  1. Lenny was one of my favorites too. It's amazing how little we knew.
  2. Also. Jeff McNeil. Career .813 OPS against lefties. Small sample size, but still. Too many regulars sat yesterday.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The problem is that Mickey blew through too many of his pitchers early, and let Lugo throw too many pitches the day before. This. The decision not to pinch run Ramos and his bullpen management. During 11-1 last year, we all commented how he was burning Lugo and Gsellman. This year, it doesn't seem like he's learned a heck of a lot. I mean, 7 run lead. Come on Mickey.

  6. Edgy MD wrote: Jeter was just the quintessence of making the easy plays look easy. And the novice plays look heroic. Hi. I'm Derek Jeter. I catch the ball in fair territory, take two steps, then dive into the stands. I'm awesome.
  7. Agreed on Olerud. I disagree on Rey. He was very smooth, but also incredibly acrobatic and athletic. When I watched him I thought "Omg. How can anyone do that?" Whereas with Beltran, I'd watch him run down a ball and think "Outfielding is easy".

  9. Watched the replay last night. The coolest thing about the Cano throw home was how casually he did it. It looked like he was just flipping the ball back to the pitcher. I wonder if this is part of why he is polarizing. He makes it look so easy, some don't appreciate how good of a play that was. In a way he's like Beltran. Beltran also made things look so easy that people didn't understand how great he was. I think Cano is the Make-It-Look-Easy-est player we've had since Beltran. Though Cespedes has some of that too. Robin Ventura was also super smooth in the field. On the other side of the spectrum, the two greatest Mets were strongly in the Takes-a-Ton-of-Effort camp. Piazza looked like he had pulled a muscle every time he hit a home run. And Tom Seaver pitched like he was trying to throw a ball through a brick wall. Off the top of my head: MILE-iest Mets 1. Beltran 2. Cano 3. Glavine TaToEs 1. Piazza 2. Seaver 3. Ordonez
  10. Edgy MD wrote: I kind of love it. If he's gonna play the heel, he might as well play it as a Phillie. Meanwhile, the Nats (the winless Nats) not only lost their best player, they've lost all their character. They go into game two not having yet scored their first run. Harper's name is going to be all over their press clippings tomorrow. It's ok. They got past deGrom. Now they can look forward to Syndergaard and Wheeler.
  11. You know what I can count on? Overreacting on Opening Day. Like clockwork. Every. Single. Year. Live and die with each pitch like it's a post-season game. Extrapolate the day's performance over the entire season. Looks like Cano has plenty in the tank after all. Maybe Alonso wasn't quite ready for the prime time. Conforto 0 for 4 with 2K's. You wonder if he's ever going to live up to his potential. A loss means moping around for 2 days. Wondering if we'll be out of the race by Memorial Day. A win means playoffs. What's our Magic Number? Year after year, regardless of my age.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: And the 38-12 OD record is as cool as it is unexplainable. Never before heard the 'stat' Gary quoted about it being the best 50-year streak for any team in any sport. Well, maybe not the Globetrotters, or probably the personal hoops squad for Kim il-Sung/Kim Jong-Il/Kim Jong-Un, but you get the idea. Well duh. Team Kim features Dennis Rodman.
  13. Not for nothing but that was a pretty Bro-tastic win. Cano front and center. Extension boy throws 6 scoreless. Familia and Diaz are lights out. Let's go 11-1 again.
  14. Why is Jake out of the game?
  15. Welcome to the bigs Pete Alonso. Now go face Scherzer. Jeezus.
  16. I knew I'd be so productive between 1 and 4 p.m. today.
  17. What happened? It says Robles doubled off in a rundown.
  18. Nobody has ever looked as good loading as Darryl. Ever. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/magazines/19900709_SI.jpg>
  19. Early Cy Young Watch: Max Scherzer ERA: 9.00 Jacob deGrom ERA: 0.00
  20. I STILL DID NOT LIKE THAT TRADE. WOO HOO!!!!
  21. OMG. Thank you for this! Amazing!
  22. How is this not a holiday. Whoever makes that a campaign promise is getting my vote in 2020. Whoever!
  23. I'd like to think I'm pretty tough on the media myself, but I feel like the Bonilla deal gets mocked for a bunch of different reasons. Specifically: 1. It's Bobby Bonilla. And I guess more importantly, it's Bobby Bonilla and the Mets. It was a mistake to get him the first time, it was a mistake to get him the second time, and now the Mets have to be reminded of that mistake into perpetuity. 2. Bonilla happened because of Rojas. We were trying to dump the $4.5 million owed to Rojas. So in dumping a bad contract, we took on an even worse contract. Bonilla had 2 years left at $5.9 million per. So the Mets somehow turned $4.5 in bad contracts into $34.5 million. And I get it present value, blah blah blah, but the numbers are laughable. 3. Deferred money is expected when you sign a star. Like Jake. Deferred money for a malcontent because you were trying to dump the contract of a middle reliever? Well... 4. Madoff. This is a big part of the story.
