  1. Seven inning regulation games. Would cut out a lot of the stuff they want to monkey with to begin with (too many pitching changes, artificial limits on batters faced etc), chops an hour off game times right off the bat, discourages pursuit of gimmicky extra-inning rules they're also apparently dumb enough to consider, in step with changes in how the game is played physically today (harder throwers, more injuries, lighter loads), doesn't cost the TV stations programming or the owners butts in seats, addresses the game's-too-late-on-a-schoolnight argument from pearl-clutching moms, and probably brings bb in line, timewise, with alternatives like movies and clock-games like fb, bb, hockey etc 7 inning games!
  2. I associate him with the Alderson regime, I'm sure the Mets did too. Tannest Met in a long while, looked chubby but was probably just solid. I think he can be seen grinning like an asshole with Trump Jr. in those photos, so afaic he can beat it
  3. To the extent it was boring the mundane-ness of it I think, was all part of the joke. Not saying it was substantial or deep, but I laughed at the idea and at the hammy acting. It was fun.
  4. yupp, izzy Izzy
  5. @tykelly11: Well, I signed with a baseball team. Finally, the Machado and Harper dominoes can start to fall. Angels, I believe
  6. The best Jerry Blevins moment ever was probably opening day vs. Washington in 2015, his first appearance as a Met (wearing No. 13, doncha know) retired Harper in the bottom of the 9th before giving way to noted Met closer Buddy Carlyle. Just weeks after the Nats practically gave him to us. Mets win, and we're off. He gives up a homer to Harper there and we're probably looking at a whole different kind of year. I think the club went to the well too often with him, I predicted as much before last year, but their faith in him was also rewarded longer than I would stuck around for, as I still don;t believe he actually "fell off a curb" Or maybe he did but probably had several pints in him in at the time

  8. The Mets stopped having Spring Training Team Unity Bowling nights a few years back because too many fans interfered
  9. Get your own Mets bowling shirt. https://i.etsystatic.com/8912066/r/il/a2cccb/921145561/il_1140xN.921145561_bccr.jpg>
  10. Team Davis vs. Team Dickey, 2011 https://www.metspolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/A998CB72-0B27-4C3D-B1BC-621B592DC7604.jpg> https://www.metspolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/E4E150DE-29F3-47C2-B69A-91B51A1D0FD65.jpg>
  11. Blevins was pretty much shit last year, and really only does 1 thing well, so it makes sense in the whydfml world of specialist relievers. No doubt he's capable of recapturing the mojo but how much would you bet?
  12. Linebackers: Stearns, Gsellman, Hansel Robles, Frank Francisco Defensive Line: Ellis Valentine, Syndergaard, Skip Lockwood, Joe Orsulak Secondary: Juan Lagares, Angel Pagan, Dykstra, Ceciliani Kicker: Harrelson Punter: Melvin Mora Offensive line: Bartolo Colon, Bubba Trammel, Heath Bell, Rod Barajas QB: Ron Darling, Brent Mayne (very Quarterbacky names) RBs: Mazzilli, Marlon Byrd FB: Kevin Mitchell WRs: Endy Chavez, Strawberry TE: Neiuenhuis
  13. If Ceetar were still alive he'd prolly pop in some comment about how old-media sucks but this is great.
  14. Well it was a lot more than draft picks that got them there, so that's not absolute either.
  15. That said, Gio always struck me as a complete penis of a man. Temperamental, unpredictable, occasionally brilliant. Don't know if a 6th-man role would necessarily suit him and he may prefer being some shitty team's ace instead.
  16. I'd consider it too. It's not like Justin Dunn is going to be the 6th man
  17. I'm still gobsmacked at the preposterous notion accompanying this story that it was Alderson who preferred the Mets go without sufficient staff in the analytics department and will point out that every new Mets GM since Duquette came with a promise to beef up staffing there. Let's see if in 2 or 3 years these guys remain or aren't downsized so that the club can afford to re-sign an outfielder, as apparently was the case under Sandy
  18. Clubs aren't tanking for draft positions. They're doing so just to save $$
  19. I felt Bird Box was the stupidest movie I'd seen in a long time
  20. The buzz on Vientos at draft time was that he was a Florida high-school kid with college leverage whom the Mets aggressively gambled a 3rd round pick on. The feeling on him from the start was long-term project, but with the raw skills to imagine as a power-hitting 3rd baseman. Anyway it's good to see him so highly thought of already
  21. Comic horror mockumentary about the mundane hijinx of a group of vampires who share a house in New Zealand. Very funny. Apparently being adapted to a TV show set in New York.
  22. We saw The Favourite over the weekend. Very good performances, great look and very funny for a period piece. 18th century lesbians. Probably 10 minutes too long
  23. For awhile there the Omar-Bernazard Axis was promoting the idea that some guys were so certain to be surefire MLB stars that it barely mattered what level they played at and when.
  24. Terrific contest and a deserving champion. Thanks the organizers and volunteers!
