  1. I know this is like picking Duke in the March Madness bracket, but LFGM looks like a winner to me.
  2. This lockout is even more boring than I anticipated. Discouraging that we haven't heard a peep from either side.
  3. He's also a broadcaster, and there should be plenty of material to gauge his approach to analytics. I don't buy that a guy would be resistant to more information simply because he's old. Has anyone heard Buck on the air?
  4. Hard to vote against Jake. But that emotion in the second cover is real.
  5. Surprising. Puig is 31 years old, immensely talented and has a career .823 OPS. Shocking that no MLB team would take a flyer on him.
  6. I'm having a hard time believing the Brad Pitt cover won its pool. I'm guessing the other covers must have featured Chase Utley, Donald Trump and Mickey Calloway's genitalia.
  7. I've learned over the years that I have no idea if I'll like a manager until he manages my team. And I see nothing about Buck that I don't like so I'd be fine I guess until I see him manage. I mean, basically if he's not sending dick pics to reporters then I'm good.
  8. =kcmets post_id=82390 time=1638462770 user_id=53] Mr. Slate is looking good! Shit, he must be like 110??
  9. You know, if they wanted to make revenue sharing fair, it would be based upon the size of the market, rather than actual revenue. For instance, if a NY team has to share with KC, I can see the logic in that. But a team shouldn't have to share money with a team in a similar market. So for instance, San Diego shouldn't have to send money to Pittsburgh simply because the Pirates put out a shitty product.
  10. Rodon sounds like he has some upside, though there are questions about his health. Kikuchi was pretty good before the new ball/sticky stuff fiasco. Both lefties. Both throw hard, but I think the peripherals on Kikuchi are kinda yucky.
  11. Also, if they want to challenge the 6 year eligibility for FA, and reduce it to 5, we may be locked out for a long time.
  12. January 31.

Do MLB teams tank for the draft. I don't think so. It's not like the NBA where you would likely get an instant impact starter. Ys on the DH. I can't stand watching pitchers bat. Agreed, a 27 man roster would create jobs and cut much of the nonsensical daily callups.

  15. =Ceetar post_id=82295 time=1638388647 user_id=102] I like the idea of the best team that didn't make the playoffs picks first.
  16. I think trading JD just when the NL adopts the DH would be a mistake. He still hit well last year, even with a torn ligament. He isn't expensive and adds value. Trading McNeil and Smith at the lowest of their trade value seems unwise as well. And trading either for a middle reliever seems positively Wilponian. Maybe even Phillipsian. Both, especially McNeil, seem like a good candidate to bounce back. I wouldn't want anyone thinking that either needs to be unloaded. I mean, if we get value for them, sure. But that seems unlikely given their off years.
  17. Agreed. Not a great pun by NewsDay, but still beats the other.
  18. One of the best athletes I've ever seen in baseball. Fun player. Just an ok hitter overall, unless that plate discipline he found in NY is sustainable. And I have no idea of knowing if it is. I would have been cool with keeping him, but I'm also cool with someone else, so long as we get another big bat.
  19. Of the guys that underperformed last year, McNeil (and also Conforto) are my guesses to bounce back. He has 1000 ABs of a high 800s OPS. The talent is there. I'm also comfortable with Escobar and Davis handling 3B. I think what we really need is some power from our OF.

  21. Day 2 is less fun.
  22. I guess sleep is overrated anyway.
  23. I really hope not. One of the main criteria for "good owner" is "get the fuck out of the way".
  24. What we've learned. 1. Steve Cohen is actively involved in free agent discussions. Something he said he wouldn't do, and one of the biggest issues with the Wilpon regime. 2. Steve got played by Matz's agent. Whose job it is to drive up price, and say whatever it takes. 3. Steve's not used to getting played, doesn't like it, and now cries on Twitter about it, making this a bigger story than it ever needed to be. 4. He was willing to go four years, $44M on Steven Matz. Which is in itself alarming. 5. Steve Cohen badly needs a publicist.
