1. Back in 82, i woulda put 10 bucks on the Alarm outcareering U2.
2. I should reveal where I stole this line from
3. These chicks look like guys
4. Amazin Adam Warren is the best handwriting font to read umdb scoresheets.
5. I'm not sure they had to go to John Denver for a reaction. I liked this, not being a WATW historian (or a fan when it came out). I wish there were more perspectives included but I was impressed they got Springsteen, recounting what surely wasn't a career highlight. Are you telling me Kim Carnes wasn't available? By the way she was a good sport to see her solo get cut to two words-- "and we" once they arranged the bridge. That someone got drunk didn't surprise me but nobody mentioned anything about what they used to stay awake all night Heuy Lewis just as he recounted, did look nervous in the footage (and good for an old man). I think he suffers hearing loss today and no longer performs. "The white people really bring it" -- true but many of them really chewed the scenery, like Bruce and Cyndi. Loved the Dylan and Stevie bit
6. I'm picking up an ironic mad vibe from those decrying a feminist flick only got a nomination for Ken. I didn't see this movie nd probably won't
7. They're definitely not going to sign him now that he got through arbitration without a deal and with Boras as the agent. I think much depends on where we are in late July. We gathered in several hitters at last year's deadline but there's a not a lot of high-ceiling pitching on the way. If it gets to free agency I sure the Mets will be competitive with the $$ then its up to Pete to take it or pull a deGrom.
8. we saw a screening with a talk from the director afterward. I would have thought of the show as journalism and it is but the director thought he was making a movie. Great scene where the lion eats the elephant while the DeBeers guy is going on about how diamond mining is good for Botswana
9. Cinematic documentary reveals hijinx in the diamond trade.
10. Yeah this was cute but not all that great.
11. In a stretch, Mark Ruffalo plays a tightly wound good guy.
12. A lawyer investigating a rural pollution problem encounters chemical corporate hijinx
13. I felt it was too long /takes shelter
14. Every time I see this thread this song starts playing. Clap along
15. Are you "for real"?
16. He also gives such lie to all the stuff my friend relayed about his son and implied that size matters too much than it obviously does in Jetts case at least. I think that means what i "missed" and should have probably said is that size only matters when they "weed out" they guys who are "iffy" to begin with.
17. So minor league jocksniffers are excited about Bryce's first season as a playing pro, even though the numbers show a few too many walks and hits. 11.7 K/9 and a fb at 102mph; but a 1.55 WHiP and 1-3, 4.73 for Brooklyn.Big dude with an impressive manspread and deep voice. http://metsminors.net/mmn-exclusive-from-tommy-john-to-102-mph-bryce-montes-de-ocas-comeback-with-the-mets-organization-is-inspiring/
18. Basically unhittable so far but hardly un-walkable. In 11.1 innings, 5 hits (4 singles and a double), 15 ks, 9 walks, 2 ER
19. Whatever became of Jefferson Escorcha? I don't know, I've lost him. Meantime I'll scoop up Bryce Montes de Oca, a gigantic young kid who made his pro debut the other night at Brooklyn. (1 IP, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 ER) Bryce is listed at 6-foot-7, 265 and is looked at something of a powerball ticket. Mets were the 3rd club to try and draft him at at times was ranked among the top 100 available guys. The Mets wound up with him in the 2018 draft out of Mizzou but in the 9th round, 260th picked overall, because he'd had injuries, including a high-school Tommy John and had still more recovering to do as he missed all of 18 and 19. Guys On The Internet say he has 2 swing and miss pitches, can reach 100mph and so could ascend rapidly as a closer especially if his control improves. OTOH the injuries and COVID setbacks means he hasn't pitched any pro innings in the 3 years since we drafted him so who knows? Looks big and mean but reportedly valedictorian of his Kansas high school and quotes scripture on Twitter. Montes de Oca literally means "mountains of goose." His father was born in Cuba and according to sloppy Internet research, manages a hotel.
20. Escorchation in Action.
21. First there was Jefferson ✈️... And then, Jefferson 🚀 ... And finally, there is Jefferson 🔥 ... Don't you need somebody to love? Do you believe in Miracles, baby? Then meet Jefferson Escorcha!, my 19-year-old lefty adoptee from Venezuela. Jefferson scorched the Appalachian League last season, going 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 15 releif appearances, punching out batters like Hell's Angels at Altamont. This after building a city on the broken bats of DSL hitters for 2 seasons. He's been sureallistically pillowing up near the end of some top prospect lists out there, noting his ability to induce weak-ass contact behind a sizzling curve that leaves hitters finding their way back to the bench.
