  1. I was like, this isn't the guy with the hair is it?
  2. It's pretty obvious to me (without knowing all the facts) that both Yo and Cano are the juiciest juicers who ever juiced
  3. 3 words. ED FUCKIN' LYNCH
  4. I saw a game there once and was like, eh. Park was too symmetrical. The turf was the wrong shade of green and the dirt the wrong shade of brown. Everything was a double or a home run, no chance for triples on inside-the-parkies. Sat behind 3rd base mid-bowl and constantly was craning my neck to a scoreboard with the count and outs (only in the outfield that I saw) and the plate to catch the batter-pitcher confrontation. Fans and amenities were fine but I felt the cool and handsome city of Toronto could do better
  5. Braves have a good organ-i-zation. They always seem to get the one guy they need at the moment they need him, usually not for much. Like Donaldson, Ozuna etc, plus they pump out guys who can hit. Seems like they went direct from Chipper to Freddy as far as HOFworthy anchor players go. They pretty much always have a good manager too. I know they are shitty and shady when it comes to building stadiums and minor league affiliates etc but a good org
  6. Here we go: http://archives.thecranepool.net/19800/f1_t19814.shtmlhttp://archives.thecranepool.net/19800/f1_t19814.shtml
  7. Mets Chief Revenue Officer out after 7 years. I don;t know shit about Lou but I do know the Mets were managing so as to bolster the longterm franchise value by recognizing they had to draw fans when they were young and so (IMO) sorta overcorrected to this "family-friendly" offering, worried that our generation was the last of the hardcore baseball fans. They seemed acutely aware the Mets were just one option in this vast marketplace of entertainment options. Those may all be valid theses, but in total they struck me sort of underestimating the uniqueness of a successful and exciting team which in the big-picture of Fred & Jeff always came second and they seemed to think was subject to luck and not design. "we're snakebitten, baby!"
  8. Mickey batting the Mets out of order was a thing I found hard to forget. Yeah it's just a procedural screwup but it won the Reds a game and lost the Mets one, and sooner or later you reach a point in the year where you have one loss too many. Can't think of any game where Callaway Xed and Oed the Mets to win it back. The best you could hope with him was that he would not do that again
  9. Pete's younger brother Yonder Alonso off to the wild blue Yonder
  10. Here's the famous Mets Name Mickey Manager Thread where it's noted that Jeff "looks like a guy who didn't get his first choice" http://archives.thecranepool.net/26100/f1_t26144.shtmlhttp://archives.thecranepool.net/26100/f1_t26144.shtml and give it up for your drinkin' buddy Johnny Luchbucket who in October of 2017 said: Terry being Fred's buddy and a "specical assistant" is right out of Wilpon recipe book for front-office dysfunction, so maybe Sandy selects the guy least likely to be influenced by them/most able to placate them without necessarily doing what they say. I'm not sure offhand who that is. http://archives.thecranepool.net/26100/f1_t26139.shtmlhttp://archives.thecranepool.net/26100/f1_t26139.shtml
  11. Tell Sam to bring you those books
  12. The Bobby Bo contract we're paying for was acquired in a trade. It was the Marlins contract, traded to Los Angeles (for Piazza), then to the Mets (for the much hated uncle of our current manager, Mel Rojas).
  13. I didn't like how the Wilpons pinned all the blame on him just so they could hire Callaway and pretend that all the ills of the prior year had been cured. For what is worth, nothing helped Collins as much as being followed by that wooden surly baboon. By the way this isn't the right read on this at all. Callaway was Sandy's guy, and firing Terry was Sandy's idea. Hiring Terry back as an advisor-- along with letting Riccardo walk and getting Omar back, was part of Fred's revenge for having gotten Mickey. Forcing Sandy out and leaving Mickey to twist in the wind was the second part. This is why Terry is vamoosing now. Fred loved nothing more than sucking up to "white-haired baseball men" because he believed he was one of them. He's surely would have been a sucker for Terry's saltiness and Michigan bloodlines.
  14. Exorcise the woe-is-us demons. THIS. "We're snakebitten, baby" The Fred Wilpon quote that still makes my blood boil
  15. 1. Bobby Vee * 2. Terry * 3. Mickey 4. Willie 5. Jerry 6. Art * 7. Luis (icomplete) Big gap between Bobby and terry, then another gap between the next 4. I gave Willie the edge on jerry only because Willie seemed more "respected" among the various cohorts he reported to (fans, media, players) even though Jerry did most everything better. Art is sort of like Mickey, with the added task of managing immediately following a period of Wilponian meddling and so were deeper in the pile of shit than their peers. I give Mickey some credit for going out stronger than all the rest, even though he knew he was doomed
  16. I said this before but feel like Mickey was almost getting it by the time he was whacked. Fred taking out Sandy really left him on his own and I wondered if Sandy would consider bringing him back as the pitching coach. We need a new coaching staff for sure although Hef would probably be safer than most
  17. Terry was about a hundred times better than I thought he would be.
  18. Solves our infield logjam!
  19. Least surprising news ever
  20. The other guy I read about is the current A's GM David Forst (egghead from Harvard who succeeded DePodesta), and their player personnel AGM Billy Owens (former MILB player/scout/coach)
  21. LORICCOL
  22. Bad for Lugo's future earnings maybe, good for us. You hate to be this way but one of the arguments for an efficient productive org is to develop enough guys to be able to withstand attrition and injuries and free agency, and ride the hot guys while they're hot
  23. It's a cultural thing as mentioned above. Lawyers representing insurance companies in the US often take this posture, characterizing "elective" surgery as "unnecessary" surgery.
  24. Never been an Ozuna fan, although, I've said this before, my impression of him is as an overmatched young Marlin probably rushed to the big leagues. But above mentioned stuff about his fatness and fitness gives me pause. Springer much better for a lot of reasons and if you miss him then maybe, you try and trade, and then get to Ozuna
