While they most likely don't have to sell the team NOW!!!!, it's pretty apparent that they're going to sell at some point in the not-distant future so there are only so many bridges they can burn as they continue to search for this ideal notion of a perfect buyer who'll not only agree to their price but also to their after-sale terms. The crazy thing is, every time they do this (and has any club sabotaged their own financial rescue not once but twice?!?) they'll be that much likely to find them. Who the hell would give Jeff Wilpon $2.6 billion and a job? Just take the money, Jeff!
  2. Yes like that
  3. The pitching prospect they are getting from the Twins also has some health red-flags I think I saw
  4. I can remember Bill Robinson back in the 80s emphasizing he was a "hitting coach" and not a "batting coach" and at the time it being something of a novel distinction.
  5. No I was making a reference to Centerfield's banner. Soupy had the ice-rink thing, I think
  6. At any rate I'd hope they can mend fences on this one as from what I gathered the Wilpons need to sell as Fred's losing what's left of his faculties. I thought the same thing when the Einhorn deal fell part too
  7. I also thought again about the initial announcement which came from the Mets side (did Cohen ever have a statement?) It was an oddly specific about the 5-year thing for a deal "in negotiation"

  9. That said, I don't put it past the Wilpons to screw anything up, just that I would be hesitant to read the lack of updates as a signal
  10. I guess then I don't understand the rumor
  11. I don't understand the question. What they acknowledged so far is that negotiations were taking place and that they've agreed not to say more while they continue. They wouldn't update until or unless those negotiations were complete.
  12. I kinda like Ulrika. Other than the obvious voter mistakes of advancing MANE MAN over FOLLY RANCHER, and THEY PULL YA BACK IN over SINKO DE MAYO, a darn good contest
  13. Or that Greenlight Capital guy. Mets probably are bound by NDLs and cannot comment. That's how multimillion deals get done, so I wouldn't interpret a lack of updates as a signal one way or another.
  14. The Wilpons will make you offer you can refuse.
  15. Yeah we liked it a lot too. It was interesting how it also told the story of how poor people turning the tables on the rich really affected other poor people.
  16. Poor kid tutors rich kid in Korea, family hjinx ensue. Stars the same guy who played the titular A TAXI DRIVER which we really liked.
  17. =Centerfield post_id=30862 time=1580487334 user_id=65] =smg58 post_id=30861 time=1580487129 user_id=62] It's not close. McNeil had a higher OPS+ than Arenado the last two seasons (which basically means if you factor in ballpark, McNeil's been the better hitter), and he appears to be a pretty good defensive third baseman too. So, no. If you had that kind of money to throw around, you could have gotten a second ace starter or a #2 instead of a #5 or #6. I suggested Cano and prospects earlier, which was half-serious -- if Brodie said they have to take Cano and they returned his call, I'd be as surprised as anybody -- but I can't think of any other scenario where the Mets get Arenado, don't take on more money than they appear willing to spend, and unequivocally improve the team.
  18. Among the team's most successful free-agent signings ever. You hafta remember the club was flat broke at the time and so could only afford bounceback candidates. He was coming off a lengthy injury layoff and had some red flags (age, whiffiness etc). But he really stepped up, was easy to root for and a fun player to watch even as he left his "excitement game" behind as grew (like, he didn;t rack up triples and stolen bases anymore but he still found meaningful ways to contribute). Class act and probably a distant Mets HoF candidate
  19. Maybe we can trade him for Juan Lagares
  20. Amazin'ly there's 18 minutes of raw video from that game up on the Mets site (no announcers, just crowd noise and bat-on-ball action. Cecchini's doubles are at 12:50 and 16:03. There's also a cool Ty Kelly action in there, couple single, throws a guy out at home. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/phillies-vs-mets/2016/09/24/449180#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=449180https://www.mlb.com/gameday/phillies-vs-mets/2016/09/24/449180#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=449180
  21. Was hoping it woulda worked out better. Always associated him and Zimmo as Paul DePodesta picks, different from Mets' traditional reliance on college pitchers with top pixx. Had a nice level swing with which he hit a ringing double near the end of his first call-up season that I wrongly pinned my entire hopes on.
