    Only DET for Jack. I had forgotten before looking at his page that the 1991 season was the only one he spent in Minnesota.

    Randy Johnson is the only player to have 2000 strikeouts with 2 different franchises (SEA and ARZ). But he only had 383 with NYY. Charlie Hough has >500 with LAD and TEX but only 191 with FLA.

    Tanana has CAL and DET but only 388 Ks in TEX. (And only 104 in his sole Mets season).

    Crow-Armstrong was 19 years old when traded, didn’t play as an 18 year-old in 2020 (COVID) and had played only 6 games in 2021 (shoulder surgery). Obviously he had lots of potential as a first round pick but he was very much still a big unknown when traded. (Compare to: Scott Kazmir, who was major-league ready when traded).

    When the Mets were playing in Atlanta a week or so ago, Chris Sale recorded his 500th strikeout with the Braves, making him one of 10 pitchers to record at least 500 strikeouts with 3 different franchises (CHW, BOS, ATL). A fun statistical anomaly. Of those other 9 pitchers…2 pitchers have 500+ with each of 4 different franchises, and 7 have done it with 3 different franchises. Who are they?

    Yeah, sure, you trade anyone for the right price. Even Soto or McLean. That kind of misses the point though with Benge, which is: you don’t regularly have promising players with 5 years of team control available via trade. They’re not realistically going to get anything better/more valuable in a trade for him. So sure, you can be open to anything but it’s not really something that’s going to happen.

    It was supposed to be funny, which is why it was hyperbolic. We all know there are slower people. The point, of course, is when considering him as a potential bench option, the absence of speed (and need to be pinch-run for in critical situations) is a significant negative.

    If you think the .855 is sustainable. That’s this year, in 95 PAs. The career number against lefties is .779. Vientos is also the slowest man alive and would need to be removed for a pinch runner in any game critical situation. And he can’t be trusted to play effective defense anywhere. (Compare to: Baty, who can competently play at least 3 and maybe 5 positions).

    There might be a better thread for this but I am of the opinion that the supposed problems regarding “fit” or “chemistry” with Lindor is absolute and total bullshit. And, even assuming there is something there, it’s on the Mets to take the parties into a room, remind them they’re paid tens of millions of dollars each year and to figure it out and play nicely in the sandbox. Obviously Lindor’s been hurt this year but in 2025 neither he nor Soto was the problem (and the Mets still finished 6th in the league in offense). And Soto again isn’t the problem this year. Also the Mets have no meaningful replacement for Lindor in the foreseeable future. And trading the back half of aging player contracts is never a good bet, so to get some team to acquire him will probably require at least 2 of the following (1) the Mets eat money (2) the Mets throw in an additional valuable player (3) the Mets accept an underwhelming return or (4) the acquiring team employs Brodie Van Wegenen as general manger. In short, Lindor‘s not getting traded, nor should he.

    Maybe? But there’s no roster space for him on a competitive team. -We can all agree that Vientos is not good enough to not be one of the 9 regular starters. -No team ever carries fewer than the maximum number of pitchers, leaving only 4 bench spots. -One bench spot is a backup catcher. Another is almost certainly a backup outfielder, and a third is a backup infielder. Vientos can only charitably be called an infielder, and he certainly couldn’t ever be expected to play a middle infield spot. -So, does he really merit the last spot on the bench? I’m hard pressed to say the Mets can’t do better.

    The Mets are 8-7 in extra inning games this year, and have played 19 extra innings. They’ve scored the free runner 11 times. In 6 innings, they scored additional non-free runners. Nothing about that jumps out immediately as awful (although I don’t have handy the league average stats). Obviously the extra innings record is substantially better than the overall W/L record.

An event at the arena plus another stadium event still has sufficient space.
