  1. We're in the 9th inning of the word series of tabloid. Will the STREAKERS voters bring out their closer?
  2. Mets have signed pitcher Rob Whalen, who was a draftee of theirs, traded to ATL in the Johnson-Uribe deal and since had a cups of coffee with the Braves and Mariners. Most recently he announced he was retiring after struggling with depression so I guess he changed his mind.
  3. Hmmm... Maybe we'll watch WESTERN STARS instead. The book was called Greetings from Bury Park and wasn't entirely great itself. I got the most out of description of his family and sort of rode with his Bruce admiration, but by the end he's like Bruce's best buddy, which made that bit of it harder to relate to. It's like, I had a hard childhood but it's ok now that I grew up to be cool.
  4. The book didn't come off as though it would make a movie, much less a comedy as the trailer seems to suggest. It's mostly a personal and sober examination of growing up as a minority in London and, um, being a fan of Springsteen.
  5. Nobody wants to join my unpopular but reasonable movement to lop 2 innings off every game. It would do wonders for game length, ease strain on pitcher arms and maximize strategy by compressing things. Side effects: No hitters and extra inning games would probably go way up (or maybe not?) Reduce innings, not games!
  6. Complicated, but interesting. Align the DH to any player before the game. Then if and when the game play continues to evolve to a point where starters have become closers, your DH/closer arrives in the 6th inning, providing offense and defense simultaneously. Not that I'm in favor of any DH-ing at all. But I gotta say, I've been beaten down and it feels inevitable
  7. Glad to see two excellent semifinalists meet in the finals! I'm going with JOG, it's just so clever. I know the Snooze fired everyone with talent some time ago but if I were the Post, I'd do what it takes to hire that guy/girl away. And if I were the Snooze I'd build a whole marketing campaign around him/her. NY DAILY NEWS: Join The Best Headline Writer in the Biz!
  8. Bucs GM: "Anytime you get a chance to get a guy with as high a ceiling as /glances at notes/ Liover Peguero you do it!"
  9. Heyman says the Dbaggs will have a Marte Partay
  10. Just because he settled with the victim doesn't mean the victim wasn't choked into having nonconsensual sex.
  11. Erasmo is an awesome name. Erase that motherfucker
  12. On the list. I read the book over the summer
  13. I dunno. As I recall it he was always making a bad error or screwing up a key play for the MFYs. I think of him and hear John + Suzyn in my head making excuses for "Nuney" -- as they always came from this perspective that they were his parents; concerned with a sruggling kid who hasn't realized how special he is.
  14. =86dreamer post_id=30461 time=1579914909 user_id=97] I am more confident in Luis than I ever was with Carlos.
  15. I like how the advertised in the same spot in the Wrigley and Shea scorecards. That's a national marketing campaign
  16. That's one better than Art Howe!
  17. I'd bet McNeil goes in any Arenado deal. I worry that the Mets have a hard time seeing what they've got in Zimmo; that said upgrading the D in CF is something they really oughta do and something has to give. Also, Marte + Arenado > Team as Is > just Marte Also, I'd like to trade Cespedes
  18. Here's some cool stuff about Matlack that you may not know yet (preview of huge MBTN scoop): Matlack was called up to the Mets in September of 1970 but never appeared in a game. But what number did he wear? According to a September 3 Daily Snooze article, he was assigned #27 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49434910642_1163e6d7be.jpg> But then there's this scorecard, from September 4 in Chicago, indicates he was wearing #50 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49434910392_eaf1ee5413.jpg> Back in Queens Sept. 10, the scorecard lists him in #35: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49434910877_a664dd4bb1.jpg> I had the last reference for some time and that's the "official" unofficial record. Matlack didn't actually debut till July 1971; Charlie Williams had 35 then, so he was issued his familiar 32. Pretty good notes column with a visit from Cool Papa Bell. The pitcher Scheffing was waiting to clear waivers was Dean Chance who'd join the club a week or two later and appear in just couple games ... wearing #27
  19. I guess so, but the Mets are funny. McNeil, Smith and Matz. Let's do it
  20. Edgy MD wrote: I think we should open with Bar Mitzvah footage. Mom is all proud of pious young Chaim while he's sneaking into the girls' room to ogle cousin Ruthie. Too cheap? No I love it. I probably need to pay Ken Sharp to adapt scenes from his NOTHIN TO LOSE oral history and I don't know anything about how to write scripts but godamn what a story
  21. Used to be a Met... I think
  22. My new screenplay (working title: DRESSED TO KILL) follows young Stanley Eisen from his days as an teenage outcast ashamed of his deformed ear and hounded by a fuckedup parents to a meeting with brash, horny, opinionated mama's-boy Chaim Bloom as young rockers in a big, dangerous city with big, dangerous dreams. Along the way they recruit a hearty-partying guitar whiz and a sour, would-be Brooklyn gangster drummer; hook up with a manager who teaches them the tricks of long-vanished vaudeville magic and together, with only a few songs and even fewer ideas, they leapfrog contemporaries with better chops and bigger followings, on their way to domination (of 13 year old boys). Flick ends with the release of ALIVE! leaving just enough breadcrumbs to promise sequel after sequel after sequel. My only concession to Hollywood is to cast good looking young actors
