. Perhaps it is easier to take Pete Rose out of the equation. I think what Edgy is asking is for MLB to come out and state what criteria, if any, will be necessary for anyone declared permanently ineligible to seek reinstatement. Or to affirmatively state "There will be no reinstatement." Something like "Any individual declared permanently ineligible may reek reinstatement after X number of years by appealing to panel, comprised of Important Person #1, Important Person #2 and headed by Super Important Person Number 3. Criteria considered shall be (a) how much of a dick you are ( how much charity work you have done and © how much money MLB can make from your reinstatement. The decision of the panel shall be at the panel's sole discretion and shall be final." In other words, set concrete criteria for the completely subjective process.

I don't see any room here for easing any ban. (d) BETTING ON BALL GAMES. Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year. Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible. Thanks for posting the rule. The way I read this rule, Pete is "ineligible" from baseball permanently. What this means, I'm not sure, but the implication seems to be that he can never have a "duty to perform" for baseball ever again. Meaning he cannot work for MLB in any capacity. I don't necessarily read that rule to mean he cannot appear at games, tip his hat and wave to the crowd, unless these guys are paid for such events. I also don't read that rule to mean he cannot be elected to the HOF, but the HOF and its' standards are seriously flawed in themselves. I don't know anything about reinstatement. What would the criteria be? Contrition? Demonstrating you are reformed? To me I picture the parole scenes in Shawshank. Whatever the standard, I don't see Pete as having much of a chance. It also doesn't help that he comes across as a dick.
  8. Curtis Granderson sucks.
  9. I was too young to pay much attention to ownership during his heyday, but you have to give credit to a man that hires good staff and lets them do their job. I don't know much about Nelson, but I do know two things: 1. Was instrumental in the re-signing of Piazza, and possibly the trade to get him in the first place. 2. Hated the Wilpons And that pretty much makes him ok in my book.
  10. Yes, but aren't we asking the Mets to act like a big-market team? I can understand getting on them for moves not made, but I can't hold them up for the money they spend. I was all for the Wright extension. I hope they spend more.
  11. Have you guys discussed the McCutcheon commercial where he robs the HR? Clearly the Pirates are at home, but the announcer says "This could be the ball game!" Meaning the announcer either: 1. Clearly misread the fly ball and thought it was a routine out. 2. Expected McCutcheon to rob the HR. 3. Is Jon Sterling.

  13. Nice! This is the "sack up" type of win I've been looking for all season. Is it me or have the bats woken up since being no hit? Now let's get David back and win this thing.
  14. Tom O'Malley was the youngest player in the bigs when he made his major league debut in 1982 while playing for the Giants. His debut was a Shea Stadium. What is interesting about Bartolome Fortunado?
  15. I realize that anything they say to the press won't get them hits today, but my god, show a little fire. Does anyone think that a hitting version of Matt Harvey would have a "Oh well, what can you do?" attitude after getting embarrassed by that? It's demoralizing. And it's not just last night. They have been doing it all season. Not once have the bats battled back after falling behind early. Once the starter gives up 3 or 4 runs, the game is over. The hitters don't make any noise the rest of the game. They are lifeless. And it makes them painful to watch. The great players not only have talent, but they have a drive that is visible no matter what they say to the media. None of the position players have any trace of this. I can't believe I'm about to write this, but may be they do need Wally Backman after all.
  16. Interesting reactions after the game. How do I feel? How the fuck do you think I feel? It's humiliating and embarrassing. Everyone on this team needs to look themselves in the mirror. Especially the veterans. Especially me. You want to know how I feel? I'm fucking pissed off. What happened tonight is unacceptable. This shit ends now. -Michael Cuddyer It's one thing to get no-hit. We also had no walks. No balls hit hard. No good at-bats. I don't know how anyone here expects to make the playoffs with this kind of pathetic effort. And you know what? It's been a long time coming. Our lineup has been shit for too long. We need to wake the fuck up. Hopefully this is what does it for us. -Curtis Granderson Wait, what? They didn't say that? Oh right. This is what they said: No ones hanging their heads about it, its a loss. The cool thing about this, things reset, all of a sudden were focused on tomorrow. Just like that. -Curtis Granderson We got no-hit. It happens. -Michael Cuddyer Anyone wondering why our lineup is so pathetic need look no further than this.

  20. Interesting question, if offered to you right now, would you take that? Exciting race, make the playoffs, go to the WS, lose in 7 when Terry puts Harvey out for game 6 on short rest?
  21. I really really really hope the pick Colorado got for Cuddyer ends up being the second coming of Jason Tyner.
  22. Granderson, with his 2 HR's yesterday, saw his OPS jump more than 30 points! At .737, Granderson is now 16th out of 23 rightfielders in the bigs who qualify. His OPS by month: April: .682 May: .750 June: .857 July: SKY IS THE LIMIT!
  23. Wow. Thank god we are in the east. If they were in the West, they'd be in third place, if they were in the Central they'd be in fourth. Even with yesterday's offensive explosion, the Mets are still 25th in the majors in OPS, the worst of any contender.
  24. Hey we're back in first!
