  2. I think the Mays thing is just a function of age. If you were there, it's special to you. I wasn't. So I can't figure out why watching a washed up Mays play out his last days would be anything special. Maybe for converted Giants fans? I mean, if an old Mike Trout finished his career with a 130 games in a Mets uniform and put up a mid .700's OPS, I think it would be ridiculed more than revered. On the other hand, the '86 cover isn't great, but it's one where the Mets win the World Fucking Series. Kinda ok picture of Mets winning the World Series against old man scratching his head. Knight Cap for me.
  3. =smg58 post_id=10794 time=1558555830 user_id=62] Have to agree with Ceetar on this. That's a very generous amount of pool money for somebody who might not have any value left. As far as memories? Well, there was striking out with the bases loaded against a closer who was running on fumes at that point.
  4. Thanks guys. So it wasn't an implosion then? Sounds like a bloop single, and then giving up a double to Turner, which, you know, happens. As long as he has his control and his velocity, I think he'll be ok.
  5. Hard to believe an over the hill Mays scratching his head is the #2 seed.
  6. There's some stretching there, but overall it's a pretty good summation of what is wrong with the Mets. I'm not surprised you think it's garbage.
  7. I guess I should have given this more attention when he was being hired. Why is his reputation so bad? I mean, at the time there were articles that he stresses hard contact, using the whole field, opposite field, etc. All of those sound good to me. They talked about bunting against shifts, stressing going up the middle. I feel like they've gotten away from all of that. I know he clashed with Kris Davis and Anthony Rizzo. But that can just be a personality thing. Am I missing specifics?

And what with me recovering already from double-heel surgery, and needing to not just get on my feet, but getting ready to put the burdens of an MLB outfielder them same feet, you can see where it can be a might disconcertin'. Sure. But even with multiple fractures, they can heal simultaneously. It's not like you tack on additional weeks for each fractures. And I get that it may be complicated, and may require surgery, but 12 weeks is more or less the outside time frame on even complicated fractures. Let's assume before the injury, he was 3 months away from recovery. Even if you stop the clock on that and add it to the fracture recovery, that's still 6 months in the aggregate. And if the injuries can heal in tandem, then it's much shorter. I guess there could be ligament or tendon damage, which can take longer. But the reports don't indicate that this is the case. Maybe that's what they're looking at today.
  9. I'm surprised there isn't more information on his prognosis. From what I could gather, it seems like Ces has already been examined by Mets doctors. I guess it depends on whether he needs surgery or not, but fractures are generally 6-12 weeks. I have no idea why that would affect 2020.
  10. I don't have the words. I can't even blame this one on the Wilpons.
  11. Let's see what we learned in 2015: *Half measures don't work. It was a mistake to sign Michael Cuddyer. But here we in 2019 with Robinson Cano. And Todd Frazier..and Jason Vargas...and.... *If you have an elite hitting prospect, he can come up and help save your season. Even if he's young and not yet played at AAA. Let's call up Kelenic. *So can elite pitching prospects. We seem to be missing these. *When you acquire elite MVP level talent, you score runs and win games.

Each of these moments (and Mike F. Scioscia, Yadier F. Molina and Game 1 of the 2015 WS should be on this list) were terrible for themselves. But none of them have anything to do with tonight's game. The Wilpon rise to power is the worst. We are looking at more of the same for as long as we can see. Part of the reason these moments hurt so much is that when they happen, you know that was your shot. And you're not getting back there for another decade. For real, I got depressed recently when I realized I am probably not going to outlive the Wilpon era. Fuck them man.
  13. These are really bad for baseball players right? Or are we just hyper-sensitive because of Ryan Church and Jason Bay? This season sucks. On Edit: It occurs to me that Brandon Nimmo hit the wall pretty hard a few weeks back. Could he be suffering from a concussion as well?
  14. We can't beat anyone but the Marlins.
  15. Sure. But he's thinned out from when he was younger. http://www.mlb.com/assets/images/8/8/4/269900884/raw.jpg>
  16. This was such a fun game to watch. Big early lead, Thor cruising, a few tack on runs at the end. I don't remember the last time I watched a game that comfortably.
  17. Not at all. I love Ramon Castro. I think he is my favorite backup catcher not named Todd Pratt. Did you know he had a .774 OPS during his 5 years with the Mets? That's crazy. He'd be an All-Star with those numbers today. I think of him primarily as LoDoca's backup catcher, but in reality, he both preceded him and outlasted him. And looking back, outhit the first string guy during his time here. LoDuca Mets OPS: .739 Castro Mets OPS: .774 All of that comes from the drastic difference in 2007. LoDuca: 488 PA, .689 OPS. Castro: 157 PA, .887 OPS. Were we clamoring for Castro to get more starts? It's frustrating that we fell a game short that year and gave three times as many PA to a guy with an OPS 200 points lower.

  19. An impeached Donald Trump.
  20. The winners are more or less who I would have guessed. Though I thought JD Davis had a chance at bench player. Great work. I echo what was said about the cards. Especially the Shea ones.
  21. Great report. How was the surrounding area?
