  1. I also would’ve started him over Young but Stearns hasn’t returned my calls
  2. Lindor SS Soto LF Bichette 3B Robert CF Young 1B Vientos DH Semien 2B Benge RF Torrens C
  3. Myers is exciting to me because relievers who can go multiple innings are a very useful thing to have on the roster. Looked good his first two outings. Weaver also looked ok his first two outings but it’s very early.
  4. You are mixing two distinct issues there: pace of game (popular change) and earlier game times (club-dependent and not a universally popular change). Of course the pitch clock has been well-documented as an overwhelmingly positive change. Earlier game times, on the other hand, are not so popular and, more significantly, do not appear to move the needle on viewership. Indeed, the teams that have 7:00 PM local game times on weeknights are all in the very biggest markets: Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Astros, Rangers, Braves — these teams are all in located in the 10 largest metropolitan areas in North America. Rather, game times appear mostly to be set based on attendance concerns. Examples: the Red Sox and the Cubs start weeknight games earlier in April and September, and at normal times in the warmer months. And of course lots of clubs have earlier starts on M-Th nights but not Friday.
  5. Can’t sweep if you don’t win the first one. (and this is absolutely a series the Mets should sweep)
  6. He’s got a better OPS than Young against righties too.
  7. Lindor SS Soto RF Bichette 3B Polanco DH Baty RF Young 1B Semien 2B Benge CF Alvarez C —- Everyone raise your hand if you expected Jared Young (!) to get a start before Vientos or Tyrone Taylor.
  8. Nice weather the first two days in St. Louis but 80% chance of rain Wednesday is potentially problematic.
  9. The schedule of which games are NBC vs. which games are Peacock is below. It looks like they stacked the NBC schedule primarily based on matchups. I’m sure it‘ll come as little surprise that Yankees/Dodgers, Dodgers/Red Sox, Yankees/Phillies, etc. are all NBC games. https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/sunday-night-baseball-full-2026-schedule-for-mlb-games-on-nbc-peacock
  10. Exactly. You cannot send the runner there unless he can safely score standing.
  11. Williams and Raley were unavailable per the post-game press conference. If so, then Mendoza bungled the use of Brazoban and Manaea. As a separate issue, if neither of our two best relievers can’t pitch a second day after throwing 19 and 11 pitches the prior day, we’ve got some issues with Stearns here.
  12. It’ll because of stupid losses like this that Mendoza won’t be back next year: -Where is Devin Williams? The dude threw 19 pitches and he can’t go the next day? -What idiot sends Lindor home when he would be at third with none out?
  13. Lovelady can pitch on consecutive days but not Williams?
  14. Tie game in the 9th, yesterday Mendoza went with Williams but today Weaver. Curious.
  15. I think it’s much more because he’s an asshole. Between the DUI and the domestic violence, Ozuna is possibly the most dislikable MLB player in the game today.
  16. I thought it was reported that Manaea was being planned to do a piggyback start or two (likely with Senga).
  17. The story is generally true but a few key details are wrong there: -It was Section 122 (not 121). I know this because I was sitting right there and this happened a couple rows in front of me. -The key assistance was actually provided by an emergency medicine physician who by an amazing stroke of luck happened to be seated right on the aisle a couple rows up from the afflicted person. In fairness, when this was pointed out to Carton, he did re-tweet this additional info:
  18. This early in the season, it’s pretty easy: -In order of importance, we want the Phillies, Braves, and Dodgers to lose. -Everyone else in the NL is irrelevant until they prove otherwise. -I don’t even think about the Junior Circuit unless the Mets are playing one of their teams.
  19. Home opener yesterday drew 41,449. Short of a sellout and the smallest home opener crowd since 2013. Of course last year was a record but by way of comparison, 32 home dates last year had bigger crowds than yesterday.
  20. A lot depends on what “convenient” means. Having to make one connection — e.g., subway to subway, subway to commuter rail — seems fairly reasonable to call “convenient.” Example: all the Metro-North lines go right to Grand Central where the 7 runs frequently to the ballpark. That also seems to be a pretty convenient public transit option.
  21. The anthem is a trickier song to sing than sometimes one realizes. What happened today is literally the reason so many singers use teleprompters, even if you’re singing something for the millionth time. They started doing a different version of the stretch in the last year or two, with the organist playing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” instead of the rousing version they used to use. No surprise it’s lifeless and bad, as organ music at the ballpark sucks. Not everything that once was old is good. Sorry to hear about the box but hopefully it was free? Most of the Citi boxes typically do have two rows of seats in the front that are sufficiently exposed that you feel like you’re at the game. If you’re in the back, though? Agree that it’s not a fan experience.
  22. Great time at the game. Miscellaneous things not mentioned above: -Tyrone Taylor got a nice hand from the crowd…and is still wearing #15. -Nunez, Megill, and Garrett all present to be introduced. -Marcell Ozuna getting loudly booed during introductions and every time he came to the plate. Well done fans. -Robert could easily become a favorite if he can hit a little bit. Looks like he has some great baseball skills. Got a great read on Baty’s triple and nearly caught Polanco on the basepaths. -Benge got all the attention but Alvarez’s follow-up was absolutely pummeled and he was really enjoying his trip around the bases to celebrate. -Polanco looked fine at first, had a couple good plays, a hard grounder and a wide throw from Bichette.
  23. 1295 - Luis Garcia
  24. 100%, because it sucks. I’ll care less if he saves 50 games with an ERA+ of 250. Mine: -Mendoza does not get an extension until after the postseason ends. Media will talk about this incessantly even though it’s abundantly clear (as in 2015) that a playoff run will be necessary for the manager to keep his job. -Senga finishes in the top 10 of Cy Young balloting. -Mets win the season series against the Dodgers but go inexplicably go 1-5 against the White Sox and Sacramento. -Pete Alonso gets a curtain call in each of the 3 games Baltimore plays in September at Citi.
  25. Unless the opposing team changed pitchers after the first inning! Rule 5.11 (a)(2): The Designated Hitter named in the starting lineup must come to bat at least one time, unless the opposing Club changes pitchers. Rule 5.11 (a)(13): A substitute for the Designated Hitter need not be announced until it is the Designated Hitter’s turn to bat. My reading of these rules means that even if Polanco is in the lineup as the DH (but not in spots 1-3 in the lineup), AND the Wild Boar renders Polanco unavailable, AND the Wild Boar also results in Skenes leaving after an inning…then Vientos can come in as the DH, Polanco won’t have ever played in the game, and isn’t yet in the books as a Met.
