  1. I was being somewhat facetious. I of course know why Carl Pohlad (net worth of >$3B in 2009) didn’t want to spend the money for a retractable roof.
  2. It’s not just TV money, it’s also attendance. Move all the weeknight games to afternoon and people with jobs aren’t going to come. The first weeknight series of the year is usually the lowest-selling series but there’s still a lot of people being inconvenienced with a last-minute change (and no, refunds will not be offered). As for Minnesota, I’ve never been quite able to understand why they willingly went back to a fully-outdoor stadium.
  3. The White Sox and Guardians also moved up the start times of their games on Tuesday. Boston, Pittsburgh, and Washington have not (yet) done so. And, this is one of the odd weeks where the Yankees are also home at the same time as the Mets and haven’t made any change.
  4. Yeah, it was seeming too cumbersome with having to guess Jenkins or Marichal or Carlton for each of six different guys. Perry is correct: Agee, Kranepool, and Swoboda all got him. Two answers left: one for Piazza, one for Garrett.
  5. Mauricio is an odd choice since he’s not going to play over Bichette or Lindor, he’s probably not going to play over Semien, he doesn’t play first base, and DH is pretty clogged right now with Vientos too hot to sit and Polanco maybe not able to play the field much. Mauricio last played left field in 2023 (26 games in Syracuse).
  6. The Tuesday 4/7 and Wednesday 4/8 games have been both moved up to 4:10 starts because of expected cold temperatures. I can’t recall this ever happening before for April games.
  7. Good answers here. Piazza got Halladay in June 1999, Halladay’s rookie year. Kranepool’s final homer of his career was off Blyleven in September 1979, during Bert’s brief stint in the National League. 3 more total pitchers on the the board. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins 4. Bunning 5. Gibson 6. Blyleven Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Sutton Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Bunning Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Gibson 6. Sutton Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman 6. Halladay Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Koufax 6. Drysdale Incorrect: Pedro Martinez Sabathia Eckersely Sutter Seaver
  8. Those three are all correct. I’ve also added Gibson, Carlton, Sutton, and Bunning to the players who have them (since multiple guys got each pitcher). Takeaway: if a pitcher’s been guessed, he shows up here. But there are still a few tough answers out there. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins 4. Bunning 5. Gibson Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Sutton Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Bunning Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Gibson 6. Sutton Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Koufax 6. Drysdale Incorrect: Pedro Martinez Sabathia Eckersely Sutter
  9. It’s happened fairly frequently and there are lots of video clips out there but I can’t find one for a game involving the Mets.
  10. Yeah, I’ll admit I was ready for him to be DFAed on about 15 different occasions over the past year or so. In fairness, even Gary seemed pretty surprised at the arm on Young?
  11. No to Kranepool/Spahn.
  12. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal Incorrect: Piazza/Pedro Agee/Sutton Piazza/Sabathia Piazza/Eckersley Agee/Gibson Sutter/Kranepool I filled in Jenkins, Marichal, and Niekro for everyone since they're correct answers for everyone other than Piazza.
  13. Tommie has no homers against Gibson, in 1969 or otherwise.
  14. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton Incorrect: Piazza/Pedro Agee/Sutton
  15. Piazza/Hoffman is correct. Agee never homered off Don Sutton.
  16. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton Incorrect: Piazza/Pedro
  17. Sorry for the font issue. I typically am using an iOS mobile on dark mode (for which there are text edit options of bold/italic/underline but not font color). @Brock Beauchamp
  18. Assuming Soto’s out, I’d put Baty in left, Vientos at first, and Alvarez can DH.
  19. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson Agee (7) 1. Palmer Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine Swoboda (7) Piazza never got Pedro while playing for the Mets. He has 3 against Pedro as a Dodger and 3 against Pedro as a Padre.
  20. I wouldn’t expect a meaningful Soto update before pregame tomorrow
  21. Alvarez could’ve challenged the first walk and definitely should have challenged the second.
  22. No restriction moving that way. The restriction is standing on the outfield side of the base to prevent stealing signs/looking at the pitcher’s grip.
  23. It happens once to Lindor (a guy with a generally unimpeachable work ethic/leadership) and you go “ok, we’re all human.” Happens again, to another player, and you start wondering what’s wrong with the management of this team. Combined with the dumb coaching decisions, suboptimal bullpen usage, and other sloppiness in the field and one wonders about who should be managing this team.
