  1. It's a bit surprising that for the amount of time I was either in Boston proper, or the general New England area between 1992 and 1999, that I never made it inside that venerable ballpark. Now, a few decades after the Red Sox have captured a few World Titles and the area around Fenway was become a Wrigleyville like extravaganza, which is now complete with a small music hall venue in a former garage connected to the stadium on the corner of Lansdowne and Ipswich Street that opened last year. I'm finally getting to be inside of it on Saturday for the FOX afternoon game.
  2. =whippoorwill post_id=131638 time=1689354224 user_id=79] Didn't the Dodgers lose the WS and Donnie Moore shot himself? That's the saddest part
  3. =G-Fafif post_id=131486 time=1689164394 user_id=55] Kodai Senga is the 15th Met named to an NL All-Star team but never/not yet play in an ASG as a Met.
  4. Senga added due to Stro pitching tomorrow
  5. Lindor is starting to stake a claim for at least the best Metly years as a SS without being named to an All-Star team, yet.
  6. No Bally Sports on the DirecTV in the taproom!
  7. =Fman99 post_id=130875 time=1688580548 user_id=86] Ah the 9:40 PM EDT start, fuck you, spherical planet and time zones. Hopefully they jump out to an early lead and then I can go to bed.
  8. Beers at 15 a pop…might not care if things continue so far! 😑🤦🏻‍♂️
  9. Currently enjoying the aggressively warm Phoenix dry heat and gearing up for Tuesday's Mets-DBacks action
  10. Blessing in disguise really
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Marlins did something like the equivalent, going from 92 wins (and a championship) to 108 losses. Shedding a lot of talent was more the reason for that though. Including having the best catcher of his era for about two weeks!
  12. Tom Glavine is also listed in the pitching also rans, as well as “Bill” Wagner. deGrom also has the Nike swoosh on the uni, so I'm guessing last year to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the franchise. My guess is this is from a website/blog/social media group than a legit Met/MLB thing.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If I end up retiring to the Vegas area, which is quite possible, I'll go see the Mets play the A's when they come to town every other year. But I doubt I'd attend any other games and I'm not going to become an A's fan. There are people who switch their allegiances when they move to a new area. I have a childhood friend who grew up a Mets fan but then switched to the Marlins when he moved to Florida and then to the Braves when he moved to Georgia. I don't do that. My uncle has done that, grew up a Yankees fan in Queens (pre 1962, so Queens was a toss up between any of the 3 NY teams back then), then became a Sox fan in the 1970s when he moved to Acton, and now an Orioles fan as he's been in Ellicott City MD since the mid 1990s. I guess if you're just a casual fan you can keep your local ties and have it be OK. It seems alien to me personally. Jumping on the locals bandwagon seems more logical back in eras before the information super highway went mobile. Today it seems more like “well, we're you much of a fan to begin with?” when you consider all the free and paid mobile apps (and even nefarious ways of getting streams without paying for services) that can help you stay informed of your team's activities and games. I mean I didn't turn off my MLB app's notifications all weekend in Houston last weekend, and knew exactly how all three Mets-Rockies games were going, much to my chagrin!
  14. As of today, Mets in various other MLB teams' HOFs 2023 classes Shawon Dunston Cubs Danny Graves Reds Orel Hershisher Dodgers (Legends of Dodger Baseball Ring of Honor) Bob Friend Pirates Jose Oquendo Cardinals Jose Bautista Blue Jays (Level of Excellence) Honorable mention, a huge target for internet forum members and sports radio hosts and callers for the Mets to acquire as a free agent or via a trade, Manny Ramirez will enter the Guardians HOF.
  15. Because of the cheaper price, my cousin (lives near Jersey Shore, while I'm in Southern Westchester County NY) and I flew to and back from Houston this past weekend out of Philly. There was a guy in a Met cap on the plane coming home yesterday, and I'm like “you are going to the wrong city if you were planning to be at this week's series!”
  16. =metirish post_id=126423 time=1684930153 user_id=72] Following up on FK post I should add that yes the context here was James polling about Posey and Mauer ,and I guess it took off from there
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: And what other fanbase so regularly cites being 'The Captain' as if that's an 'accomplishment' which represents something worthy of consideration when evaluating a season or career? Sadly I think that line of thinking is informing Met fans into over-inflating the HOF cases of the deserved Keith Hernandez and the less than deserving, but he better not get the Alfonso treatment, David Wright. Also “leadership qualities” was part of the “package” for decades with fans of his when campaigning for Gil Hodges. Even if his managerial career would just be a sentence on his eventual plaque honoring his performance as a slugging 1Bman.
  18. =kcmets post_id=124988 time=1683732462 user_id=53] What is the forum history of the 'gigantic squid-like creature?' I can't remember.
  19. Mets and Phillies next year https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-london-series-mets-and-phillies-set-to-square-off-in-england-in-2024-per-report/amp/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-london-series-mets-and-phillies-set-to-square-off-in-england-in-2024-per-report/amp/
  20. Edgy MD wrote: Also, there is probably a non-zero case for Hall-of-Fame Jerry. Baseball-Ref has him with more pitching WAR than Whitey Ford or Waite Hoyt. The lack of run support he got was pretty brutal. Also, probably nobody with 200 wins should be considered completely out of the conversation. OE: I shouldn't use the word "also" so much. Also I have seen a cranky Met fan say in his point of view, Koosman was a far superior pitcher than Tom Glavine! Also, of course this was a Wilpon hating, most likely oblivious troll, whom has good points, but goes way over board on blaming Fred & Jeff for everything wrong with the franchise, and stadiums, since trading Mitchell for McReynolds. And also letting Knight walk
  21. This is a bit more exhaustive, and includes the insanity of Joe Robbie Stadium during the Marlins' time there, but this is a Google Maps list I did of 100 different sites, that I could find, for all 30 current teams. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kM3mwdasY3WMhQGT8?g_st=ihttps://maps.app.goo.gl/kM3mwdasY3WMhQGT8?g_st=i Eventually I'll try putting up defunct teams, in fact I think some defunct teams might even be on there (NL Cleveland Spiders and NL Baltimore Orioles), and I am working on other Major Leagues (NA, America Association, Federal League, the Negro Leagues that have been added to MLB's records, etc), but for now it's mostly the current 30 franchises (including franchise transfers (Pilots-Brewers, Expos-Nationals) and relocations.
  22. And it was known as SunCoast Dome, and even ThunderDome as it was the original home of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lighting. But it has retained the same name since the start of the Rays franchise.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Of course in the famous 9th inning of Game 7 it actually started to drizzle in Phoenix possibly contributing to Mariano's foot slipping as he tried for a force play at 2B on a bunt resulting in a poor throw and a start to the game/WS-winning rally. So the open-roof breaks wound up going both ways as a result. You failed to make a “Soft Rain” quip! BTW, I'm making plans to be in Phoenix when the Mets are. Checked out the prices for the pool area at Chase…let's just say, and I guess now that I think of it probably understandable from liability standpoints, but it's cheaper to get inside Citi Field's new Speakeasy Club, than it is getting in that pool area!
  24. Edgy MD wrote: =stevejrogers post_id=124157 time=1683115927 user_id=57] AFAI Can Recall Anyway, there has been only one FTX like controversy in MLB stadium naming history. I'm not sure what qualifies as a controversy. It's all pretty controversial from my perspective. The parade of sponsors that piled brand on brand on top of Joe Robbie Stadium was a debacle that had the Marlins playing in a stadium that had three different names in one season.
  25. Comerica does sound suspiciously like Kramer's “company” Kramerica on Seinfeld.
