  1. He's endangered. I dunno if he's still around in a week.
  2. I like the Ellery Queen concept and photo but there's entirely too much clutter on the cover itself; gigantic logo, and so many big teasers you don't even know why Darling is even on it. I'm not sure that's the mystery they wanted to be conveying, especially while giving so much else away.
  3. The contrast between Swoboda's utter stillness and concentration in that photo and the "Movin' Mets" headline had to be a topic of intense production room debate; and I'm glad Team Juxtaposition won.
  4. If Cano gets hurt or suspended, we'll probably see him, and given that Cano's old and a steroid user, there's a chance. .232/.265/.330 in 45 PAs
  5. Signs a minor league deal. Will make $3 million if he makes the club. Um. So, why were we not in on that? 1) Because he's a penis. We covered this in the Gio Gonzalez thread. 2) MFYs will give him a job; Severino will be out for a month+ with an injury 3) "Mets people" say they didn't like him last year, someone said
  6. Completely unpredictable given the injury and all. BTW, I didn't know this but Cabrera is tearing it up for Rangers in Spring Training and looks to be their everyday 3B. He's wearing No. 14 since Joey Gallo is 13 there.
  7. I'm going for Keith and Will. Reminds me of the 80s and for a time Hernandez-Clark was a good debate. I liked both guys a lot back then though it was before I fully understood what a tool Clark could be irl. Both guys on that cover could probably be HOFers but aren't. Fun Will Clark Facts: * Broke Rusty Staub's home run record at Jesuit High in Louisiana. * Homered off Nolan Ryan on the first pitch he saw in the majors. * Was a college teammate of Rafael Palmeiro -- they'd combine for more than 800 home runs as MLB first basemen. Palmeiro left the Rangers pissed that they'd spoken to Clark when both were free agents. * Homered 2X off Greg Maddux and drove in 6 runs in Game 1 of the '89 NLCS
  8. Fuckyouyankeebluejeans sign Gio Gonzalez to a minor league deal
  9. I'm reading it anyway. Best way I know how to follow the game. I guess hechaveria didn't drive in the tying and go-ahead runs with a triple off the wall
  10. What number is he wearing
  11. I predict wild success at every level, even if he went to a crappy school. This guy will end Matz' career as a Met.
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The "stacked logo" Sports Illustrated era was not their greatest, and that NY/NY cover in particular was a stinker. . I just loathed that new SI logo from 1987. And the fonts SI used to accompany the cover story, beginning in 1987. I was saddened every time I got my issue in the mail during this era. For me, it marked the beginning of the end of SI's run as the sports mag that put out the best covers in the business. And split covers suck. (Wait till we get to that crappy SI split cover featuring Seaver and Palmer, Seaver's only regular season SI cover during his prime years as a Met) So I can't say anything good about this Straw/Mattingly cover. Looks like it's gonna be Casey '62 in a landslide in this bracket. Also about then the SI swimsuit issue went from 96 pages to 400 and they gave away football phones with a subscription.
  13. I completely won this draft and you guys know it. Taking Rosario when Cano was still on the board was a mistake, I admit it, but I got 13 Mets and honorary Met Wilmer Flores
  14. SI Casey cover is dynamite and easily wins this group. The "stacked logo" Sports Illustrated era was not their greatest, and that NY/NY cover in particular was a stinker. Baseball Digest obviously isn't trying. I think the NYer cover says something about how we live in the city, one man's ceiling is another man's floor and all. I'm giving it the silver medal in this group.
  15. This game's lack of TV is pissing me off
  16. Matt Ehalt from the Record and Wally Matthews most recently with the News headed to new dedicated Yahoo venture called Queens Baseball Club, which hypes itself as members-only and insidery. http://queensbaseballclub.comhttp://queensbaseballclub.com Seems sketchy to me. The Mets already have a Fake News organization/online community in SNY/MetsBlog. Verzion is a big Mets sponsor amiright? Yet the marketing comes off very much like they are walking the line on appearing "sanctioned" -- they throw around the word Citifield, but not Mets. And that postseason event with the "coach" sure seems authentic.
  17. =G-Fafif post_id=4402 time=1552770883 user_id=55] During today's game, Wayne Randazzo reported the still not quite active for work visa reasons Carlos Gomez has grabbed 23. He is listed without number on mets.com, where Keon Broxton is still 23 Such intrigue...
  18. Harper has a foot contusion and has yet to get a hit this spring, waiting so long to sign has put him behind schedule, and he may not be ready for opening day
  19. If Steven Matz wasn't from Long Island, they'd call him Steven Pelfrey or Steven Heilman.
  20. Matz gave up 5 in the first. Should traded his ass
  21. I'd hate for the rules to box in teams -- and their fans -- those 2 or 3 times a year when you bring in a guy who just doesn't have it that day. For example, you're up by one, the reliever throws 8 straight balls, but instead of going to the pen like you should if you were trying to win, you've got to purposefully let the ineffective guy pitch to a 3rd batter. Or fake an injury (count on it). Would potentially upset the balance between O&D by taking away one of the biggest "surprises" a D can provide while not also limiting the "matchup" advantage the offense can muster. Seems sketchy and dumb to me
  22. One thing that strikes you when you go down this list is how consistently terrible the ERAs were for almost every reliever. It's not likely any of the million guys who pitched for us last year will be invited to perform in such a land of opportunity again, and every one of them shit on the chance they had. Drew Smith and Bashlor were okay sometimes; and Peterson for a short while, but yikes. And of course even the guys who "didn't suck" sucked like Robles, Blevins and Ramos. I wanna blame Eiland or the bullpen coach or someone. The bad offense also, but it was like there was disease in the bullpen.
  23. Really encouraging that Wheels is having a good spring. He was hard to put behind Syndy in the 18 rankings and they could probably flip
