  1. I think I'd be fine with this: Phillies 7 - (4-3) Skanks 2 - (1-1) Rockies 4 - (3-1) Dodgers 3 - (2-1) Braves 4 - (2-2) 12-8.
  2. Are against the Braves, Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers, with one series against the Rockies. This is really the last tough stretch of games for 2022. After that, September looks as soft as a baby's bottom. Atlanta seems to do fine anytime they're not playing the Mets, so you figure we have to do our damage in the head-to-head games. How many will the Mets win?
  3. =seawolf17 post_id=102839 time=1659914046 user_id=91] Who knew three innings ago that this would be the Joely Rodriguez Game?

  5. Alfonzo, Bobby Jones, Piazza, Rey.
  6. In my mind, Ian Anderson is better than a 4.99 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. I guess he struggled early on, because his last few starts have been pretty solid with one outlier.
  7. Darin fucking Ruf? WTF.
  8. "Alright fine. We'll take Corbin, but you have to let us hit against him tonight first."
  9. I'm sorry. These are MLB standings. Please post how the CPF posters rank as against each other. Thank you.
  10. I think some of this is the sound on my TV, but I have yet to hear a word Showalter has said in any of his post-game interviews. If I were a Mets beat guy I think I'd spend my entire night saying "I'm sorry, what?"
  11. I am 100 percent certain he's going to be a star. I may not have ever sent him play, but I'm sold.
  12. No. This is a fan's rendering. He's on twitter. I think he got picked up by the Mets to work on their website. Some of his stuff is really cool.

  14. Edgy, as always, except for when he's arguing with me, is right. Let's be honest. He's right when he's arguing with me too.

  16. That was fun! I'm kinda all over the place. 2022: 12 of 12 2012: 11 of 12 2002: 9 of 12 1992: 10 of 12 1982: 5 of 12 1972: 7 of 12 1962: 1 of 12 (though I should have known 2 and kicked myself when I saw who it was).
  17. =Gwreck post_id=95279 time=1654658534 user_id=56] Negative X-rays for Pete. Quad tightness for Marte, further imaging needed.
  18. This has the potential to be the worst baseball night of 2022. Just rooting for negative x rays tonight
  19. Ok. Let's get two clean bills of health so I can go to sleep.
  20. In their brutal 13 game stretch last year, the Mets went 2-11. With last nights win, the 2022 Mets have clinched a better record in brutal 13 game stretches than the 2021 Mets.
  21. I think the Infield Fly Rule makes sense. The dropped pop-up double play is a strange quirk of the game, and the infield fly helps eliminate that. In essence you shouldn't be rewarded for failing (or refusing) to catch a ball. Ground ball double plays are earned. Fielders must go above and beyond the routine in order to secure two outs (that's why no error is given for failure to turn). Awarding two outs after a dropped pop-up is counterintuitive. You shouldn't be rewarded for incompetence (missing a ball) or deception (intentionally letting it fall). I like Ben's proposal. It's the best compromise. Besides, in Little League, I'd say Infield Flies are caught less than half the time.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: How about this? (Offered without a great deal of thought...) For the infield fly rule, instead of saying the batter is automatically out, the batter is only out if the ball is caught. If it's not caught, the runner gets first base and any runners that would have been subject to a force play advance one and only one base. This rule makes a ton of sense.
  23. It's frustrating because there was such a simple compromise position. Two innings of regular extras, then start with the runner in the 12th. I might even be for that rule. But I think the cat is out of the bag now. And people will point to games (like yesterday's) where the rule shortened the game. What's done is done, I think, and like JCL says, all of us old white guys are going to have to deal with it.
  24. I think it's important to be specific about the question. Who is to credit for the Mets success this season? Lots of people, starting with the players. Then the manager, the coaches, the analytics guys who shifted gears, and even the Wilpons and the prior regimes. Sandy, who brought in Alonso, McNeil, Megill, even Omar who drafted Jake, all deserve some of the credit. But if you are asking what has been the difference, specifically, what factor is responsible for this Mets season being different than all the prior years? The answer is simple. Steve Cohen. He brought money, of course, but he also brought competence. His analytics approach backfired last year. He adjusted. He brought in Eppler, who has done a good job. He brought in Buck, who completely changed the culture. The no-hitter was just luck, but the success is hopefully here to stay. And that doesn't mean that the Mets will win anything this year, or any other year but if ownership continues to run this organization the right way, there is no reason this franchise can't have long period of sustained success.
